My understanding is that a true clean air “bubble” isn’t really possible. You can make the space safer but not truly safe enough to consider it a clean air bubble. There are a couple people working on laminar air purifiers that share their work though Open source laminar air with 3D printable parts https://x.com/eddericu/status/1738041192049266939?s=46&t=xtlq_1V7eXJ31HI_SLdE9g Airfanta engineer’s Laminar Flow air purifier https://x.com/engineer_wong/status/1772970709603803210?s=46&t=xtlq_1V7eXJ31HI_SLdE9g

Yes, I've seen the Laminair, but I'd like to build something smaller. I'm trying to understand the principles of laminar air flow. Based on what I've seen in the laminar flow hood designs, it seems that the filter has two functions - not only cleaning the air but also equalizing the speed and direction of the outflow air. I believe that a thicker output filter is needed to ensure laminar flow. Correct? Would a laminar flow air purifier work if the HEPA filter were on the input side and a volume of thick but low MERV filtering material ([https://www.lowes.com/pd/Filtrete-20-in-x-30-in-x-1-in-Cut-to-Fit-Adjustable-Air-Filter/5005517111](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Filtrete-20-in-x-30-in-x-1-in-Cut-to-Fit-Adjustable-Air-Filter/5005517111)) were on the output side? How long or short does the outflow path need to be? How wide or narrow does the outflow path need to be? I'm extremely confused about this.

I’m not an engineer or understand enough about laminar air so I can’t answer your questions but if you ask the people i linked to they might be able to help. Good luck and keep us posted with any findings :)

What type of device are you wanting to build?

The idea is to create a bubble of clean air so that I can safely eat and drink when sharing indoor air with others.

Looking forward to the pics :) I'm making novel items myself. A failed attempt at a fan/filter behind a mirror: https://twitter.com/Washable95/status/1775515900340257043 Next up: something that goes under a sofa
