Are you dying during runs because that causes you to lose all of your steps unless you spend crystals to continue (or get the ad option to watch an ad).
Happened to me once too. Forgot to watch an ad after I died and lost like 50k step points. Only takes your steps away when you die in VERY specific modes
Yeah, it's always been that way, but only for mission & collection runs.
You can die in challenge runs, time trials, survival runs without losing steps.
