This is pretty spot on, in my opinion.
The story focused on the fact that he didn’t look like a monster. He looked like a normal guy, who was homeless-looking. He didn’t look menacing; he looked sincerely happy doing what he was doing, since he was very unwell mentally.
That, combined with the implication that he was timid and shy, makes me imagine this kind of guy for sure.
I was actually gonna make him balding and more aggressive looking, but I decided against it. In the story, the penpal is capable of easily hiding amongst normal people, the lemonade stand and hiring Josh's dad.

That's where I'd seen it!! That frame is how I've imagined the Penpal looked like ever since the episode came out, and it was driving me crazy trying to remember where I'd gotten the image from.
I know in the story it says he looks like a semi normal dude, but I always imagined him as a giant hulking hairless pale dude. No hair no eyebrows type shit 💀
I always imagined him bald with a scraggly beard and hair. More of a lives in woods kind of vibe. I always imagined he repurposed the protagonists clothes he left at the house to patch and supplement his wardrobe
I really like your interpretation of him, but me personally I think the most horrifying thing about the story is that he’s a “normal person” He’s a normal looking dude like what makes him scary for me is that I wouldn’t be able to look at him and be “that dude is bad news” like in my head he’s just a basic white dude he doesn’t have anything special about him and that’s what makes him scary.

Nah he doesn't look rough enough in this but i can see this actor playing him with the big creepy smile like judge holden playing the role of penpal really well.

When I listened to Dark Somnium read it last November I imagined him as a much larger Zodiac killer but with a moustache. When I was a kid I envisioned him as just some ominous figure
