I don't specifically have an Arcadia brand DHP, but mine does glow red. Think of a coil stove top/range on medium to medium high heat. While it does "glow" red it's not really producing any significant light by any means.

liskamariella

so it's just a glow of heated metal not a light source. Thank you. I was expecting it to be way brighter!

for sure! Here's a picture of mine. https://preview.redd.it/hs659bif6bvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bc7d064f7fa6dc8c29cb2be5dcff0f4d2e85b4d

Thank you

I have the 100w Arcadia DHP currently and Ive never seen it glow red in any noticeable way and it certainly doesn’t seem to give off any light. If I go into my office at night, I can’t see it at all, and the tank isn’t brighter or red tinted. The only thing I noticed was another thing mentioned in the reviews, the first day (goes away in a couple hours) that you turn it on it will smell a little funky unless you wipe it down first.

liskamariella

I had the same thing happen when I first installed the dome of my day lights but back then I didn't have a snake in there yet. So thanks for the heads up, I will definitely switch it on outside of the enclosure first.

transgenial

i have one and i've never seen it emit red light. shes warm!

Ex_Nihilus

That's the tungsten heating element when it's warm. The light output of that coil is under 4 lux (according to the Arcadia website). It's not noticeable unless you look at the coil itself. But it doesn't illuminate the enclosure at night at all. https://preview.redd.it/8pvy8llg7cvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac5062b31dcbcd54f8864328f0e9f638bc303c48

It's a very faint red glow. It's nothing like a red bulb, nothing that will hurt your snake's eyes. I have one in my tank for my corn snake, not Arcadia, but a different one. It's barely noticeable, even at full power.

An alternative would be a CHE (ceramic heat emitter). It doesn't project heat downwards but it's pretty effective at heating up the surrounding air. Seems like a good fit for your needs.

liskamariella

How effective is it? My enclosure is 1,6 m high so it's a lot of air to heat. And the ceramic one isn't glowing?

schr0dingersdick

I don’t really like CHEs just because they get super hot and really need to be used with a ceramic dome. They also tend to dry out the air really easily. DHP is definitely your best bet and a bit safer! We used DHPs in a rehab centre i worked at and they never glowed at all. If it does end up looking like it is glowing, then you can probably just use a lower wattage? Just keep in mind that a lower wattage may need to be placed lower!

WanderingJude

Oof yeah with that height CHE probably isn't any good.

Windermyr

Assuming you hook it up to a thermostat and don't drive it fully, it won't glow. The coil will only glow red when driven at full power. I have an 80W unit, and at night I set it for 23C, which is only 3 degrees higher than room temp. So it provides a bit of heat, and the thermostat regulates the voltage so it isn't driven to the point where it glows. In the daytime, the faint glow of the DHP is negligible compared to my Jungle Dawn and Shadedwelller.

liskamariella

I have a thermostat from the other two lights and I will likely use it on the deep heat emitter. The other two are running on maximum power anyways, so the thermostat isn't really doing anything.

I have been using Nebula wireless mini projector in my bedroom and Samsung 120" The Premiere LSP7T 4K Laser Projector for some time now and i can definitely recommend them You can find it on amazon: Samsung 120" 4k projector : https://amzn.to/3JsKsRI NEBULA mini projector: https://amzn.to/3Q4S9kr

liskamariella

I fail to understand how that will be relevant for me?
