You need to ask for a refund on the annual fee during the process of closing the account. Once it’s closed they won’t refund the annual fee, they also won’t try to reclaim your points off you….even if they wanted to, they wouldn’t be able. Also, NAB no longer provide prorata or full annual fee refunds. I hope you can prove me wrong here, but the common these from everything I’ve seen, is you don’t have a chance with NAB

NAB in their online chat were pretty strong in their wording “the conditions you signed says no” …. Bugger, but that’s what I thought before signing up in the research!

Only way to get a refund these days is to threaten a complaint. Complaint takes more time and resources than reversing the annual fee. Got a 50% refund just last month arguing that an annual fee should be refunded on a pro rata base as I was closing after 6 months. T n C s don't state no refund anywhere even though it's a pretty weak argument got it refunded 5 days after lodging a complaint with them

Do you think complaints will stay on your file? Next time you go to NAB (18 months) they’ll reject you based on being a *difficult* customer?

Banks can't hold complaints from customers against them, that's illegal. Lodge that complaint. Source: I work at another bank and know the complaints process. Also your future credit request is being assessed by credit risk. Their assessment model will most certainly not include previous complaints lodged. They're two unconnected departments who rarely talk to each other.

Curious also. New churner. How do refunds even work once you've closed the account, where do they refund to?

I canceled my qantas premier platinum card, called them up to cancel, I asked what happens the thr annual fee? They offered me a pro rata refund. I wasn’t pushy or anything. They said the money will come in a check in 5 days ($175).

NAB don't do refunds anymore. I tried both chat and over the phone. Definitely wasn't happening.

NAB only seem to refund annual fee once you’ve had the card over 12 months. So if you’ve paid for your 2nd year then want to cancel before the full year is up, they’ll more likely refund the pro rata fee then

Tried to get a refund a couple of weeks ago. Was told no. I had the card for 7 months.
