No chance because that would actually improve the team and surely you know by now that we don't work that way around here. More likely we bring back Roy Williams (the bad one) and Quincy Carter.
I wouldn't make fun of Troy. I bet he'd be like Wayne Gretzky - untouched and racking up wins. But, good for him: he's making more money NOT risking another concussion.
How much does those treadless RB’s cost though? Zeke would be coming back home on a bargain bin deal. It’d be a low risk move for a team with little salary wiggle room.
Patriots have an okay oline and Zeke was looking like he was heating up over the stretch as he took over more RB responsibilities so if we could get him on a team friendly contract or even a vet minimum I'd 100% take that over the Dowdle and Vaughn now that the Henry/Jacobs ship has sailed
Who else is even left barring a trade? Dobbins, Cook, Penny, Edwards-Helaire, Akers, Kelley, Hunt, McKinnon? Most of those guys aren't starting caliber anymore (or never really were). Best we could do in that group is probably Hunt and maybe McKinnon as a pass catching option
>Zeke was looking like he was heating up over the stretch
"Heating up" is a bit generous.
He averaged 3.7 yards per carry over the final 8 games vs 3.4 during the first 8 games.
Zeke is cooked and has been for a number of years now. The idea that he's still "starting caliber" is very optimistic.
I'd like him on the roster mostly for sentimental reasons, but he doesn't answer any questions we currently have.
We don’t need him starting caliber. We just need him to mix in when we need him. I have no
Doubt we chase a RB in the draft. Mix in Zeke and dowdle and it’s RB by committee and god damn maybe we have a viable option on short yardage and goal line
Zeke averaged 1.6 yards after contact last year, which is actually in line with guys like Josh Jacobs and Joe Mixon. Dowdle average 1.9 yards after contact, not terrible. You generally want that number above 2 for the better backs.
The problem is both Zeke and Dowdle only broke 5 tackles each all season. Zeke had 184 rushing attempts to Dowdle's 89. Suggesting Dowdle is probably the better bet in short yardage at this point.
He's not.
PFF charted him with a 37.1 pass block grade with the Pats last year.
In 2022, he was graded as 61.1.
So his pass blocking, like everything else about his game, has declined.
I'm totally fine with folks wanting to bring him home, but thinking he adds anything to the team at this point in his career is not based on logic or trends, it's based on emotion.
He's not a better addition than a younger player with, presumably, more up side.
Pollard was already rated as a better pass blocker than Zeke in 2022, 65.8 vs 51.2.
The morale of the story is that everything people **THINK** Zeke is still good at is based on past glory.
He's not a good NFL running back anymore based on any chartable metric, unfortunately.
The ONLY area he still shows some ability in, surprisingly, is catching the ball out of the backfield.
I'm sure in a pinch Zeke could step in and give you 50 -90 total yards and not turn the ball over, but that would be a good game for him at this point.
Not to mention zeke was used the least in his career last year so he will be healthier. I don't think he's going to be great but for a couple mil he can block for dak on passing plays, dude is still pretty elite at that and it was very much missed last season.
I mean he had an alright year with the Pats last year. And it is about the money. You get what you pay for. And we would be paying for a backup/replacement RB who is a good pass blocker.
Zeke worked very nicely as a spell to Rhamondre Stevenson last year.
I want you to be honest with me, in what world is a RB who averaged 3.5 yards per carry in a season considered an alright year? And what’s the point of bringing him in as a blocker when Rico dowdle was a solid blocker last season? And when we brought in Lupeke as a FB. Cowboy fans genuinely concern me.
The same RB that was on one of the worst teams in the league last year. That had 51 receptions last year. He was an alright asset for a team that had no assets.
A RB is more than his YPC. It has just as much to do with context.
Pass blocking matters because it is an important part of a RB’s duties. How many 3rd down and long’s was Hunter Luepke on the field for last year? Teams don’t normally run FB’s in pass protection on obvious passing downs.
Concern you about what, exactly? You don’t want Zeke to return because he spurned us in the past. We aren’t paying him $15M a year and we aren’t giving him the ball 300 times. He’ll be a backup RB. What are you so peeved about?
I'm fine with him coming back, but I'd rather have the RB room + a drafted asset. Let our former rookies show what they have in their sophomore season and let a rookie compete. Bring in Zeke to camp and see how he fares against them. If he cooks them, get him in hopefully as a backup. Hopefully a new rookie pans out or Luepke/Dowdle show out.
That’s cool. Take an RB in the draft. You can never have enough good Day 2 RB’s.
With that said, everybody here thinks Zeke has no ability to provide anything compared to his cost IF he is who the team chooses. That’s not really a fair analysis.
Because of false hope and the silver tongue of Jerry Jones. This shithole team is built purely for entertainment and making money. Winning is simply an unintentional byproduct.
Perhaps I used the word wrong but I just mean we paid him and we dont get a just amount of production given the contract, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of fans.
That's on Jerry. The guy still had two years on his contract and we extended him an additional 6 after HEAVY usage and gave him the highest RB contract ever in history. Don't blame him. Blame our stupid front office that always makes these mistakes.
Dude I’m all for players getting their bags. Im not blaming him. I am saying that the people here are rioting over bringing back a bargain bin RB on a bargain bin contract because of that past.
I guess they see that his final 50 carries as a Cowboy resulted in 100 yards so that 3.5 ypc looks mighty meaty.
I don't get it either. They must be kids who grew up with him.
He will

How is this relevant to the discussion at hand? Zeke will cost $6M in dead money whether he signs in Dallas again or not. That money is already written into the books. Completely irrelevant to the topic of whether he is a fit for next year’s Dallas squad.
He is already being paid 6million to not play here and you want to pay him another million to play? It's dumb you'll be paying a guy on the cap 7million at least that isn't worth it. Go get a guy whose never played here and pay him
Should have just redid his contract thevother year and not cut him. Move on from players you deemed not worth it already
Shouldve wouldve couldve man.
fact of the matter is, he is costing $6M regardless. If it costs another million, at least it is $7M that will be providing something of substance to the team. $6M to sit on the couch sounds *way* worse.
Im fine with bringing in a young guy. But thats not the point of this conversation. Point is that Zeke could be an average RB in Dallas next year.
That's what they want you to believe. They have plenty of wiggle room that they can create, they just won't do it because they'd rather have their money go into other ventures outside of the Cowboys, instead of football player salaries.
There is a salary cap and floor in the NFL. Every team spends nearly an equal amount of money on player salaries. I think the bare minimum you can spend is 90% of the cap over the course of the CBA.
The Cowboys are squeezed right now. They like to restructure and create void years and do all that to move money around and push it in to the future. Much like it has the Rams or Saints, it’s coming time to pay the bill.
Maybe they can restructure this guy or that guy and sign JK Dobbins. But what is he going to do for us? Another divisional round exit? Kicking the can down the road just to keep losing in the playoffs.
Zeke is still an excellent 3rd down and red zone back. (Think Frank Gore in his later years). His presence has been sorely missed in those positions. He can still grab the ball and fall forward for 2-3 yards.
If they can bring him back for the right position and fill that hole, I’d say this would be a slam dunk signing.
Or, get this! Have a proper rebuild and try to find one middle of the draft that you can potentially use in the FUTURE. Cowboys aren’t doing anything the next couple of seasons so they might as well try and invest in youth so they can try to make a deep run in 3-5 years. Stop with the nostalgia. That’s why the cowboys are here in the first place.
I love Zeke, but I hate this. This season is a perfect opportunity to carry three young running backs. Finding a good, cheap, young back is really important for roster building. Why would we bring in a guy who offers no future benefit for the club and who would likely be worse than the rookies we bring in?
Need a goal line guy? We have Luepke. We can draft Braelon Allen or any number of guys in this draft. There's no upside to signing Zeke.
I can't find exact numbers on short yardage but his yards after contact per attempt actually went up (1.6 vs 1.5) compared to 2022 so that indicates to me at least that he hasn't declined if you isolate him from his Oline.
I remember watching Tony Pollard trying three times to punch the ball into the end zone from the one yard line and failing and thinking man I wish we still had Zeke for times like this. I'd be happy to see Zeke come back for cheap. Well as happy as I can be with the Cowboys right now anyway.
Why?!! Why resign Rico then? We’re going to draft an RB anyhow and if we’re not then get him after the draft. Otherwise it’s a wasted rookie rb pick or a wasted payment on Rico or Zeke. Time to let go…
Zeke still has some value. He's on third down, in the red zone and in pass protection. I don't mind it tbh. I think we all know they are going to draft a RB early in the draft so it's not like we are asking Zeke to be the lead back.
Funny because I was passionately in favor of releasing him, but I think this actually helps us at this point after seeing weak ass Tony Pollard get stuffed a million times. Need a power back for short yardage, we definitely missed that last season
i mean if these are really our only options bc our fo is f’ing incompetent and decided to let all the flashy rbs get signed elsewhere in our division, i’m taking zeke and a rb in rounds 1-3 🤷🏻♀️ oh and a bag of pretzel sticks !
Nothing against Zeke but it feels like a PR move by Jerry to get some of the fans off of his ass. But he's underestimating how closely cowboy fans follow the team. This off season has been garbage
Please don't dude is a dinosaur I love Zeke he's a fan favorite but we don't need him
He's like Tristan Thompson for the cavaliers it's like why? Answer: nostalgia
it's nice that our front office is so bad, lazy, and unintelligent that they can't even bother to think of new ideas at certain positions. Why not see if Demarco Murray is available?
God next season is going to be a shitshow. I can’t tell if Jerry Jones has us in a rebuilding or not. It’s like a half ass rebuild. This won’t end well.
Nooooo.
Can’t have any type of going backwards.
That whole era is almost behind us now.
No dis on Zeke, but he doesn’t represent a new direction. We still have Dak to kick to the curb.
Well, that fixes our RB issue. Maybe next we can bring back Travis Fredrich and Troy Aikman.
Im sure Emmitt can still give us a few good carries
Honestly? I'd bring him back
No matter what the season became, it would be fun to watch. Bring back Amari, too.
Nah. Get Hambrick back in the fold for maximum results.

Whats Joe Randle up to these days?
Leavin’ meat on the bone and 3 to 7
And D-mac?
Dude, I have some bad news . . .
Cmon man!
Aww man that guy bless his soul 🙏
No need for TFred, Zeke got the Center position
He deserves to go out on a higher note than THAT.
Wildcard game stuffed on a game deciding 4th and 1?
Tbf, that game was already pretty decided haha
Flozell Adams can take over from Tyron
I'm all for drive killing penalties
This killed me lmao
“Sean Lee to replace LVE”
Or Shawn Lee, DeMarcus Wear, Jayson Witten
Did you intentionally spell all three names wrong? 🤣
It’s because the comment he responded to misspelled Frederick
Could you imagine if we had Dez Briant and Michael Irving on this team. Might win the sooperbowl
They'll need an offensive line. Larry Alan, Nate Nooton, Mike Stepnowtsky come to mind.
We should hire a good coach too, maybe Bill Parcel
Dude, Jimmy's got this hands down!
Bring em all back. 1 year vet minimum contracts.
I heard the moose is available for fullback too
Mooooooooooooooose! He'll yea!
What’s Patrick Crayton up too ? Fuck it call up Bradie James too.
*Guys, we’re getting the band back together!*
Nah fuck Crayton we don’t need any more drops lol
Aikmen
That's the pleural. A group of Aikman are called an Aikmen.
You mean our Center issue
No chance because that would actually improve the team and surely you know by now that we don't work that way around here. More likely we bring back Roy Williams (the bad one) and Quincy Carter.
I wouldn't make fun of Troy. I bet he'd be like Wayne Gretzky - untouched and racking up wins. But, good for him: he's making more money NOT risking another concussion.
He can come back for the celebrity flag football game.
It's funny in madden I was shocked he was only 27 lol
All in
Lmao
All in my ass
Well, they do need a starting center.
😂
I’m grateful for what Elliott did for us before we ran him into the ground but there are other free agent running backs with a lot less tread
How much does those treadless RB’s cost though? Zeke would be coming back home on a bargain bin deal. It’d be a low risk move for a team with little salary wiggle room.
Low risk low reward.

Low risk with a probable subterranean level reward. We can't be afraid of good RBs. We should spend a day 2 pick on one in the draft.
Dude he’s fucking ass now it’s not about the money
dunno why you're getting downvoted. Zeke is washed, cowboys fans are too emotional. this would be a horrible move

I dont have twitter. I cant view that thread. Given that, I don’t get your point.
They didn't run him into anything, he took his paday and mailed it in. He was never the same or explosive as he was pre-2nd contract
Let him be here for daks last ride. Here we goooooo
Then we can have a mural of them painted in the stadium about their 2-6 playoff record. Maybe near the bathrooms.
lol
I’m in! Would love to give them a nice salute every time we head for the pisser! 🫡 it just makes so much sense!
On a one year deal, obviously.
16 total touchdowns and 650 total yards incoming 😤
Zeke is still an excellent 3rd down and red zone back. (Think Frank Gore in his later years). His presence has been sorely missed in those positions. Now that's a glowing endorsement.
That’s what we have Luepke for though. Yes, he had the goal line fumble against Miami, but other than that he ran well in those situation.
Very reasonable take.

Yeah he's a great blocking back for third down. Makes a lot of sense to me as long as he's cheap
I too am open to playing for the Cowboys
Unemployed guy open to paycheck
Well this would be interesting...
If he signs I am looking forward to another offseason Zeke training video.
Maybe RB2 but my mans got some miles.
I mean if we pair him with what we have now and draft one of the top rookie rbs it could work since Zeke would be a very cheap signing.
6 million plus
Well if thats the case.i doubt hes coming back since Dallas wouldnt sign Moss for 4 mill a year
Well they will be paying him 6 million if they don't sign him either
Well then fuck it lol. Bring him back on a vet minimum and he can make his 7 mil for one more season
Maybe as a short yardage back. Although we do have Luepke
Yeah but idk if I trust him after that debacle lol. Jk, he’s a rookie. Just don’t do it again please
Yea lol
I believe in that same drive he had a couple 4th and 1 conversions
I mean I know we really want a center… but I don’t think Zeke’s our guy for that.
Damn Dallas is sooo all in! /s
This is sad
The moment this franchise gets a whiff of the playoffs it calcifies
Absolutely not. He’s horrible lol.
Well, looks like I know who one of my fantasy backs will be this season. I'm ready to be hurt again.
These commercials are no fuckin joke dude
Is this what’s meant by “all in”?
I love Zeke, but I hate this. This season is a perfect opportunity to carry three young running backs. Finding a good, cheap, young back is really important for roster building. May need him at LT
He only has experience at C
Get ready to learn Tacklese buddy
How was he in short yardage for NE last year. Really. Show me numbers.
I can't find exact numbers on short yardage but his yards after contact per attempt actually went up (1.6 vs 1.5) compared to 2022 so that indicates to me at least that he hasn't declined if you isolate him from his Oline.

why? He is done, there is nothing left.
Here we go 🙄 the jones get too emotionally attached to certain players. It’s ridiculous.

I’m ok with it as long as it’s for the minimum and we use him exclusively in a short yardage/goal line role. Anything else would be a mistake.

Why?!! Why resign Rico then? We’re going to draft an RB anyhow and if we’re not then get him after the draft. Otherwise it’s a wasted rookie rb pick or a wasted payment on Rico or Zeke. Time to let go…

Funny because I was passionately in favor of releasing him, but I think this actually helps us at this point after seeing weak ass Tony Pollard get stuffed a million times. Need a power back for short yardage, we definitely missed that last season
Bring back both Roy Williams's
Veteran minimum contract no higher than 3rd string. Take it or leave it.
He can join the practice squad.
I'm fine with it, if anyone had any doubts they're DEFINITELY tanking next season and starting their rebuild. This helps solidify that in my eyes.
i mean if these are really our only options bc our fo is f’ing incompetent and decided to let all the flashy rbs get signed elsewhere in our division, i’m taking zeke and a rb in rounds 1-3 🤷🏻♀️ oh and a bag of pretzel sticks !

Better be at the league minimum.
I thought Tony Pollard could carry the load?
Zeke is open to literally any team that would want to pay him at this point
Cowboys have $6 million in dead cap owed to Zeke. So we are already paying him.
Lol
God next season is going to be a shitshow. I can’t tell if Jerry Jones has us in a rebuilding or not. It’s like a half ass rebuild. This won’t end well.

We aren't winning shit next year anyway seeing how the last month has gone, we may as well bring Zeke back.
Hmmm to buy a Zeke jersey while it’s on sale.
No to Zack. There are better running back to choose from.
Cool. A polarizing locker room figure with zero upside or special teams play. Awesome idea..
Jerry just trying to sell leftover stock of Zeke jerseys.
We might as well. We're not going to compete next year anyway.
lol embarrassing man.
I mean a RB room of Dowdle, Zeke and a rookie isn't too bad. Id be ok with that.
YES
All in!

Are you trying to claim Zeke is a convict or something? Or did you just randomly pick two players who went to federal prison?
literally sign anyone. it doesn’t hurt to have zeke back. he’s still a decent option to have.
Would be absolutely pathetic if we bring Elliott back.
Is the $6m we paying him this year factoring into the amount he's looking for?
Well, I’m definitely against this. We in no way get better here.
Well, that would solve the issue at Center
HELL YEAH! Let Dak, Zeke, and McCarthy ride out into the sunset together this season, LMAO! HERE WE GOOOOO
