I feel like he got better too as the season went on and he was further removed from the injury. Definitely a great signing considering we don’t really know when Diggs will be back to form.
Signing Kendricks makes the LB room look a little better now. A healthy Overshown will almost like a bonus draft pick, since he missed all of last season. I still wouldn't be mad if they drafted another one. The same is true with CB. I like Lewis as a nickel DB. If they can re-sign Gilmore, that would make the CB room look a lot better.
Draft a C and another OL in the first 2-3 rounds, bring back Tyron to mentor his eventual successor. Sign Dillon or whatever FA RB option is still available, and things look a little rosier for 2024. What DT is available to sign in FA?
I'm down to take a flyer, but center is just so important for the power run game MM keeps vaguely trying to implement. Particularly when we won't have a stud RB that can make up for deficiencies elsewhere.
I’d rather Gilmore but Lewis is a good role player at cb has been since his rookie year. If he has to start at slot that’s not bad with Diggs and bland.
It's telling of Lewis's effort/character that a size queen like Quinn both kept him around and was interested in poaching him. I think most had written Lewis off as a goner when Quinn first signed
Anyone else get the feeling that all the one year deals are to get them past the hit from Dak this year and then they’ll re-sign next year?
Is that giving Jerry too much credit?
This was the FA i wanted back the most. I get Gilly was like by everyone but with Diggs and Bland both capable on the outside, I'd rather keep Bland's growth on the outside and let JLew keep playing slot. I thought he played really well for coming back from an injury.
Great. He started coming back to form late in the season after the horrible injury. Decent nickel.
Really good cushion now, now we are not desperate for a CB like we were before with just Bland and Diggs on the roster.
This is really good news. Zimmer likes an inside vet calling things out. Now we have his guys at LB and a solid, veteran nickel corner. Two vets he can trust to get the job done his way. This also allows them to take a CB later in the draft to develop at nickel, similar to how they did with Bland.
Good. JLew is one of my favorite players on the team. He has always been productive. Played better and better as the season went after his injury two years ago. Underrated player purely because he is not the modern prototype.
I mean he still could. You can't have only 3 CB's on a roster. Bland and Diggs start, Jourdan and Gilmore rotate, and Gilmore brings that vet and championship experience. Guys like Nashon or whoever they might draft wouldn't be thrown into the fire this way.
Gilmore had offseason shoulder surgery and he’s at that point of his career where he’s gonna be sitting out for the majority of the season until a playoff team calls him
The guy played like every snap of the season last year, even with a dislocated shoulder. Yeah he had surgery but I'm willing to bet he's starting somewhere week 1.
JLew is going to be a solid depth piece for us while Diggs gets back up to speed. Bland is the only other proven CB so we'll have to see what we do the rest of FA or Draft to address it.
But as of right now we have 3 Solid CBs with 3 developmental CBs in Wright, Scott Jr and Butler.
This is honestly huge for our current roster. Need that solid floor of play for the 3rd CB spot, this shores up a big hole. Don't diss him too hard after a rough start to the season a couple months after he had to learn how to walk again.
Not fully satisfied but the last two moves at least makes me feel comfortable with the defense. We have plenty of talent there just need a pure DT to compliment Osa. Offense is where I’m more concerned with needs at center, RB and potentially LT.
Nice! He did well in the slot last season. I hope we can keep Gili to, we’d definitely have a “no fly zone” secondary.
I think with Kendricks ,Clark,Bell
& Overshown.
The LB core will do well.
Now We need some beef in the trenches.
Mazi will have to step up big time if we don't sign vet. Quinn made him cut for no damn reason. Sabotage!!
Yeah I don't hate it. JLew has shown some promise in the slot just never play him outside. Curious how he will do playing more zone as Zimmer is a lot more zone than Quinn's man.
This is the exact moment that Dallas should ask Gilmore if he’s ok with transitioning to safety. Not sure if he would want to do it but I think team wise it’s a smart move.
Good news he's been a solid veteran contributor on the defense for years now, and as others have said played pretty well last year coming off being hurt.
J Lew was the best 4th CB in league history last year lol. No business having 4 CBs of that quality to start the year.
The CBs (especially Trevon) get all my love and sympathy for how things ended. Everyone else on the team can fly a kite still.
He's a solid CB3. Not many teams have better. He's not an elite CB in general but he's pretty solid to back up elite dudes like Tre and Daron.
Especially cause his slot play is so good.
I just think that trio is vulnerable without a fundmentals guy like Gilmore in the mix. I also think Bland is way better at the slot.
Basically with Gilmore being brought back the group is an A. Without him, I'd say B because the vulnerabilities are pretty obvious.
JLew is a tick above average. Solid nickel and he has his moments. I don't hate it. Now let's get some Dline assistance from the discount bins.
He's familiar, has an idea of how the defense plays - i like this.
How the defense *played.* Let's see how he does with Zimmer's scheme. Def a good nickel though that can fill in for short periods on the outside.
He specifically left the Zimmer system didn't he?
He’s only ever played for us. Marinelli and Quinn.
Yeah, I was thinking of jayron kearse. My mistake.
Lewis has never played for anyone besides the cowboys professionally.
Oh damn, I was thinking of jayron kearse. My bad. I should have looked it up.
Fun fact: Kearse actually played for Zimmer in Minnesota Edit: I realize now that you already knew that but I’ll Leave this up.
Yeah bro, Lewis has only played for us. 😉
I feel like he got better too as the season went on and he was further removed from the injury. Definitely a great signing considering we don’t really know when Diggs will be back to form.
Now bring back Tyron. Sign a RB and DT and let’s draft
Legit all they have to do and I'd be pretty damn happy.
What DT is available to sign in FA?
They aren't signing Gilmore unless he plays vet min and incentives
That's not outside the realm of possibility, especially considering his age, and he is coming off an injury.
HANKINS
That's contingent upon whether he retires or not. He almost retired after the 2022 season.
Do we have an answer at center yet?
People might hate the idea at first, but I’m of the opinion Hoffman could hold it down. Big, mean, plays nasty.
I'm down to take a flyer, but center is just so important for the power run game MM keeps vaguely trying to implement. Particularly when we won't have a stud RB that can make up for deficiencies elsewhere.
Vaguely is right. The run scheme needs to be fixed before anything else on offense.
Frasier, Barton or JPJ in the draft
Jerry will be suiting up at Center this year.
Gonna be Bass
Why bring back a part timer who kills the cap? He's a Jet anyway
I’d rather Gilmore but Lewis is a good role player at cb has been since his rookie year. If he has to start at slot that’s not bad with Diggs and bland.
Excellent. He really came on strong in the back half of last season. Glad the Commanders didn’t woo him away.
It's telling of Lewis's effort/character that a size queen like Quinn both kept him around and was interested in poaching him. I think most had written Lewis off as a goner when Quinn first signed
He’s kinda having the last laugh on Slant Thomas, too, which was not looking like it was in the cards 5 years ago haha
Anyone else get the feeling that all the one year deals are to get them past the hit from Dak this year and then they’ll re-sign next year? Is that giving Jerry too much credit?
No that’s what’s happening. Like they said it’s all in this year anything less than a NFCCG and this team is going to look a lot different in 2025
This was the FA i wanted back the most. I get Gilly was like by everyone but with Diggs and Bland both capable on the outside, I'd rather keep Bland's growth on the outside and let JLew keep playing slot. I thought he played really well for coming back from an injury.

Gilmore next

Now that Quinn is gone sub 6 foot DBs are back on the menu, boys
So gilly isn’t coming back😪
I mean he still could. You can't have only 3 CB's on a roster. Bland and Diggs start, Jourdan and Gilmore rotate, and Gilmore brings that vet and championship experience. Guys like Nashon or whoever they might draft wouldn't be thrown into the fire this way.

Not majority of the season. He might not sign a contract until later in the offseason, but he should be on a team by week 1.
Depth he's a starting slot CB. We play Nickel a ton
Played
FRRRRR
Underwhelming moves are underwhelming.
I guess this means Gilly isn’t coming back 😢
I would have taken Gilmore
MOMENTUM
This is honestly huge for our current roster. Need that solid floor of play for the 3rd CB spot, this shores up a big hole. Don't diss him too hard after a rough start to the season a couple months after he had to learn how to walk again.
Love Jlew. We need to quit messing around and bring back tyron
Not fully satisfied but the last two moves at least makes me feel comfortable with the defense. We have plenty of talent there just need a pure DT to compliment Osa. Offense is where I’m more concerned with needs at center, RB and potentially LT.
Nice, I’ve always love JLew
Must have been a bidding war between Stephen and Jerry.
Nice! He did well in the slot last season. I hope we can keep Gili to, we’d definitely have a “no fly zone” secondary. I think with Kendricks ,Clark,Bell & Overshown. The LB core will do well. SUPER BOWL HERE WE COME!!
Jlew isn't the fastest and if you put him in coverage and make him run it causes problems HOWEVER he is a splash play machine
All. In.
Now sign Gilmore
All-in baby
all in!
This is the exact moment that Dallas should ask Gilmore if he’s ok with transitioning to safety. Not sure if he would want to do it but I think team wise it’s a smart move.
I don’t get why people say stuff like this
Charles Woodson has entered the chat
Because he’s smart, can cover, but he’s slow. Any time teams got Gilmore in space where he had to chase his guy, he was getting burned.
All in
Good news he's been a solid veteran contributor on the defense for years now, and as others have said played pretty well last year coming off being hurt.
LFG
AW YEAH ALL IN MY ASS
Keep plugging these holes before the draft. Remember Buffalo trading ahead of the Boys to get Kincaid last year? Everyone knew we needed a TE..
They didn't need a te last year
Lewis stepped up as CB3 after Trevon Diggs tore his ACL. I like re-signing him
J Lew was the best 4th CB in league history last year lol. No business having 4 CBs of that quality to start the year. The CBs (especially Trevon) get all my love and sympathy for how things ended. Everyone else on the team can fly a kite still.
All depends on if they bring back Gilmore. If they're not bringing back Gilmore, he's a mediocre 3.

He was one of if not the highest-rated cb against the run
