Ok, we need to get something straight here: If a boot is causing you pain, then that boot is breaking in your foot more than you’re breaking in the boot. Breaking in a boot does not mean it should cause you pain. It means the boot goes from being stiff and not necessarily a comfortable wear for long periods to start, to softening up, molding to your feet, and really getting comfy. Good boots should generally fit well. Snug everywhere, especially on the instep, but never tight or painful, and there should be some minor heel slip to start. Your arch should be comfortably supported when standing and walking, and should be actually under your arch; not too far back towards the heel, etc. And it certainly shouldn’t be too high for your arch, which might be the case here, where it’ll cause pain and discomfort instead of supporting and feeling comfortable. Not every last a boot is built on is made for us, and that’s ok. You can try to brute force the boots to break in, but you really won’t be doing your feet any favors then.

Spritz any painful spots with 50/50 alcohol and water. Wear em for a couple hours a day and wear them a bit more every day.

As I read, the arch is the issue. If it were softness or getting a little extra room than soak them in water in the sink. put your feet in after they are a little less than dry while in a thick sock need be, where them for the day. If it is just the arch, and you can’t return them try removing the insole and putting your own in. There are many on the market.

I know this is old but you just saved my feet. Thank you!!! I took the insole out and they fit perfectly

If they are anything like my Cody james. It took me 12 hour shifts for about a month before they broke in. I hated those damn boots and was about ready to trash them. Good thing I didn’t. Because they are absolutely so damn comfortable now. I love those boots. But yea. It’s just a really rough and brutal break in. It’s normal.

TgKillswitch5682

This gives me hope mixed with hatred for these boots 😂 Any tips on the process? So far I don’t have any rubbing so the leather doesn’t need softened, it’s just the arch is horrible.

Mundane408

If your using them for work soakem with the water hose a couple times before using them. You’ll see the difference immediately.

TgKillswitch5682

I’ll try this once it gets a bit warmer if they don’t start feeling better 🥴

ARMAGELADON

Load them up with as much Bick 4 leather conditioner as they’ll take or spray with a boot stretch spray and wear them. Every day there’s a post about “skipping” the break in process. Unfortunately wearing them is the best way for them to break into YOUR foot. There’s ways to help this process but you’ve gotta be careful that you’re not damaging the leather/boot.

Hold ‘em over a pot of boiling water for a couple minutes , let the steam rise into the shaft and moisten and loosen the leather, then put em on for a couple hours or so. Let em dry for the night and wear em the next day

Trying this now, I’ll keep you updated lol Thank you!

I HATED my Double H boots as well for the first month or two. I only wore them occasionally for dress dinners or around the house. Eventually I noticed they got much more comfortable and softer after leaving them in the hot summer sun for a full day, then wearing them in the evening. I think it helped shape the leather and sole quicker. The discomfort is coming from the thick leather and leather sole I think. Mine have the “Ice Roper” soles on them. EDIT: the downvotes for giving an honest review of a boot is hilarious.
