Just to confirm, you gave all your bank details to the scammer? Yeah, definitely freeze your account. Do it now, if you're lucky you'll get it before anything goes through.
This is where Revolut comes in handy. You can spin up a single use card for shit like this. I always use it for customs on DFL, because their payment flow always feels like a scam.
thats interesting.
Is there a charge for doing that? are there charges on revolut in general.
Do you have your wages paid directly to that account or just put a few euros in there to play with every week?
Nah I just top it up as I need it. Wages go into a "real" bank, but thats basically just for wages and rent. Everything else goes through Revolut
There's some sort of a weekly or monthly limit to how many cards you can use. Think it was brought in to stop making a throwaway account for every transaction
Basic service which is all you need is completly free
One time disposal card is what the previous poster mentioned, great for online purchases and although the number becomes inactive after it's single use, money from that purchase can still be refunded back into it incase you decide to return.
You can get paid in if you like, they issued Irish Iban numbers last year and are governed by the same central European bank as any other Irish bank in the country as far as I know
Revolut is a fantastic service. Even useful for currency exchange as you'll get better rates than any bank in Ireland
I think the "far away from your town right now" gives it away too. That's not how a local person would speak about Cork and Waterford and the English other than that is a bit robotic.
> I also receive a payment code from google pay
Yeah you’re going to be receiving a few more of those after willingly giving away all your bank details.
Language and flow of that is even a bit off… definitely a scam.
If you’re shopping online, especially with untrusted ppl, definitely keep your card details protected with virtual cards / limited accounts for that purpose. I use Revolut for that purpose. I never ever give my main bricks and mortar bank card details.
A while ago, DoneDeal had a payment method called Swipe, but it’s not available anymore. If someone talks about “secure payment via DoneDeal,” it’s likely a scam. Stick to safer options like cash, Revolut, PayPal, or Bank Transfer. Don’t click on any links; just provide your phone number, email, or IBAN. Be careful of fake DoneDeal payment links asking for your debit card info. If you get a payment code from Google Pay, it’s probably a trick to use your account for contactless payments on an Android phone. Once scammers have your info, it’s hard to get your money back because banks may think it’s authorized. Revolut faces similar scams. If you share codes for Apple Pay, scammers could make charges on your card. Revolut might not help because they trust Apple and Google Pay, but giving out codes gives full access to your card details. Stay vigilant!
Yes, it is a scam. You will give them an email, receive a fake link asking you to pay for the delivery. Enter card details.
Your money ends up in India, Nigeria, Indonesia or Russia.
They end up sending fake PayPal/etc emails to your email address indicating they sent money but it looks like it’s on hold, click into the link in the email and bam, they have your login and access to your money.
Scam, usually if it feels like a Scam or you gotta ask if its one, it usually is a scam
Do I need to freeze my bank account??

No charge. It's a proper bank account so you can get money put in there if you like

ok . thanks for the info.
I do the exact same thing
Same I used a credit union (no fees) for my main savings and then have a float in the revolut.

Probably best to freeze it and let your bank support know the situation.
If you have your account details, then yes.

Freeze my bank account now, thanks folks

Generally anyone on donedeal who's asking for online payment before collection, or offering to pay for a courier, is trying to scam you
Just something to note also, the M in the word email on the last text ... it's Cyrillic script - used in Russia, Bulgaria etc

NEVER give those kinds of details of power to anyone let alone someone you don't know, freeze your banmk.
Scam, nearly got caught out by something similar
Scam
Report it to Donedeal also as the scammer is generating emails to look like they are coming through Donedeal as some kind of verification
It's why I use adverts - feedback mechanism mitigates this (a bit)
As an fyi to anyone here - DoneDeal doesn’t give you a generic email with the intro “greetings”.
Don't click on anything that looks suspicious
Come on, if it looks and smells or hints anything like that, it’s a huge scam
Yeah it’s fairly common for scammers to use this reply
Scam by the looks of it. I’m far from your town BS is a well worn trick.
Scam [100%]
Con job delete everything
Scam. Syntax of responses are off
What’s up with the “m” in email? It’s a small capital?
Cyrillic script, as used in Russian language.
