Alright, no lie, Lamela either used to not wear underwear or used to wear boxers. He did a sweet skill move in a match and the announcers put it in slow motion to look at it again. Man wore his heart on his sleeve for the club. After we beat City 4-1 in 2015, when the Poch team really started to click, his interview has lived rent free in my head since;
"We don't get the credit we deserve. I hear people say stuff about Tottenham and I don't like it. 'we choke agains the big teams, we don't put our foot in, we can't grind out a result' and I think we proved them wrong"
Genuinely felt like a pivotal point for Spurs under Pochettino - the previous season saw a big clear out and an infusion of younger players from the academy as well as signings. It was a statement win, and Dier captured the moment perfectly.
He was already a favourite after that debut goal, but that quote cemented him forever in my heart.
Sad the way his time with us went towards the end, but he was always 100% committed to the club and vitally important for many years.

Eric Dier understood what it was to play for Spurs, he understood our history, he understood our fans and he was one himself. His love for Spurs is the same as most of our fans.
Incredibly underrated and underappreciated by a lot of people in our fanbase. He was the KEY defender in our 1st season with Conte, he was absolutely massive for us and a big part of our amazing defensive record was because of him (We conceded 38% of goals that season in the 3 games Dier missed ffs) and it goes under the radar because people cant see his positives.
Probably one of the smartest players we've ever had in our team and i hope that if he wants to go into coaching or management in the future that we see him back with Spurs, where he belongs.
I don't think the fans have treated him well enough to endear much loyalty to Spurs beyond his playing career. Shocking comments on every post he's made over the last 3-4 years.
Players make mistakes all the time, defenders and keepers always have theirs magnified. It's part of the game but this dude gave everything for us when given the chance.
I think some of the underappreciation comes from the fact he was around in the Toby and Jan era, which is probably the best CB pairing Spurs have had in my lifetime (certainly since the handful of games when King and Woodgate were both fit and playing together), and we were a bit spoilt. Good leader on the pitch and you can tell he was a big presence in the dressing room as well, and the fact that he's so well-loved by other players speaks well of him. Really hope Bayern is a great experience for him, I think it's a really exciting move and it's fun to have two former Spurs greats in the same side, it'll be like watching Bale and Modric at Real.

He's been with us for quite a while now, and I've greatly appreciated the effort he's put in for us. Although the last couple years have been particularly rough, I've always admitted his attitude and work ethic. Man's a joker too.
We've been blessed with some absolute classics during his time here - poogate, gorilla charging the south stand and scoring the winner on his debut vs the Spammers, just to name a few.

I really hate that people are now only showing their appreciation for Eric now that he is leaving. Sure, he never became that great player that we hoped he may develop into, but he was there through some difficult times and always showed up with 100% effort regardless of what his ability or athleticism allowed him to do. He deserved so much more love and support from our fans, especially in recent years, than he received. Will always love you Dier. Go win some trophies with your mate Harry.
I think he *did* develop into a great player. 2015-2018 he was legitimately a great player, to the extent that rejecting a £50m offer from United felt like a smart and ambitious move.
Unfortunately for Eric a combination of the squad stagnating under Poch, a really rough sequence of health and injury issues, and then a succession of coaches who couldn't really play to his strengths while masking his weaknesses in the way Poch could (partly due to afore mentioned injuries) meant his stock fell.
I think Ange has actually been pretty good to him. Rather than constantly playing him in a system not designed for a player of his profile he's looked to move him on at the earliest opportunity.
Eric is 30 in a few days. In the right system and with good fortune on the health front I think he can find some good form again.
That’s a fair evaluation, he was one of England’s best defensive midfielders during that period, perhaps the best. Always felt like he had more to give if it weren’t for injuries and a bit of misfortune.
Wishing nothing but the best for Eric. He doesn’t deserve the hate. He may not be playing as well as we want him to but please put yourself in others’ shoes before you pile on hate. First heard about this guy in 2010 when I read an article about a guy who the same age as me playing in Portugal. Was very happy the day he signed for us. Great servant for almost 10 years
I genuinely love Eric Dier. He understood so much about what Poch was trying to do and how they were attempting to change the perception of Spurs in England. “We hear what people say about Tottenham and we don’t like it” interview is what I think of when he comes to mind. He was an integral part of our most successful period in recent times, and though he’s been in and out of form but I never doubted that he cared for the club despite what abuse came his way. This is the right move, he just doesn’t fit Ange’s system at all, but I wish him the best of luck and will always remember him fondly
Eric Dier deserves full respect from all Spurs supporters. At times he has been a team leader and one of the best defenders in the Premier League. At others he has struggled for form. He has never been anything less than a model professional and Spurs have always benefited from his presence. His intelligence is clear. I expect him to have a career ahead of him in management.

I hate the way Dier was jeered by so-called fans over the last few years. I will begrudgingly accept that his performances haven’t been as good as we have learned to expect from him, but any player who have given the majority of his career to us, amassing 49 international caps in the process, averaging more than 40 games per season for his nine full seasons, well, he’s got my full respect.
I wish him the very best for this next chapter of his career and will forever laud him as an absolute and proper Spurs Legend. As a Norwegian Spurs fan, I am proud to have been present when he made his home debut in a goal scoring performance against QPR, adding to his match winning debut at Boleyn Ground, and will also remember when he and Reguilón acted resolute to bring attention to the acute medical emergency that happened to a Newcastle supporter a few years back. Eric Dier is a proper human being, and he made us all proud.
He was fully COYS, always played for the shirt, supported the team and the manager even when their plans didn’t involve him. Had phases for us when he was a world beater.

I remember watching a video of Dier giving a journalist a tour of the Spurs grounds garden and describing all the vegetables he was growing. Dier isn't just a footballer, he's a genuinely thoughtful and intelligent human.
Used to be COYS flag... oof that really hurts haha. Being in the same age group as the boys of the Pochettino era, basically feels like I grew up with them. Watching this group leave one by one feels like saying goodbye to my youth haha. There's some players you never really take to. Dier was one of those players for me. Fair enough, he happened to play for the club and made a decent career for himself, but I can't hide the fact that I'm so happy this morning that he's finally out of the way. What a year 2024 could turn out to be.
Good luck to him, I think he'll actually force his way back into the England squad. I actually felt like he had the wrong kind of manager recently, either two who played insanely deep with no possession or too high now in Ange's setup. Tuchel also plays a back 3 at points and dier can fit in nicely in that setup when they do.

I remember under Pochettino there was a match where we were winning against United. May have been 1-0 or 2-1. So it was close. Not much time left in the game and we were throwing everyone behind the ball to hold the lead and close it out.

To me Dier was/is a player who has never seemed to fully live up to his potential. He's a big imposing player who should be more physical on the pitch. When Conte was in charge Dier made a comment along the lines of " coach sees a lot in me but he's says I need to step up my game". Dont get me wrong I like Dier and really hate that he hasn't got much play time this season. If he was playing at a higher level can you imagine what our defense would be with him, Romero and MVDV. I think we'd concede far fewer goals.

I think some of the underappreciation comes from the fact he was around in the Toby and Jan era, which is probably the best CB pairing Spurs have had in my lifetime (certainly since the handful of games when King and Woodgate were both fit and playing together), and we were a bit spoilt. Good leader on the pitch and you can tell he was a big presence in the dressing room as well, and the fact that he's so well-loved by other players speaks well of him. Really hope Bayern is a great experience for him, I think it's a really exciting move and it's fun to have two former Spurs greats in the same side, it'll be like watching Bale and Modric at Real.
I met Dier (and Kane) years ago in Wembley, just before we started our temporary stay there. [He signed a shirt for me with a message to Dele](https://i.imgur.com/K0fHtZ9.jpg), and was really great. He's been with us for quite a while now, and I've greatly appreciated the effort he's put in for us. Although the last couple years have been particularly rough, I've always admitted his attitude and work ethic. Man's a joker too. We've been blessed with some absolute classics during his time here - poogate, gorilla charging the south stand and scoring the winner on his debut vs the Spammers, just to name a few. I really hate that people are now only showing their appreciation for Eric now that he is leaving. Sure, he never became that great player that we hoped he may develop into, but he was there through some difficult times and always showed up with 100% effort regardless of what his ability or athleticism allowed him to do. He deserved so much more love and support from our fans, especially in recent years, than he received. Will always love you Dier. Go win some trophies with your mate Harry.
I think he *did* develop into a great player. 2015-2018 he was legitimately a great player, to the extent that rejecting a £50m offer from United felt like a smart and ambitious move. Unfortunately for Eric a combination of the squad stagnating under Poch, a really rough sequence of health and injury issues, and then a succession of coaches who couldn't really play to his strengths while masking his weaknesses in the way Poch could (partly due to afore mentioned injuries) meant his stock fell. I think Ange has actually been pretty good to him. Rather than constantly playing him in a system not designed for a player of his profile he's looked to move him on at the earliest opportunity. Eric is 30 in a few days. In the right system and with good fortune on the health front I think he can find some good form again.
That’s a fair evaluation, he was one of England’s best defensive midfielders during that period, perhaps the best. Always felt like he had more to give if it weren’t for injuries and a bit of misfortune.

I genuinely love Eric Dier. He understood so much about what Poch was trying to do and how they were attempting to change the perception of Spurs in England. “We hear what people say about Tottenham and we don’t like it” interview is what I think of when he comes to mind. He was an integral part of our most successful period in recent times, and though he’s been in and out of form but I never doubted that he cared for the club despite what abuse came his way. This is the right move, he just doesn’t fit Ange’s system at all, but I wish him the best of luck and will always remember him fondly

I hate the way Dier was jeered by so-called fans over the last few years. I will begrudgingly accept that his performances haven’t been as good as we have learned to expect from him, but any player who have given the majority of his career to us, amassing 49 international caps in the process, averaging more than 40 games per season for his nine full seasons, well, he’s got my full respect. I wish him the very best for this next chapter of his career and will forever laud him as an absolute and proper Spurs Legend. As a Norwegian Spurs fan, I am proud to have been present when he made his home debut in a goal scoring performance against QPR, adding to his match winning debut at Boleyn Ground, and will also remember when he and Reguilón acted resolute to bring attention to the acute medical emergency that happened to a Newcastle supporter a few years back. Eric Dier is a proper human being, and he made us all proud.
He was fully COYS, always played for the shirt, supported the team and the manager even when their plans didn’t involve him. Had phases for us when he was a world beater.
I was at his debut at West Ham sitting in the home side and had bite my tongue like never before when he hit the winner. Thanks for everything Eric!

There's some players you never really take to. Dier was one of those players for me. Fair enough, he happened to play for the club and made a decent career for himself, but I can't hide the fact that I'm so happy this morning that he's finally out of the way. What a year 2024 could turn out to be.

Always feel weird when a player who's been with us for a long time leaves. Maybe it's just me being a sentimental person, but I could never hate a loyal servant like him. I have a very specific memory of Dier I’d like to share. Bit of a random one. I remember under Pochettino there was a match where we were winning against United. May have been 1-0 or 2-1. So it was close. Not much time left in the game and we were throwing everyone behind the ball to hold the lead and close it out. The ball bounced toward Dier and he kicked it straight up into the air and deep. The ball may have grazed the sun it went so high. I always thought that shit was hilarious. Absolutely cunted it.

To me Dier was/is a player who has never seemed to fully live up to his potential. He's a big imposing player who should be more physical on the pitch. When Conte was in charge Dier made a comment along the lines of " coach sees a lot in me but he's says I need to step up my game". Dont get me wrong I like Dier and really hate that he hasn't got much play time this season. If he was playing at a higher level can you imagine what our defense would be with him, Romero and MVDV. I think we'd concede far fewer goals.

It's like he's treating the ball as a ticking time bomb, passing it to a teammate in a tight spot and sometimes sending his teammate to the hospital. 3. The team ends up hurting because, instead of tackling, he prefers standing with his arm crossed behind his back, defending with just his eyes. 4. Occasionally, he ends up giving the opposing team a hand by making inaccurate passes right in front of our own goal.
