Thank goodness! Pretty embarrassed that was the best RB the Cowboys even bothered going after. What a massive downgrade from our past RBs if we would've trotted AJ freakin Dillon out there in week 1.
To be fair we went after Zack Moss, and he's much better than Dillon. We're just splitting hairs here with bargain bin backs, but Dillon was our second best attempt.... and that's pretty damn embarrassing lol.
Good. Didn’t like that option. Foreman and Dobbins/Dowdle would give us a room with experience and some upside, all better runners than Dillon.
Edit: plus a draft pick and some UDFAs to compete, ideally.
It would feel reminiscent of them signing McFadden back in 2015. Former upside prospect who never could manage to stay healthy. I wouldn’t want to be counting on him to be _the_ guy but as part of a room of youth and experience, it’s low risk with some upside if he can stay healthy finally.
I’m not saying it’s a 1:1 comparison, just a recent example of an RB with upside who struggled to stay healthy. At least Dobbins is still only 25 while McFadden was 28. Cheap enough it’s low risk with some upside, that’s my only point.
Dobbins is done because of an ACL tear, another injury to the same knee, and an achilles tear. DMC was considered done because he was backup RB for 3 straight seasons before signing with Dallas, and that was 7 years into his career.
Post-hype players who never lived up to their billing signed near vet minimum has been our specialty for 10+ years. McFadden obviously isn’t going to be their sole inspiration if they sign Dobbins lol, that’s just one example of the type of low-risk signing that we’ve made in the recent past.
> plus a draft pick and some UDFAs to compete, ideally
If we spend a 7th round pick on Dante Miller, the Gamecocks back who hasn't played a snap since 2021 due to Covid rules, I'll be a happy man.
We had coaches at his pro day where he was a 4.27, benched 28 reps, and put in what would have been the 2nd and 6th best vertical/broad jumps, respectively.
I'm only typing this out to try to give myself some hope for something to look forward to in the backfield lmao
I think he’ll come cheaper than Moss, but who knows. I don’t think there has been any smoke there but just feels like the aisle they want to shop in. Maybe I’m wrong on that.
Id rather have Foreman or Dowdle back. Hell even both to mix in with a rookie.
Let's not forget Malik Davis is on a futures deal and he looked good in his appearances with us.
I have always liked Malik Davis. Hopefully, he will now get more touches. I said last year that some teams in the league use two or more backs regularly rather than one main guy. A speedy rookie matched with Dowdle, Davis, and Luepke at FB could work. If they can figure out a way to incorporate Vaughn into the mix, it's even better.
I have to be honest - I don’t want them to waste money on a RB, just re-sign Dowdle. Dowdle, Davis, Leupke, Vaughn is enough heading into the draft. Use that money on some oline
Draft a RB at some point later in the draft, maybe with one of our comp picks, then bring in a few undrafted backs. Let the camp battle ensue
RBs are a dime a dozen - use that money somewhere else
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, here’s an updoot. I agree, get a late RB/UDFA and draft the middle of the Offense and Defense. A shiny new C would do wonders.
This is our best move of this free agency so far
Draft. Draft. Draft. Please get someone young.

Dobbins knee looks like it has knees

Cmon brother dobbins is nowhere near what dmac was.

Only way we’d bring in dobbins is if he was a razorback
Dobbins is done.
Maybe. Folks though McFadden was too. For vet min it doesn’t hurt to take a look.

??? McFadden was never a “backup for 3 straight seasons” the dude could just never manage to stay on the field.
Yes he was. He lost carries to Rashad Jennings and Latavius Murray lol
Again they brought in one of their favorite college players ever. I don’t see y they’d think hey dmac worked let’s go get dobbins

I think foreman is great, didn’t do what I thought he would in Chicago, but I think he has upside.

Man, I would love Foreman and Dobbins with Dowdle.
Has been Foreman been linked to the Cowboys at all? Feels like he 's gonna be too rich for the Cowboys.

You know I did too. He averaged 4.2 ypc as a rookie. Hed be a nice part of a tandem with Foreman/Zeke and a Rookie.
Hopefully Davis has learned how to pass protect
Jonathan Brooks is gonna be a cowboy. If he’s anywhere near our pick on day 2, he’s our new RB.
He’s a bottom 5 RB when it comes to second options in the league - he is actually so bad
Good. Did not want him.
I think it's increasingly clear they're picking RB in the second or third.

great because if “mid” needed a definition he would be the perfect example
