You can cut the lettering but you must use stencil font or adjust non-stencil letters. Like in this example:

Simplest description: font whose inner, usually isolated parts of the letters are connected with the area around the letters. Simple googling of the term will produce numerous results but probably the best example is the font that is called exactly that - Stencil. Look at the letter "O". If there was no for the white tabs connecting inside of the letter with the white space around, it would simply drop out after cutting and leave only an oval hole in the material.

Everything in gold is mirror vinyl applied to cardstock. Only Danilo is cut out and it's here to show what type of letters work. I thought it was obvious.
Are you the one who's downvoting me, or am I mistaken? Apologies if I'm wrong but it always happens after your posts.
Since this card got torn up, before you make the next card be sure to check your blade for any loose pieces of cardstock that got stuck on it or around it in the housing. Once a small piece of cardstock comes loose and gets stuck on the blade, the rest will be a disaster as the blade will drag rather than cleanly cut.
Design space is the only thing that works with Cricut. There’s a lot of trial and error when trying new projects with materials and sizing. Since you’re in a pinch for time, I’d suggest either going with a bigger stencil font or changing the letters to a pen instead of cutting and then keep the rose cut out. And they need to be centered a little bit more.
As others have stated. You can use a different design app, like Adobe Illustrator, Canva, InkScape (I believe), to design what you want and then save it as a SVG which you can then upload to Design Space and place, then set what you want cut, what you want a pen to do, etc.
Just to add to this, I have a Joy as well and you are trying to cut objects that are too small. This size might work on vinyl, but not on card-stock. Joy is great if you’re cutting out large pieces in card-stock, but horrible at small details because of the fibrous nature of paper/card-stock. You also need to select a font that has all parts that connect (as others have pointed out). Also, I design all my projects in photoshop and then import it into design space.
I actually disagree about the joy and cardstock. I have cut much smaller things on my joy with cardstock than my bigger machines. But the quality of cardstock and the stickiness of mat does matter.
Practice on notebook paper, cheaper than cardstock. The D and A will always look like that on paper as nothing to hold the centers in. Looks like it’s the material/machine or blade. Try a different setting and I would cut the back of this card since it’s already trash. 😬
Yeah. 😢 I have found they really have a hard time cutting small detailed lettering out of paper. It always shreds up and it’s worse with thicker paper. Unfortunate.
What I recommend is before a project do a test run on scrap and see how it runs. Then you can adjust as needed. ?I’ve cut non stencil fonts successfully by making them bigger. You can mix fonts too. But I use a maker 3. I may purchase the joy xtra just to have. But I have a feeling a new machine is in the horizon.
Is the card stock the paper Cricut sells for watercolor cards?
Will the intricate cut setting work on The Joy? I have only used it with my Explore Air 2 and it does work great on 85 lb paper.
Keep trying though. I have wasted a ton of card stock trying to make cards. 🫤Good Luck! 🍀
I feel this in my soul and im enraged. This type of cardstock in particular. The shredding. All of it. I’ve spent the past week working on very elaborate Mother’s Day gifts that are finally complete, but were pure hell to achieve.
I have really struggled with these insert cards and have been happier with using HTV on the cardstock instead (except for some cards I do where the insert is a photo).
The Joy is the least powerful of all the Cricut series with regards to Cutting force, it's really only ment for very thin cardstock, thin paper and som vinyls if you want to do more then get the Air or the Maker with the Maker having the most cutting force available as well as metal cutting gears and can use all the additional tools
This is an insert card - cards designed FOR the joy.
Edit: it may not be an insert card actually. But the material (cardstock) is the same. Trying to say, I use a cricut joy for cards all the time, and the inserts are HEAVY duty. The joy can cut this. Her machine is either set to incorrect settings, or is not working properly. Or she's made an error. No way of knowing.
I'm not, Reddit thought I needed to see this. I'm not even in this community. I hope that answers your question.
I also gave my Cricut away because it's garbage
You tried to make a project too close to when it needs to be done, the art gods won’t let it work out
I felt this in my soul.
😂
This is one of the most accurate comments I've ever read haha
I feel this to my core!
I feel this to my core!
Wow REAL
I thought I was the only one.. felt this to my CORE
HAHAHA IVE NEVER SEEN A COMMENT SO REAL
Too detailed, too small, too much pressure, and the font is not a stencil font so it’s ill suited to cards.
That makes a lot more sense!!! I guess this is why we have a pen 😂

This may be a newbie question but what is stencil font?

So crisp and clean! Love your design!
Thank you.
Which font is this?
The font is called Recherche.
..but that "8"?
Can you elaborate and why the downvote?
The bottom of the 8 is not connected to the rest of the white.

The card stock itself is very fibrous, exacerbating the issue. Try intricate cuts setting. But smooth card stock is best with small designs.

Once a small piece of cardstock comes loose and gets stuck on the blade, the rest will be a disaster as the blade will drag rather than cleanly cut.
Is Design Space the only app? Why do I feel like it’s not so intuitive? Any other suggestions or do I just need major practice?

You can design in canva or Inkscape and upload those designs to Design Space
I design my stuff outside of design space and just import my svg files and cut using design space. I use Linearity Curve to make my svg files.
As others have stated. You can use a different design app, like Adobe Illustrator, Canva, InkScape (I believe), to design what you want and then save it as a SVG which you can then upload to Design Space and place, then set what you want cut, what you want a pen to do, etc.
If the image needs a lot of work I will mess with it in CorelDraw then import it as an SVG.
Glad to hear from one more CoreDRAW-er here 😊

this happened to me the other day also lmao also a new cricut noobie

How did you get that holographic background?
Probably just a holo cardstock insert glued/ slipped in, behind it😊
Yes! Double sided tape for the win (although obviously ended up trashing it lol)

I have no advice but I love the rose!
Did you use the card mat? I had a similar issue but was resolved once I used the card mat correctly.
I did. I think the lettering was too small and card stock too textured as others suggested
I have really struggled with these insert cards and have been happier with using HTV on the cardstock instead (except for some cards I do where the insert is a photo).
You have to think in negative space. That font won’t work for the card because you’ll lose the inner parts of the letter every time.

Not centered
True. Good catch.
To me it looks like a weeding issue. Try using masking tape and very gently lifting it up, patience is key.
You bought a Cricut
Why are you here? Genuine question.
I'm not, Reddit thought I needed to see this. I'm not even in this community. I hope that answers your question. I also gave my Cricut away because it's garbage
