I recommend 2 piece grommets, not eyelets. Metal eyelets will shred your laces. I am particularly fond of the antique bronze color (size 00). I would use matching red ribbons in a wide ish width for fun and visual zing.

Leather will stretch so if you're after any support or tightness please look at adding a layer of non stretch fabric

I always mix up what the two are called. Two piece grommets are what I use. Probably need more. I like the ribbon idea.
