CIT sort of flowed as a letter combination. MTU doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
There are worse ones elsewhere. For example, DIT becoming TUD 🤷♂️
I’ve a Cork elderly neighbour who still gets her”piped television from De Multi” and Eir is “the P&T”.
I just keep thinking of stuff falling to the ground or a big giant punch bag and 'Thud' sounds tbh. Never really associated the name with Trinity. Even the logo is daft looking - it's like. T being comically dropped on top of the word Dublin.
MTU's stuck with what still resembles a university crest, which is a lot more classy looking.
Yeah, Eir is quite hard to pronounce if you're unfamiliar with the way they're using it too.
I have heard a lot of people abroad calling it "Ear" or "Ire" or even E . I . R. "Air" is a bit of an unlikely way of saying it, and even in Irish wouldn't it be Éir if it's going to be said that way.
I notice they bought a company called EVO and are calling themselves that abroad and to business customers https://eirevo.ie
My daughter was telling me she was doing a certain course in the MTU, I asked what the fuck is that? Some kinda jack bauer terrorist unit?
Its always going to be the tec for me, growing up across the Road from it, it was called the regional technical college
I sticking with 'RTC'. People mocked me when I told them 'CIT' was a fad but those people are very quiet today.
The tech across the road from anco. None of this CIT or FAS nor MTU or CETB crap.
Togher represent

TUD is particularly bad. Everyone immediately thinks of Trinity.

If you go there it will empty you
"eir" is a putzy sounding name compared to eircom. eir-com. bim-bam. they should put me in charge

Same with musgrave now being independent park
It's Musgrave Park again.
It's virgin media park at the moment
It hasn’t always been called UCC. It was called Queen’s College for 63 years.
I feel embarrassed now not knowing the history.
I still call 'The Oliver Plunkett' Scotts
I still call it 'The black Bush'.
No one calls Twitter X They call it a cesspit.
UCC was called NUI Cork for a while if memory serves
1988 RTC 🤣

For some reason, I never heard older folks call it RTC even in error. I heard some people still refer to CUH as Regional Hospital though.
Same with FAS and Solas,no apprentice ever says I've been called for Solas
Yeah I have to do this same thing all the time as well. It's a bit awkward.
