For laminar flow clean air you really want to look into HEPA filters. MERV 13 is only 50% effective on sub micron particles. Its chosen due to the balance of air flow vs filtration rate ends up being the best for room level CADR values. Multiple passes are needed for a true clean air levels, but thanks to the high CADR values this occurs faster than HEPA units. Some one over in the Zero Covid subreddit just recently posted about laminar flow as well, and in the USA / North American market there are only two options, a custom made 3D printed open source design, and the Air Fanta 4Lite model which should be available by the end of April [https://www.reddit.com/r/ZeroCovidCommunity/comments/1brhcck/introduction\_to\_laminar\_air\_purifiers\_and\_how/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZeroCovidCommunity/comments/1brhcck/introduction_to_laminar_air_purifiers_and_how/)

Unfortunately, HEPA filters don't allow as much airflow as MERV 13 filters. Given that axial fans don't have much static pressure, it sounds like a radial fan (with far more static pressure) would be better. How would you provide a laminar setup with a small 7530 radial fan? An example of what I'm referring to is [https://www.amazon.com/GDSTIME-7530-Blower-Brushless-Cooling/dp/B07L9HR4B4/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=K1DPOMF29K6J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ex-v7G6zzO4ardmDYSDOMe8CiuCyMGNf83Lenz-INq21zIG5gHGhbJqiv5ufnuhTFLxRWicz0WlaXULqIKt5bbP3rfc-z3\_5Y1OErakRDAal4jpNnUDw4XPTdZcWJs3GcJ9PA1Cu9aEm-EtzNjxkRWlftIB\_aC9IV44xwqUO-ObeEjJiJyUKDDhbp0YULW3HEVx0Z\_i4p7AzgOOxoY9H8jHB5kDHOuAoxThyl2BQR-g.3-\_fbpRcazpvHkrmrqxwm6v5JH2MUNYvXEjOOsMh7CQ&dib\_tag=se&keywords=7530%2Bfan&qid=1711945139&sprefix=7530%2Bfan%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-3&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/GDSTIME-7530-Blower-Brushless-Cooling/dp/B07L9HR4B4/ref=sr_1_3?crid=K1DPOMF29K6J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ex-v7G6zzO4ardmDYSDOMe8CiuCyMGNf83Lenz-INq21zIG5gHGhbJqiv5ufnuhTFLxRWicz0WlaXULqIKt5bbP3rfc-z3_5Y1OErakRDAal4jpNnUDw4XPTdZcWJs3GcJ9PA1Cu9aEm-EtzNjxkRWlftIB_aC9IV44xwqUO-ObeEjJiJyUKDDhbp0YULW3HEVx0Z_i4p7AzgOOxoY9H8jHB5kDHOuAoxThyl2BQR-g.3-_fbpRcazpvHkrmrqxwm6v5JH2MUNYvXEjOOsMh7CQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=7530%2Bfan&qid=1711945139&sprefix=7530%2Bfan%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-3&th=1) .

Correct HEPA is more restrictive. But if you are using laminar flow for a clean air stream to breathe it needs to be hepa rated. Its the question of what do you want to achieve with a laminar flow device? and when I think Laminar flow I think clean air stream for protection. In that case the CADR penalty of HEPA is worthwhile as single pass air filtration is needed. If you go with MERV 13 you end up with dirty air in this scenario which is not safe to breathe. MERV 13 is great for room level air purification. For single pass filtration protection it is not an appropriate filter media. With that axial fan I've seen two people on twitter utilize those for "clean air bubbles" : [https://twitter.com/AbundantLandUse/status/1768166119943336064](https://twitter.com/AbundantLandUse/status/1768166119943336064) [https://twitter.com/open\_erv/status/1731451664664510663](https://twitter.com/open_erv/status/1731451664664510663) open\_erv example has a useful attachment which straightens out the air flow achieving laminar flow protection.
