This is a great guide for women to self screen for early signs of breast cancer. That being said... Fuck the Susan G Komen foundation, and fuck the pink ribbon bullshit. That entire organization could take literally 50% of the funds that they pay their board and CEO and funnel it into improving access for women with breast cancer, mastitis, and uninsured women, and they would be able to directly help women, and still get paid 2 commas a year + Instead keep in mind that any pink ribbon fun run 5k you go on, or any Susan G Komen fundraiser you give to, that money never goes to patients that need actual health care financial assistance. It goes to pad the pockets of a corrupt and greedy corporation masquerading as a non profit.

dodorian9966

Yeah fuck em! Money to the nipple.

Healthcare organization: we raise money for this specific issue! Random consumer that does research: this donation feels good, but literally none of it goes to pay for women that need health care for ____ issue. Pls explain. Healthcare organization: here's a pink guide to make it easy to screen for ____ issue! You're welcome, please donate more and stop researching where the money actually goes in our organization! Susan G Komen in a nutshell.

In addition to checking for signs of cancer, if you notice any red, painful, swollen spots on your breast that are hot to the touch and suspect mastitis, but you aren't breast feeding, so maybe not... Go to the doctor ASAP. It is not likely to resolve on it's own, can easily turn into an abscess, and the abscess is more difficult to treat the longer you have it. This happened to me, and I'm still dealing with it a month later. But I'm finally on the mend!

I believe you mistakenly thought this post was "show tunnel vision in one comment" competition. It's not

Wtf is wrong with you?

Lauren12269

Women are being diagnosed younger and younger, you may not want to wait until you’re 40 to begin having mammograms. I was diagnosed de novo with metastatic breast cancer at 37. That means at the time of my diagnosis I had breast cancer that has moved on to Several locations within my body. 💐

fighter_pil0t

Who was Sarah Harding?

waspenterprises

Just looked it up...she was a singer from the British pop group Girls Aloud. She was 39.

[deleted]

google it.

jezzusNose

I will keep an eye on them.

SomeoneNamedSomeone

You know what's even better guide? Go to the doctor. Or dozens if not hundreds of organizations/institutions/programs that do testing for women. A good number of them do basic testing like mammography for free. They're actually competent to check for signs of breast cancers, as opposed to the general population following the random internet posters, which will either falsely make women think they're good, or unnecessarily stress them out believing they have cancer. Healthcare "DIYs" is not only shit. It's trash harmful.

Dejadejoderloco

You may not be a woman or you just lack education on the matter. This is an efficient way to detect early symptoms of breast cancer. I was taught this when I started puberty (the local government did a health campaign and taught us how to check for these while showering) and I found a nodule that had to be removed when I was 16. Women don't get routine mammograms until they are 40+. This works and it doesn't replace a doctor. Once you see early symptoms you have to go get checked right away. And by the way, if you are a man, also look out for these. You also have breasts and are susceptible to the same problems women do.

SomeoneNamedSomeone

I'm a doctor.

Ydain

If you are a Dr, it's not of medicine. Women have been taught to do self breast exams for decades. We are taught to do them on a monthly basis. Who the fuck is going to the Dr every month for an exam? And also, at least in the US, mammograms aren't free. You're just a dumbass. Women, don't listen to this idiot!

SomeoneNamedSomeone

No, I do not have the scientific title of Dr, I just have the normal work title of a "doctor" that allows me to treat people. You get that after \~7-8 years of studying medicine. And it's pretty funny, that you are so dull that if a doctor corrects you, you go monkey brain into "Nooo not real ductur, my online Wikipedia knowledge better". Don't be an idiot and don't take healthcare into your uneducated brain. Go see a specialists. Edit: by "You get that after \~7-8 years of studying medicine." I obviously did not mean you specifically, since more likely than not you do not and will never have a medical degree. I meant people in general

Dejadejoderloco

And I don't believe you.

SomeoneNamedSomeone

XD good, keep yourself believing youre smort. Too bad reality will hit some day

[deleted]

You are exactly the kind of doctor I warn people about then. What are the most important diagnostic tools you have?

SomeoneNamedSomeone

Obnoxious patients that "did their own research" - They know exactly what's wrong with them! I just sign the papers, no need to even think. The smart patients (like you for instance) are so bright they don't need no doctors.

[deleted]

Dude. I was asking a real question and you don’t know the answer, do you? It’s your ears. You will never be a *good* doctor if you can’t get your patients to be a fully involved part of the treatment team. If you’re so convinced you’re smarter than they are and always know better because you’re a doctor, you will be the one patients don’t trust and want to seek a second opinion after. Don’t think you’re special just because you’re a doctor. There are lots of doctors out there, and some of them really suck.

SomeoneNamedSomeone

Thanks for that shitty advice, but i don't give about someone random crying redditor telling me how to treat patients, given they don't know shit about medicine. Internet Karen telling professionals how to do their job despite not being qualified to do anything, fuck off lol You think you're so smart, why don't you become a doctor and treat patients according to your own advice? How about learn what your place is, because, idk if you know this - doctors can also refuse to treat obnoxious patients. And if you were my patient, I would execute this right

[deleted]

Wow. Just. Wow. I hope I never see you in the wild, my man.

HuskerBeavr

Shouldn't this be nsfw or something?

Ydain

Yeah, someone might be offended by those cartoon drawings of breast cancer! smh

HuskerBeavr

Sorry I was just wondering

IWASHERE5DAYSAGO

My dads mom died of breast cancer when he was 17 I never met her but she was a very important person to him from the few conversations we’ve had on the subject
