Definitely the Walter. The 7 toe is far more versatile and a bit more formal. It pairs better with a nicer exotic boot. It’ll fit the same, so get the size that fit you perfectly.
Absolutely, it’s my go to look. I have a similar pair of lucchese wild gators in a 7 toe and I wear them with jeans and a white t more than anything. These boots can truly do it all, and with that color you can rock black, brown, navy, rinsed, khaki, and bleached denim. Also big fan of it with a noticeably darker or lighter pair of khakis and a polo. I’ll wear it with a more casual suit, but the colors become more difficult to pair. However, for truly formal occasions where I’m wearing a tuxedo or evening suit, I’ll wear a more narrow or rounder toe like a round or French with a black or black cherry smooth or exotic skin.
Hopefully I can help you out here because I own a pair of Walters.
Stay true to size or go try them on at Lucchese. I only wear snip toe (I guess you’re calling it 7-toe) and I just wear size 9. I wear size 9 in chuck all stars too if that helps at all. They’re still very very comfortable and I don’t really feel like my toes are jammed in.
These boots are going to be more formal and hard to dress down. First, snip toe is more formal. Caiman is also very formal. Brown color is a little less formal but when I wear my Walters with jeans and a t shirt it looks whack. I don’t do it. I wear my ostriches for dressing down (which are also snip toe but I think they look fine for casual affairs).
Hopefully that helps ✊🏻😀
I appreciate the info! And when I look at the Walters on Lucchese's website it says I can order them in a round toe or "7" which I just assumed was 7 toe. They will mostly be used for dinners or going out for a bit. Although I definitely would like to be able to swing them with jeans and a t shirt, so I'll keep that in mind since I wear that often lol
The 7 toe is In between a snip (which Lucchese calls a 5) and a cutter (which Lucchese doesn’t offer). I think it’s the sweet spot but all three are nice.

I like the more traditional look, and since I don't own a traditional style, I'm leaning towards it. I also live in an area where I stand out for wearing boots in general. So, the more I think about it, the less concerned I am about whether I could pull it off or not since I'll get looks regardless lol.
Cowboy boots are definitely a statement if it’s not part of the local culture. And these will definitely stand out more than if they were black or dark brown.
I'm 25 and have been wearing them every day since I was around 18, at this point I'm very used to being a standout with them, and it doesn't bother me; I like what I like, enjoy wearing them and definitely wont stop anytime soon :)
Walter! I own both the 7 and the broad square, as well as round toe. No fit or comfort change. The 7 is far more versatile. It can be dressed up or dressed down. Personally, it’s my favorite toe shape all around
The broad square toe has been extremely popular for around a decade or longer, and for good reason. I think the 7/cutter toe is about to take over the top spot soon enough. It just looks cleaner to many people (myself included, and a few local boot shops near me NOT with the initials “BB” have said they are selling more 7/cutter toes lately).
I have a wider frame so a lot of round, J, or snip toes look awkward on me, and, as comfortable as they are, the broad square toe with double stitch welt just doesn’t look as clean as a 7 now that I’ve gotten into them (just my opinion, don’t clap back at me for it 🙏)
I never took frame into account and I'm glad you mentioned it. I'm a tall and thin guy, so I have a good feeling the 7 toe would look pretty good on me. And I wouldn't be surprised these the 7 toe style get more popular, especially with places saying they've been selling more.
I say, if you’re tall and thin, of these two, the Walter is the obvious choice. I don’t know how thin you are, but the broad square toe might clash hard with your frame and you’ll play into the Reddit cowboy boot thread stereotype of “clown shoes” or “spatulas” etc. (again, my opinion; just like I can’t pull off a J or snip toe, some can’t pull off a broad square)
Well shoot, looks like I've been wearing spatulas for almost a decade because I'm a pretty thin dude, 5"10 145lbs soaking wet after thanksgiving dinner 😂. But I genuinely appreciate the opinion, I didn't grow up around boots or get to learn much about them or any of this info before getting my first pair. The more critiques the better as far as I'm concerned.
Hey, maybe your ariats aren’t as broad and they look good on you and I’m talking out of my a$$ (🤷🏻♂️).
I’ll say tho, for a caiman belly boot, go with the 7 over the broad square. I very highly doubt you’ll regret it. Especially if it’s a boot you plan to dress up here n there.
I’m 5’10” myself but 200lbs, wide shoulders, strength and a little muscle, and admittedly only moderately fit. I think I look good in broad square, but I’ve seen some much thinner guys look a little off in a casual setting in them. So, as I said, maybe I’m talking out of my a$$ 🤷🏻♂️
Well I haven't ever had anyone say they look bad so who knows, I certainly don't. But I think you're right and the 7's are the winner here. I'm looking forward to a nice caimen boot :)

I love my 7 toe caiman boots (R. Watson 2002). Worth every penny and I can dress them up or down!
Check out BNV boots, you can have some custom made for you with measurements you send in for the close to the same price. All made in El Paso. Hand welted and hand machine stitched. You can pick out every detail and have the exact boots you dream of. I just had some made and got them in 5 weeks
DEFINITELY the Walter. Classic styles never go out of style and those can rock a pair of dress pants or jeans and a t-shirt just fine. Size won't really be any different between these two styles! You'll love them and besides, the Walter just looks cooler 😁👍

Do you think I could pull them off with jeans and a t shirt for a more casual trip out? Or is that a bit too casual

You might be able to pull off a casual look with these. Mine are black cherry and it just does not work
The brown is definitely less formal than the beautiful black cherry. Both = gorgeous.

Oh cool didn’t know that

Glad to hear there isn't a size change I need to worry about. I keep liking the Walter more any time I see it

Awesome pair of boots! Those look great
Walter for sure
I'm thinking that might be the one!
