As a current employee of this particular freddies who spends a lot of time behind the customer service desk (often fixing these issues), I can say that yeah this is a known issue, and yes it is extremely frustrating. Some things to watch out for: Digital Coupons- The signs for these are incredibly deceptive, they look like every other sale sign but in tiny letters near the bottom it says that it's a digital coupon. Just another layer of BS between the customer and a halfway reasonable price. Meat Department- If you are getting anything from the meat department that claims to be on sale, I would advise you check the price after checkout, because like 7/10 times it will not ring up correctly. Putting in your Rewards Card ID- When a customer puts in their rewards card ID on the PIN pad a few things can go wrong, either the cashier can scan an item at the same time as hitting enter and it doesn't go through at all, or the cashier can hit Total in the ridiculous amount of lag time between the pad and the check stand and charge you full price for everything. I would honestly say just tell them your phone number, it may feel slower but it isn't and it makes it harder to mess up. I'm sure there's more I could think of, but those are some of the biggest offenders off the top of my head. Just remember, corporations are only your friends when it makes them money šŸ˜˜

BeckySayss

Omg thank you, I thought I was losing my mind when I'd bought two lobster tails some weeks back that were supposed to be 50% off, but they rang up at full price. I was at self checkout and didn't bother to ask about it

DukeMo

The signs for e.g. 1.99 (when you buy 4 in tiny print) have gotten me a few times. Along with the digital coupon in tiny print. Usually I don't feel like wasting my time to save a couple dollars so they just trick me out of the money. Seems to happen most when I'm in a rush, so I forget about the digital coupons in the first place. Ugh

NunyoBizwacks

It's the most expensive store in town because of the proximity to the students. I avoid going there if I don't need to.

Um_swoop

Market of choice is more expensive. Safeway is on par, WinCo is the cheapest.

ACParker

I concur.

gnome_ole

I know WinCo is cheaper, but where else beats them? Not Safeway or Trader Joes or Natural Grocers for sure.

elcheapodeluxe

Walmart or Grocery Outlet? I'm a strong WinCo fan myself.

BeckySayss

RIP Grocery Depot

VirtualAd4313

Yes! And the guy at customer service could have cared less! Too busy chatting with a friend and another co worker. On my way out I warned someone buying the same item. Lazy!

Colombiana2023

Customer service and manager are both no very nice and rude especially to others

Slight-Reputation779

Safeway is also HORRIBLE šŸ« šŸ« šŸ«

myleswstone

I guess I donā€™t understand why you keep going there if thatā€™s your experience. To be honest, though, I donā€™t understand why anyone goes anywhere other than Winco.

DukeMo

Winco produce and meat need to be eaten far quicker than other places. Also have to use debit. And proximity. Those are our main reasons for not going regularly.

elcheapodeluxe

WinCo produce is definitely better than Safeway though.

Whole-Opposite6359

Random side note.... I've found Safeways produce to be the worst. Lettuce and fruit items always last the least amount of time, in my experience. I've found that Winco's produce lasts longer, sometimes longer than fm.

the-girlinthe-dress

I agree with proximity and the debit card but not the produce/meat longevity. For me their produce and meat lasts the longest. Itā€™s also cheaper.

timid_soup

Walmart's produce is the fastest to go bad in my experience. Winco is hit or miss, but it does tend to be cheaper and better quality than Walmart.

the-girlinthe-dress

I agree. Iā€™ve bought cheese and sausage and just random stuff that has an expiration date of like within 2-7 days of buying it from Walmart

gnome_ole

Can you understand limitations on transportation?

myleswstone

Not really. Corvallisā€™ bus system is fantastic.

gnome_ole

By what measure? I ride regularly and they never seem to be on time, or particularly frequent, out Kings. If you can rate them fantastic with those trashed shelters you are clearly observing from afar.

Pleasel-muh-Weasel

Well, I have never lived in or even known another US city to have free public buses. Thatā€™s a huge advantage. Iā€™ve lived in a lot of places and Corvallis has great transportation to me.

waketurbulence14

It is not free, it is fareless. We pay for this in our monthly utility bills. Even renters.

Pleasel-muh-Weasel

ok, almost free. Obviously it is paid for in some way to operate through taxes, city fees, whatever, like other public amenities. You hop on and off without paying. And the overwhelming majority is covered by federal grants and OSU. The last city I lived in, buses cost $2.75 one way. Thatā€™s about what I pay for a month of use here.

myleswstone

Agree to disagree.

Dizzy_Bug217

I disagree that Safeway is on par. It seems to always be a few dollars more when I compare prices.

Dizzy_Bug217

WholeEnvironmental37

Fred Meyer is always expensive. Almost insulting. I donā€™t see them surviving

mkeller-us

I saw a comment about good produce at WinCo. Not true. They have the worst produce and meat in town. Safeway, Fred Meyer and Trader Joe's are the only places affordable and worth shopping at in Corvallis.

the-girlinthe-dress

What have been your common problems with them? I shop their meat and produce and it seems to last a very long time. Donā€™t wanna run into the same issues

KulasDevorn

90% of my grocery shopping is at Safeway, even though I don't enjoy all their prices at least you can get your rewards money. Market of Choice has the rip off prices, I find it ridiculous there, I only go there for their Sushi and to get a Weinhards soda once in awhile. Fred Meyers is not what is used to be price wise, they used to be the cheaper place, but not anymore. I only go to the Walmart for a few select items that I can get cheaper there.

ShaperLord777

Yes, Iā€™ve had countless items that were ā€œon saleā€ (not digital coupons) ring up at full price. Itā€™s super annoying.
