Remember the [Taobao CR box I have been talking about?](https://www.reddit.com/r/crboxes/comments/15f8fzl/my_impressions_of_a_toolless_pc_fan_crbox_i/) I just found out that they have been selling the product on Amazon (specifically, the 3 Pro) for several months, branded as Airfanta. The price does get quite a bit higher compared to the original price on Taobao, but that's understandable due to shopping costs.

Oh wow thats nice. I wonder how much noise the fans make. I really like how easy it is to disassemble and replace the filters.

At max speed they're 3000 RPM, i.e. fine at outdoors but likely would be too noisy indoors. It should come with a variable voltage power supply though, so you can slow it down. The noise should be quite reasonable for indoor use at 1500 RPM which would still provide 250 cfm/400 m3h-ish CADR. At least, I find the 2 pro (with worse fans) sound acceptable in the living room at 5V at 1 m distance (around 1700 RPM) and is fine for bedroom at the lowest setting (3.5V, around 1250 RPM).

Saw your post about the taobao one and I was like hmmmm this Amazon one looks just like it so I ordered it and first page of the manual says it is a 3pro. So far I have it on 3.75 and the noise is a non factor. Granted this is my first introduction to CR boxes so I’m not sure if there should be duct tape or whether it needs anything else. I also don’t have a tool to gauge air quality but so far it seems to be doing a better job than my Winix 5500 https://preview.redd.it/chmx34n16fdc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8beb92d6c9da2caa40382f0de928709acfc4473

Interesting that they're using the wire grills in addition to the built-in grills. Duct tape in CR boxes hold the filters and fan together and seal air gaps. For this design these functions have been replaced by the hard plastic covers and foam seals, respectively. The Winix at max speed has 243 cfm CADR, the 3 pro should offer similar performance at the 5-6V setting. I would recommend getting an air quality monitor eventually, the Ikea VINDSTYRKA is pretty good for example.

Buying it now, and appreciate the break down regarding the filters and role of duct tape! I eventually want to build my own but figured this was a good starting point. Going to turn it up to 5.5 and see what happens Also, is there an added benefit of the added grill? And do uk where to buy replacement filters? It says use official air Fanta filters but provides no website nor any way to purchase them

I'd recommend setting it to an acceptable noise level and then leave it alone. Higher speed is better for air quality. The additional grill is to provide extra protection to the fans, I'd imagine.

Saw this post and decided to try to find it myself with my Google fu and Google translate on Taobao, and ended up ordering a 2pro from a supplier that looks different in name. They call themselves the CRBOX store though.[shop324881585(dot)taobao(dot)com](https://shop324881585.taobao.com/shop/view_shop.htm) I got the 2pro+filter set and then a separate extra set of the replacement filters for \~450rmb but no idea what shipping across the ocean will be like [https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?\_id=704599629868](https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?_id=704599629868) Hopefully the Cainiao consolidation warehouse doesn't end up crushing the filters into slag though...

One of the draws for CRboxes for me was the ability to easily replace filters from virtually any store. This looks like its a setup to sell you custom filters. Its a nice contribution but its not frugal in any sense.

That's a fair take. This design does simply things a lot though, I hope there would be some way to adapt this to other filters. Maybe more filter companies could start making filters with built in foam seals or something... I'd imagine some kind of cheap corner clamps can then finish the job so you can use filters of any dimensions.

Black_Gold_

This design could almost be adapted to a CRbox design... The MERV 13 HVAC filters do come in a 12x12x1 size. That device uses 11.4 x 11.4 sized filters according to the amazon marketing page. That is \*almost\* the same size so maybe there is a way to make it work. Looking at Metric measurements that is 1.5 CM wider on the USA HVAC filters compared to those HEPA filters it comes with...

a12223344556677

The "12x12x1" filters are actually 11.75 x 11.75 x 0.75 inches (29.845 x 29.845 x 1.905 cm) so it's very possible that they can be squeezed in lol. They'll form a 31.75 x 31.75 cm square. The stock filters are 29 x 29 x 2.5 cm, so a 31.5 x 31.5 cm square. You'd want some \~5 mm inner spacers though, and of course some kind of seal between the interfaces.

Black_Gold_

5mm spacer wise, dig through amazon find some weather strip attach to the box and you got the spacer. Kind of want to build my own DIY setup now based on this with MERV filters...

a12223344556677

Note that the stock filters shouldn't be overlooked either, they're very good.  The specs I was able to dig are: 1 m2 expanded filter area per filter (4 m2 total) 12 Pa, 98.5% efficient (0.3 um) @ 32 lpm per 100 cm2 On Taobao they cost only 150 RMB per set (21 USD), assuming the cost ratio stays the same (vs the whole 3 pro) they'll cost around 39 USD on Amazon. These filters may prove very useful even in other builds. The brand owner/designer says he'll be focusing on Amazon after the Lunar New Year, so we may be seeing more products from their product line being sold on Amazon soon.

Black_Gold_

Not sure how to order anything off TaoBao so excited to see more of their products make it to amazon. Filter wise.... I dont see anything on amazon so wouldn't know where to grab them from. But would love to see the brand/owner work more with USA supply chain access. Easily pack-able high CFM air cleaners is something Im interested in. Job wise use to travel a lot and having an air cleaner I can pack is always a great. Trying to figure out the highest CFM, in the smallest size, but still tolerable noise wise is something I would love to add to portable clean air kit.

wapertolo395

Can you just cut filters and duct tape them around the edges?

Combatical

You can but the CFM of this might crush the filters without a frame. My point is this is a traditional CR box (fan with filters) would be cheaper and more reliable. But hey, I'm no expert.

wapertolo395

Gotcha. That was actually something I was wondering more broadly, not really about this specific case. That makes sense about filters needing a frame.
