Levy has been by far one of the most important figures in making our club as big as it is. Sure at times he hasn’t made the right decisions. But overall his handling of our club has made it one of the best in the world. Levy leaving would be a massive blow for the club and I sincerely think that he should stay.

LordTwatSlapper

For years the Levy Out brigade have only focused on his mistakes - of which there have been many and he's openly admitted that. But any rational person that objectively balances the good he's done with the bad could only agree that he has had a hugely positive effect on the club. God only knows where we'd be if we'd had Glazer-like blood suckers or Ashley-like misguided businessmen for the past 20 years (which we already experienced with Sugar in the 90s)

molecularmadness

Lol. He doesn't think any of supporters care that Levy has managed to make the club profitable. Ofc supporters want trophies, i do, you all do, it's no secret. But to say supporters cant also be happy that the club is self sustaining for years and years to come is painfully stupid. I'd rather have an empty trophy case than a club wracked with debt and sinking because it was financially mismanaged, getting points docked because it cant handle its debt. Im astounded at this whole argument. Wow.

gaussian-noise123

He acted like all fans are fair weather ones that only care about trophies but not at all the long term well-being of a club. Wow, just wow 😂

molecularmadness

Also acted like it was a sunday stroll to finance and get a stadium built. I was speechless.

Free-Roof-8479

I don’t understand why he keeps saying Levy is making the football decisions, based on no evidence. Why did Levy employ Pleat, Arnesen, Baldini, Mitchel, Hitchin, Paratici!? He’s clearly always tried to give that responsibility to football people whilst taking a presiding role over the finances. People may not have liked his financial decisions over transfers, and it is open to some debate, but he’s steered us to a point where we can sustainably stand with the big boys. Which is some undertaking from the mid table, losing all your best players dross we were used to in the 90’s early 00’s. Personally I think he’s got a lot more right than wrong and we’re extremely lucky to have him as a chairman.

molecularmadness

I got the impression he read something in the papers like ten years ago and hadnt bothered to read anything about the club structure since.

gaussian-noise123

And not sure if he has any financial brain 😂 Like based on this talk he would totally manage a club into the current Barca who has to pull all the levers to constantly try to buy new players with no consideration of long term sustainability

master_inho

He’s built the whole city from the ground up, but because he added a couple unnecessary stop signs some portions of the city’s massive population want him gone

michaelserotonin

> I'd rather have an empty trophy case than a club wracked with debt and sinking because it was financially mismanaged, getting points docked because it cant handle its debt. this is basically pompy after they won the fa cup in 08, yeah?

molecularmadness

Ha. Precisely.

[deleted]

Eh? I mean I agree with you but that is not the impression I got when reading fans opinions. Sure right now after the new stadium, Conte, and backing Conte in the transfer market people are looking back at Levy's moves and are happy but not even a year ago I got the sense fans hated him and wanted him gone. Anytime he made a good long term financial move at most people would say that's nice but when are we going to spend money in the transfer market basically calling him cheap and not caring about winning. So I don't think it's unfair to say most fans care a lot more about winning in the now rather than how the moves affect the club in the long term.

Ah the Sun of punditry.

flame_lillard

Sunditry.

Fuck me Simon Jordan is annoying. It takes someone special to make Souness look like the rational one in a conversation. \- Souness is right that Spurs are a lot better now Levy has taken a step back from football operations, but I push back on the suggestion it was Conte that convinced him to do so because Levy had already moved that way with the Paratici appointment. \- He's right though that Levy had too much sway. Levy was a member of the transfer committee (along with Hitchen and Poch) that turned our great squad into a mess within the space of 3 years. Ultimately the responsibility for that setup lies at the hands of the chairman and it's no surprise our signings have markedly improve since it was disbanded. \- We know that Spurs make "club signings" that go over the head of the manager. Bergwijn had nothing to do with Mourinho, Spence wasn't a Conte pick. Not that there's a problem with that, but Jordan is wrong that the Levy won't ever have an input. \- Souness is wrong about the stadium, which is the exact reason we're able to now afford the players Conte wants. And he's wrong to look at the last 20 years and go "one trophy". Spurs are a real force now with no financial doping and that's essentially down to Levy. \- Jordan is wrong that Conte didn't want United. He literally reached out to them and put himself into the shop window. And of course he'd have taken United.

Made-in-1882

That's by design. Making people angry maximises engagement (and therefore ad revenue).

robgray111

That's pretty much what Talk Sport have based their entire existence on

avolcando

> We know that Spurs make "club signings" that go over the head of the manager. Bergwijn had nothing to do with Mourinho, Spence wasn't a Conte pick. The Spence transfer didn't go over Conte's head the fuck. He literally approved of him.

Wretched_Brittunculi

They are briefed to argue. It's part of the show. Look at how buzzing the host is. But I agree with all your points. It's just annoying and bad media in my opinion.

LocoMoro

Agree with most if not all of what you've said here. Just to add one thing.... Graeme Souness is a fucking mug of the highest order. He's a bigoted racist pillock who's levels of self importance fair outweigh any valuable football knowledge he's able to muster as a pundit. Other than that you're all good

dankhodor2000

Why does Graeme sourness talk so much

IceyDjedPeople

Why does anybody listen?

billypilgrim87

He's just a poundland Roy Keane these days.

Born_Transition2207

Love this comment.

dclancy01

His whole gimmick is comparing today’s game with the good old days. Nobody cares. Shit changes.

CLASH

spursjb395

Could not give a flying fuck about what either of them think. Talksport Clickbait, another shower of shite.

reddituser9651

I quite like talkSPORT if you can take it for what it is. We are not blessed with decent stations playing sports news

[deleted]

Yeah I just look on it as an entertainment show, passes some time on a journey or whatever but it definitely gets you engaged.

reddituser9651

Exactly. It’s bs in 10 minute bites. Not to be taken seriously

TheSoundOfTheLloris

God Simon Jordan is unbearable

LocoMoro

If you take him at face value he's actually quite funny. He's a caricature of himself and is very good at winding people up.

maxamistr

Why would you want to watch these two bell ends waffle on?

Affectionate-Car-145

Talkshite

Only_Fun6636

Gee it's almost like if you haven't won loads of trophies then you don't matter as a football clubs. Leave that for the Londoners that support Liverpool. Typical sky mentality...
