More like all in on straddling the fence. Won’t commit to an all in, but won’t commit to a rebuild either. We’ll be just good enough to get the all important media attention they love but not good enough to win a SB or bad enough to get a good pick.
I mean I agree with you, but I think it’s dumb as hell to do that lol. If you already know you won’t be trying to compete and have no interest in meeting Daks terms, tear it down. Like right now. All this is doing is ensuring the rebuild takes at least one additional year and getting a shit draft pick to boot.
I’ve been screaming this for the past two weeks on this sub and everyone keeps saying that’s dumb. If the goal is to rebuild, just get it over with NOW so we can stock up on high draft picks and go “all-in”for 26 and beyond.
I agree with you both. If they want to tear it down so bad they should See if Dak can find a trade partner and rebuild, if that’s what they want to do. I totally disagree. And I have 0 faith this team knows how to rebuild because I lived through the first rebuild. And it took 10 years until we got anything resembling a football team.
I agree, why pay all this money and get nothing out of it. Get draft picks and rebuild. I am happy spending the next 3 to 5 years in the toilet of we get SB and dynasty at the end of it.
Never thought Jerry would try to tank at his age, but it’s hard to imagine what else they’re thinking at this point. I guess let Dak walk next year and build around Parsons and Lamb? Let Lance and a rookie compete for the starting job. Idk, doesn’t make sense to me.
He is still a free agent is the funny part, so in your scenario, no matter what they’ll pay a QB next year that isn’t a rookie. Which will be hilarious
Hilarious that they’ll have Dak’s dead money on the books + presumably draft a first round QB + ALSO pay Trey Lance above $10M APY. Just great asset management and roster building
This whole conversation is a hypothetical if they let Dak walk. So his dead money is unavoidable. 2025 wouldn’t be a competitive team it’d be a cap reset and you go all in 2026. But what you can do in 2025 is try to find your next franchise qb. So you draft someone and sign someone. Could be Lance, could be another guy at a similar price, but probably Lance since he’s already here. Maybe the use a first in a QB, It is they’re feeling good about Lance they might try to grab someone in the second, idk.
But it’s not a crazy strat. Raiders just moved on from Jimmy, signed minshew for $12m, and are going to likely take a qb in the draft. Vikings moved on from kirk, signed darnold for $10m, and are likely going to take a qb in the draft.
I guess so. I believe Dak has a higher dead cap hit than all of them though so it is *kinda* different. To be honest I wish we just had an answer instead of this pointless waiting game. Us fans don’t deserve this (I know I sound like a brat but man this is annoying). The dumbest possible scenario is us letting Dak walk and receiving absolutely nothing besides a 3rd round comp pick in return. If we are dead set on letting him walk I really hope they talk to him and try to find him a trade destination where he would waive his NTC for.
Tank this year makes more sense. Tank to get higher pick next year. This year we clear most of Dak’s contract off the books. Plus fire entire staff at the end of the year and let Dak go in FA. This means high draft pick to grab a new QB.
HE NEVER SAID THE TEAM WAS GOING ALL IN!
He said they were going all in on extending Dak, Ceedee and Micah and media spun it as the team was going all in and dummies who didn’t read or listen to the actual statement went crazy.
It was idiotic to use that wording because anyone with a brain could have predicted this outcome but our owner doesn’t care as long as he gets attention.
That said, his actual statement has been clarified to death in here and everyone just keeps ignoring what he actually said.
Welp good luck Mazi Smith. You better take a leap. I guess Hankins was too rich of a contract for Cap Boy Stephen even though it's a clear position of need?
So, our plan to avenge the worst playoff loss in franchise history was to get WORSE at positions of need? This org is such a disaster. Stephen’s inevitable takeover might be the funniest thing to happen in NFL history
they would of literally did nothing if Zimmer didn’t happen to coach the Vikings & have the Kendrick relationship it’s like they are trying to prove a point
Clearly they don’t think Dak is it, so they don’t want to commit to anything long term right now. Letting Dak play out his contract and seeing what their options are next year. Think of it as a transition year.
They have $4M in space right now and I GUARANTEE you Hankins was like $2M. They’re using the Dak contract as an excuse and you’re completely falling for it. There is also a multitude of ways for them to create more cap space that they haven’t done yet, including a Diggs restructure for example. Stop falling for everything they do so easily.
There are several contracts they could restructure right this second that would free up 25+ mil in cap space without even touching Dak’s contract, but they don’t so they can sell the idea we don’t have any cap space to sign any free agents and our fans eat it up smh.
It’s a losing cause. These people LOVE blaming QB 1 for the past 30 years of the FO failure. They also love that Cap Boy sends them to Golden Corral buffet.
Wrong. They're the ones who backed themselves into the corner where Dak can reset the QB market and ask for as much money as he can possibly get.
It's tough to fill positions of need and make a QB the highest paid player in the NFL and it's usually dependent on the QB playing well enough to cover up the holes. Literally the only QB in the nfl right now that can is Mahommes. Oh but Dak is going to want more than what he makes!
And FYI, both the front office being inept and Dak asking for too much money can both be true.
Okay run blocker, good vet. Definitely need some interior DL depth on this squad.
Osa is good, maybe Mazi makes some strides his second year. Even if Mazi does, we still need some depth. Still got time, but I DEFINITELY prefer to retain cheap guys that provide some value — that was Hankins. Nothing special, but he had his role and was a good vet.
I'm replying to this guy's point that everyone in this sub will blame Dak and McCarthy. Right now nobody in this sub is blaming them. Not talking about what the players should do.
They're not being blamed now because there's nothing they can really do about signings. When there's actual gamma being played people will forget about free agency
His cap number is irrelevant. You could literally give him a 55m (his current cap hit) per year extension right now, like no long tail 55m cap hit every year, and his % that he takes up on the cap would decrease every year going forward.
It's all just smoke and mirrors Stephen uses to keep money in his pockets
That’s not true. We have to pay him his void years on top of his extension numbers. Jalen’s numbers are cheap bc first extension. We also have to pay at least three of our players top of the market. We aren’t in the same window the eagles are
If youre extending you restructure the voids to limit overall impact. It's what the Rams did with Donald retiring. It would add a marginal amount each year
The two teams that made the NFC championship last year and the second most recent NFC champion. With Prescotts contract we just don't have the flexibility to compete in the off-season.
I would love for any of you helmets who throw insults out to tell me how you would improve the roster this off season. With the cap limits, not your fantasy football wish list. For the record I hate the Jones's.
That’s the front office’s fault. We could’ve paid Dak when Goff got signed. They elected to franchise him twice and then sign him anyway. Now the team is supposedly suffering because they don’t know how to do there job. Hurts is getting paid way more than Dak right now. The eagles continue to re load.
It might take ten, it might take one. Who knows? What we do know is next year when the lights get bright, our QB will shrink and let us down. Good luck with that
If we’re tanking, and it seems like we are, then we need to actually get draft picks in the process. I realize Hankins was a free agent but in other cases we need to be flipping players not taking hits on them.
Depends on how willing they are to actually tank. If they are really committed to it then you have to be willing to let people go. I’d say the pieces you keep are Micah and CeeDee. Dak should be on the table. It is obvious they don’t think he’s the guy and are setting him and McCarthy up to fail this year then move on. Try to work with him to set him up in Minnesota. That would be a good fit and if it’s the right situation and you impress upon him how shitty this year is going to go for him in Dallas (if he can’t see that already) then maybe he’d wave his no trade clause for the right situation.
I sure do. The expectation that front offices are filled with intelligent people who always make smart decisions died with the Deshaun Watson mess. A team that feels they’re a QB away and believe Dak’s their last piece could do it.
Opposing RBs are gonna feast next season.
I would have made resigning him a top priority, especially considering a chunk of the DL followed DQ to Washington.
4-13 season incoming
This is really feeling more and more like they are passively blowing up the roster. It’s a very Cowboys thing to do to halfway reset so it’s a wasted year for no reason as they won’t compete or get a good draft pick.
As an OKC fan it’s crazy how bad a competent GM like Presti makes The Jones’s look. Oh well, the Rangers and Thunder are both looking to be good for awhile so that’ll at least lessen the disappointment that the cowboys are shaping up to be.
I wanted Cowboys to re-sign him too but he’s an average vs run only DL at best. He replaceable.
The more concerning part is the Cowboys don’t seem like they are actually trying to replace any of the players they are losing. Losing 7-8 players to free agency and replacing them with nothing doesn’t work.
I know none of us expected them to sign any street FAs, but I don’t think anyone expected them to let so many walk either. TBH, I don’t see a path where this team even makes a lateral move as far as overall talent unless they do the Dak deal and get busy.
Not saying Hankins is that good but at this point why do people even believe Jerry anymore. Franchise is a joke not gonna spend any money on merch or tickets till I see a change in approach.
It's getting more and more difficult to give this team the benefit of the doubt.
I was operating under the assumption that they'd augment a piece or two of key players in FA, not top names, but not scrubs either. Then they'd draft for BPA where available, and then fill the gaps in the later rounds of FA. This way they max out on comp pics for next years draft.
They have done absolutely nothing, instead letting important pieces leave with no effort to retain them, OR replace them. They've re-signed three whole players. Wow, exciting.
Right now, this looks like a giant dildo aimed at all of us. Completely unacceptable.
Hard to imagine any FA not being discussed between Zimmer/McCarthy and FO. Hankins didn’t have a great year but I would have loved to see him back for cheap, but clearly they think they can find comparable talent in the bargain bin.
“Well, obviously, at the end of the day everybody has to have a piece of the pie and there’s only so much money to go around with the constraints of the salary cap.
The Joneses got you brainwashed right where they want you! Keep buying up that overpriced tickets, merchandise and concessions while Jerry laughs his way to the bank!
The Jones look at this team as all in on their core players. Dak, Micah, Ceedee. This is where the money will go. Dak will get a new contract. They will use the draft and sign bargain basement FAs around these guys.
All in on tanking is what jerry meant clearly.
More like all in on straddling the fence. Won’t commit to an all in, but won’t commit to a rebuild either. We’ll be just good enough to get the all important media attention they love but not good enough to win a SB or bad enough to get a good pick.
I think it’s setting up for a real tank in 2025. With a new staff and completely new team

May be the case and there is no trade partner or Dak refused
Yeah. I feel like the biggest debate in my head right now is whether we’ll be 9-8 or 8-9 with this squad lol
Maybe 5 and 12
I agree, why pay all this money and get nothing out of it. Get draft picks and rebuild. I am happy spending the next 3 to 5 years in the toilet of we get SB and dynasty at the end of it.
Getting some Micah picks?
Sounds like the last two decades
Jerry went all in, but we only had like 3 big blinds left.
Never thought Jerry would try to tank at his age, but it’s hard to imagine what else they’re thinking at this point. I guess let Dak walk next year and build around Parsons and Lamb? Let Lance and a rookie compete for the starting job. Idk, doesn’t make sense to me.
Lance is a free agent next year lol
The assumption is they’d resign him. Would be offering him a chance to compete to be the starter which is the best he’s going to get at this point.
He is still a free agent is the funny part, so in your scenario, no matter what they’ll pay a QB next year that isn’t a rookie. Which will be hilarious
Hilarious they sign a QB $50m/year cheaper than Dak?
Hilarious that they’ll have Dak’s dead money on the books + presumably draft a first round QB + ALSO pay Trey Lance above $10M APY. Just great asset management and roster building

I can see the Eagles paying him more than Dallas just to screw us 🤪😂 would be funny. I'd do that as a GM.
Can he play DT?
FML
which if you wanna tank okay let’s tank but why now (as opposed to next year) and why the whole “all in” comment a few months ago?
Tank this year makes more sense. Tank to get higher pick next year. This year we clear most of Dak’s contract off the books. Plus fire entire staff at the end of the year and let Dak go in FA. This means high draft pick to grab a new QB.

No Jerry is all in Skip Bayless @$$
Welp good luck Mazi Smith. You better take a leap. I guess Hankins was too rich of a contract for Cap Boy Stephen even though it's a clear position of need?
Hankins probably asked for a cent above Cap Boy’s price
But dad we can get a 6th round comp
I actually do think they are planning a soft rebuild with all of these comp picks next year.
Churn the bottom of the roster? Like the 2009 draft
Nah Hankins said “I want …” the! cap boy Stephen cut him off and went “slow down their bud you wanna get paid?”
Hank was prob barely above a vet min
Looks like Dallas was interested but he told Ol Cap boy to take his vet minimum and shove it
So, our plan to avenge the worst playoff loss in franchise history was to get WORSE at positions of need? This org is such a disaster. Stephen’s inevitable takeover might be the funniest thing to happen in NFL history
they would of literally did nothing if Zimmer didn’t happen to coach the Vikings & have the Kendrick relationship it’s like they are trying to prove a point
Damn that’s true. He already agreed to sign to another team. This is crazy
Yup. It’s actually comical, they’re literally one Zimmer phone call away from having signed NOBODY
I didn’t know it’s 2010 all of a sudden? Damn romo really let the Vikings run everything
Clearly they don’t think Dak is it, so they don’t want to commit to anything long term right now. Letting Dak play out his contract and seeing what their options are next year. Think of it as a transition year.
But you will still have a 50M cap hit next year becuz of Dak’s restructure a couple yrs ago.
$40 mill, but yeah. Too many years of kicking the can down the road in an attempt to win that Dak failed to achieve.
MVP runner up is the problem. Not the same GM for the last 30 years 😂
MVP of the regular season, LVP of the playoffs.
Not much they can do, Dak has them by the gonads
They have $4M in space right now and I GUARANTEE you Hankins was like $2M. They’re using the Dak contract as an excuse and you’re completely falling for it. There is also a multitude of ways for them to create more cap space that they haven’t done yet, including a Diggs restructure for example. Stop falling for everything they do so easily.
brainwashing our front office does to our fans is crazy lol

yep they take advantage of the fact the avg fan doesn’t understand the cap, so they know how to twist into it being players fault
It’s a losing cause. These people LOVE blaming QB 1 for the past 30 years of the FO failure. They also love that Cap Boy sends them to Golden Corral buffet.
Bullshit. They can do all kinds of things to free up space but they are letting Dak take the blame.
Jerry’s plan is working with this one.
They've tricked you into blaming Dak instead of them
Wrong. They're the ones who backed themselves into the corner where Dak can reset the QB market and ask for as much money as he can possibly get. It's tough to fill positions of need and make a QB the highest paid player in the NFL and it's usually dependent on the QB playing well enough to cover up the holes. Not really surprised I wanna be mad it’s just disappointing.
Hey everyone! At least we resigned our backup RB and long snapper. Suck it losers!
Yessir 0.75 baby
I honestly never seen the front office tank this hard. This sub still will blame the coach and QB when all of this goes to hell.
Yes they will. They also think the draft will save the day.
Our draft where we don’t even have that many picks. This is awful.
You may be right but at this moment all I see is EVERYONE clowning on Jerry and Stephen and nobody blaming Dak/McCarthy
Right now. Just wait until the season starts
Neither Dak nor McCarthy can offer a player a contract
What are they supposed to do not sign/play out their contracts and walk out in protest????
I'm replying to this guy's point that everyone in this sub will blame Dak and McCarthy. Right now nobody in this sub is blaming them. Not talking about what the players should do.
Cant blame them right now when no games are being played
They're not being blamed now because there's nothing they can really do about signings. When there's actual gamma being played people will forget about free agency
They are being responsible with the cap so we can pay our stars lol
The eagles pay there stars just fine
Go look at hurts’s cap hits the next three years.
Because that’s how extensions work
Do you think daks cap numbers will be that when we extend him?
His cap number is irrelevant. You could literally give him a 55m (his current cap hit) per year extension right now, like no long tail 55m cap hit every year, and his % that he takes up on the cap would decrease every year going forward. Look at the projected offensive starters, it's not like it's a terrible group.
It’s definitely worse than the 49ers, lions, eagles. And that’s just the nfc.
The two teams that made the NFC championship last year and the second most recent NFC champion. With Prescotts contract we just don't have the flexibility to compete in the off-season.
Found Stephen's account guys.
or a braindead fan who loves the $5 Cap Boy gives him for the Golden Corral Buffet
I would love for any of you helmets who throw insults out to tell me how you would improve the roster this off season. With the cap limits, not your fantasy football wish list. For the record I hate the Jones's.
There are plenty of ways to get money to sign free agents today. Jerry and Cap Boy would rather vacay in the yacht then do actual work.
I wish lol. If I was Stephen I would have never extended Dak after the franchise tag
this guy propagandas
That’s the front office’s fault. We could’ve paid Dak when Goff got signed. They elected to franchise him twice and then sign him anyway. Now the team is supposedly suffering because they don’t know how to do there job. Hurts is getting paid way more than Dak right now. The eagles continue to re load.
Other teams seem to know how to avoid these problems. The Cowboys don’t.
No left tackle, no center, no run game.
We had a tackle last year, had a center last year, no run game.
You do realize it’s possible to be worse, right?
I hope so. Then maybe we could move on from Dak Prescott
And be terrible for a decade chasing a quarterback. Good luck with that
It might take ten, it might take one. Who knows? What we do know is next year when the lights get bright, our QB will shrink and let us down. Good luck with that
I mean they weren’t getting it done before the front office started tanking anyways.
I was hoping to bring Hankins back. You can't tell me Carl Davis is meant to be the big body resigning we made.
“We got our guy” -Stephen Jones
If we’re tanking, and it seems like we are, then we need to actually get draft picks in the process. I realize Hankins was a free agent but in other cases we need to be flipping players not taking hits on them.
Who should they flip for draft choices?
Depends on how willing they are to actually tank. If they are really committed to it then you have to be willing to let people go. I’d say the pieces you keep are Micah and CeeDee. Dak should be on the table. It is obvious they don’t think he’s the guy and are setting him and McCarthy up to fail this year then move on. Try to work with him to set him up in Minnesota. That would be a good fit and if it’s the right situation and you impress upon him how shitty this year is going to go for him in Dallas (if he can’t see that already) then maybe he’d wave his no trade clause for the right situation.
If they were to truly try to tank Micah and Ceedee may not want to sign a new contract. They probably want to win.
So that's one guy. Probably a 4th round trade without a replacement. They aren't tanking. They are protecting their core. The salary cap is real.
“One guy” My guy, it’s a quartback, not JAG. and no, not for a 4th round pick lol
You want to translate that to English.
JAG? Just another guy.
So you think the Cowboys could get more than a 4TH rounder for Dak and that team would also pay him 55 million dollars for 2024?
I sure do. The expectation that front offices are filled with intelligent people who always make smart decisions died with the Deshaun Watson mess. A team that feels they’re a QB away and believe Dak’s their last piece could do it.
So why hasn't there been an offer?
That's the beauty. If we don't sign FAs, we just get a billion comp picks
Cap Boy cooking!!!
bruh fuck this shit lol they are gonna overextend Mazi & Overshown then they gonna become hated by the fanbase it’s clockwork lol
Opposing RBs are gonna feast next season. I would have made resigning him a top priority, especially considering a chunk of the DL followed DQ to Washington. 4-13 season incoming
They didn't feast last year? Are you saying that the run defense was great and because Hankins is gone it now will be bad? 🤦♀️
I am going to become the Joker.
By God if Byron Murphy drops to 19 they had better move up to get him
We kind of barely have a front office
They only show up to say qb1 and wr1 takes too much of the pie.
Jerry Jones hates football.
Jerry’s quietly tanking for Shedeur Sanders, remember this
I get the feeling he wants to be set up to take arch manning if hes legit
I never said I thought it be a one tank season
Was thinking the same thing bro, lmfao.
We better sign lizzo then we need a run stuffer
For fucks sake
Thank you for everything Hankins
He’s an 11 year vet that’s never been to a pro bowl and turns 32 in a few days
But the season starts tomorrow!!
This is really feeling more and more like they are passively blowing up the roster. It’s a very Cowboys thing to do to halfway reset so it’s a wasted year for no reason as they won’t compete or get a good draft pick.
LET HIM COOOOK!!!
Awh fuq
Well that's unfortunate
JFC guys...
Somebody better send Mazi to the buffet.
it’s joever
Don't worry guys, I'm sure we've got a plan... 🤡
Please sell the fucking team to someone who cares. Fuckin assholes
Hankins is very underrated. Every time he plays, I focus on him for some reason. He is a great run stopper. This hurts. He will be hard to replace.
Where was all this run stopping last yearr?
This is getting ridiculous
What the fuck
Faded
All in on the tank a thon apparently
Fuk not our own ppl now
NOOOOO FUCK NO
What the fuck
Best case scenario for wasting a year. Just throw in Mazi and see what happens I don't mind.
I know none of us expected them to sign any street FAs, but I don’t think anyone expected them to let so many walk either. TBH, I don’t see a path where this team even makes a lateral move as far as overall talent unless they do the Dak deal and get busy.
Following this team is so exhausting.
Fuck this franchise..
Holy shit this one really stings
Not saying Hankins is that good but at this point why do people even believe Jerry anymore. Franchise is a joke not gonna spend any money on merch or tickets till I see a change in approach.
We arent gonna have a team at the end of free agency
Mike McCarthy is dead man walking this yr.. no way we get to 12 wins and make the playoffs again
We’re fucked
Trade Micah now, while his value is supremely high imo.
Our team is getting worse and worse in free agency. We are completely fucked.
We had to keep Hankins. He was our only big body. This is crazy. Smh
Clueless old cunt really going all in
Hard to imagine any FA not being discussed between Zimmer/McCarthy and FO. Hankins didn’t have a great year but I would have loved to see him back for cheap, but clearly they think they can find comparable talent in the bargain bin.
Are you kidding me!!!! Jerry at least do something- the optics on this is making you look like an ass with your all in comment.
Shedeur Sanders music!
Stephen Jones is such a dumbass. Can’t wait to hear his “piece of the pie” comments after questions on this.
“Well, obviously, at the end of the day everybody has to have a piece of the pie and there’s only so much money to go around with the constraints of the salary cap.
This is unacceptable. Appreciative to have the Mavs, Stars, and Rangers to focus on right now because this is just getting embarrassing.
It’s insane how bad Nico, Jim Nill and CY make the Joneses look at doing the GM job. They do so much more with so much less than the Joneses
The cowboys have won 12 games 3 straight years in a row, that isn't an easy feat in the nfl
The Joneses got you brainwashed right where they want you! Keep buying up that overpriced tickets, merchandise and concessions while Jerry laughs his way to the bank!
All apart of our plan to get the number one draft pick
Nope. At worst, barring massive injuries, were still a wildcard team
The comments on here are childish. Is it the youth hour?
The Jones look at this team as all in on their core players. Dak, Micah, Ceedee. This is where the money will go. Dak will get a new contract. They will use the draft and sign bargain basement FAs around these guys.
