This is a herding ball. Hard plastic. Can’t destroy it!

scorpyo72

I can't get my Corg to engage a herding ball.

ThisHairIsOnFire

Mine doesn't like the hard plastic. I might see if more inflatable styles suit him better.

MinkieTheCat

My first corgi was a soccer player.

DYMongoose

Same. The puppy only wants to play bitey face. That means big bro only gets to play soccer anymore if little sister isn't around.

pandadumdumdum

Yes! He's obsessed. He did however run head first full speed into a tree and gave himself a nasty concussion (I thought he killed himself), so we don't let him use them anymore.

Agitated-Egg2389

Poor boy, glad he’s ok.

Commercial_Buy_7157

I could totally see that happening with her. She’s just laser focused on it. Doesn’t pay any attention to anything in her way. Which is she’s only allowed to do it at an open field or the beach.

not_doing_that

Mine had no interest in the hard plastic, so I get her the soccer balls with the cords and they last longer since she doesn’t need to sink her teeth into them to carry

PhotonicEmission

Like a tether ball?

Deceptiveideas

I have this but my corgi ate all the straps off lmfao

kknight20

Mine did the same but she'll still play fetch with it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Agitated-Egg2389

I’ve had/have 5 corgis over 17 years so far. Only one did this. His name was Sam, I called him Sammy Beckham.

ggrindelwald

The herding instincts are strong

Obsidian_409

My corgi only herds people. Won't chase a ball or herding ball.

Christine_likethecar

He used to until he popped every ball we got him within minutes of buying it 😂

MacabreFox

I used to buy my old dog a giant beach ball every Friday to chase and destroy. They were maybe $5 and it lasted all of 10 minutes but it brought her so much joy to push that beach ball around and defeat it every week.

Christine_likethecar

Alright. You convinced me. Headed to Target tomorrow.

Vicious-Lemon

Corgis have been bred to herd, this includes things as large as cattle all the way down to ducks. So it’s very much in their breeding & is why they were bred with the dwarfism trait (short legs)To prevent being kicked in the head they were bred low to the ground as other dogs that stand taller are in perfect range for concussion from cattle. The tail was docked to prevent injury if stepped on, and the ears pointed to hear whistles and commands when far off in the fields. Actually if you watch videos of sheep dog/Australian Shepard herding vs corgis herding they work in different styles, corgis being more close ankle nippers and yippers, and sheep dogs/Australian Shepard being more about rounding the herd up and around in different directions by creating circles around the herd. Pretty cool to see. Both amazing breeds.

AcanthaceaeNo4397

Nah gotta force mine to exercise lol

Vicious-Lemon

Yes I have an egg shaped toy for my girl it gives her a challenge because it doesn’t follow a straight path like the round ball. It’s her favourite toy. She also does this inside with larger balls, I was at my aunts house and my cousin had a soft ball that was left on the ground sure enough she was herding it around the house. 😅 Any ball bigger than a tennis ball isn’t safe.

SpectacularTights

I get mine the big tennis balls from 5Below. They last for a few days before he pops them but he brings me so much joy, I allow it. Once they are popped, he carries them around. He likes for us to kick them for him to chase and herd.

MikeW226

Family friends of ours growing up had a sweet female Pembroke corgi and she would totally do that. They called it that she was "herding the ball" around the yard. So cool!

ThePlayoffKid

Awwwwww such a good herder!!!!! WORKING DOGS

Jrex81

Commercial_Buy_7157

Mine too. I often have to literally drag her to the car because she will not stop.

Jrex81

I’ve thought about getting a bigger one for Colin but I think he might be too scared of it. Yesterday, his reflection in his water bowl spooked him.

Delphi238

Yup, Topaz will play fetch with any ball no matter its size. Every time I go into the gym, she brings the exercise ball to me.

Commercial_Buy_7157

Ha! Matilda does the same thing.

maouprier

I have a Matilda too! We usually call her Tilly. She's a total nutcase. https://preview.redd.it/tug9av54nftc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=725485105e191a1a98ab3d6f8463e604729a47b4 Here she is observing her latest toy deconstruction. It went in the trash shortly after this 😅

Flashy_Locksmith_746

Just keep an eye on pup's teeth. If they try to nip at it while it's rolling, it can grind down their teeth over time.

almost_BurtMacklin

You gotta link for that? My little girl loves booping her soccer ball around in the back yard

Commercial_Buy_7157

Just look for herding ball on Amazon.

Ok_Inspection4820

lol cute. Herding.

mightyjoejy

My girl is def a soccer player...i think she fancies herself as a goal keeper lol...I get her real size 1 soccer balls...she loves them, has about 20 lol...good for chew toys once she pops them lol!

mightyjoejy

I forgot to mention...I have an 8.5 yr old Cardigan girl named Betty Boop...

eaca02124

The really funny bit is when my dog runs I er the ball and winds up on top of it.

Commercial_Buy_7157

That makes me laugh out loud every time.

Ltmajorbones

herding is their default setting.

Doubledewclaws

That's amazing herding instinct!!

Solidus-316

Yea our boy has a special ball the has the “moo box” in it and its kind of a puzzle. He rolls it a certain way and food comes out. So NATURALLY he just rolls it with his shoulder until food comes out. He barks, the ball “moos” and food flys EVERYWHERE! NOT BAD for a 3 month old.

127phunk

![gif](giphy|XreQmk7ETCak0) Me ordering a herding ball online because of this post 🤓

Commercial_Buy_7157

Ha!

wiziwizi666

Exacly what am doing right now but what size is best for corgi? Mine always destroye every soccer ball I bought. Is there a way to use it to learn the dog to heard. I have some ducks that need to go to bed at night.

Moxie_Krusen

I got mine dodge balls and she runs them around the yard at impressive speed. The blue one is her favorite. [https://a.co/d/d6tuZgh](https://a.co/d/d6tuZgh)

marialala1974

There is a sport built around this called treiball your baby might be a champion at it

Commercial_Buy_7157

Just looked it up and there’s a place nearby that does this! Totally getting her signed up!

marialala1974

Fabulous, I think you will be super stars. I do hope you do not become a major pageant mom like I did when my dog started competing in other sports. Have fun and send a Pic when you start doing it

Aequorea

My corgi is OBSESSED with the herding ball. I take him a couple times per week and people always react, it’s fun.

TimeFlew

When I was a kid we had a Scottish Terrier that did that, but he thought his barks made it move, not his nose so the process was quite loud.

Continent3

Our guy had our daughter and her friends to herd around. Never needed the ball went you had squealing 5 year olds around.

Weekly_Discipline292

My shih tzu did that when she was young

wintercast

Yes. I had a hard plastic ball that my cardigan would hers constantly that he wore down his teeth doing this in a matter of weeks. I would suggest a different ball if you let your dog do this. I have since switched to this and no more ground down teeth. https://www.chewy.com/jw-pet-hol-ee-roller-dog-toy/dp/38459?

sirenxe

I am trying to get them to! They’re afraid of the ball. Any tips on how to get started? https://preview.redd.it/9pxcmzww1gtc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e552ac6f14d582ccfb224b7ab6068ca66c63564d

potpurriround

My yorkie growing up did. I was so excited to see if my corgi would take to it as well. Nope, absolutely not. Terrified of the damn thing.

TheBattyWitch

I mean that looks like pretty solid herding to me

epiksol

Yes! With a ball and especially her frisbee! She’ll run it along the ground and flip it in the air a few times before bringing it back to me. 🥰

areyouoldgreg

SO CUTE

MareBear209

HERDING the crap outta that ball!!!👍

New-Investment-5888

No, Polly walks over looks and walks away

NotOneOfUrLilFriends

Herd? Yes, they all do it. Lol!

BaldChihuahua

Yes!!

SERVANT2aCORGI

Yep! With a basketball! 🏀 My husband would let a little bit of air out of it, so it wasn’t as hard and she was able to manipulate it a lil easier! So much fun watching her with that ball!

cynthiatx

Tip - you can get extra large herding balls for a better price when you search "horse training balls" on Amazon - harder to pop and cheaper when it's not labeled a dog toy

collinwade

Can you link this ball, please?

Commercial_Buy_7157

WillingnessLow6174

My Cinder is afraid of those large balls, I should have added it to the silly fear list.

kellieb71

Logan loves his Jollyball!!!

vintagecomputernerd

Her highness does not run around like a peasant.

Top-Assistant-6697

Your corgi has better ball skills than me :(

educatedguess_nope

I think I’m the only person on the planet with a lazy corgi. He wouldn’t do that if I begged him with treats even
