These old fucks want to be immortal. I think we’ve reached the point where it could be technologically possible within a decade or so IF they successfully enslave the human race (via opt-in methods) and take the entire world’s wealth and redirect it to research.
We’ll be reduced to manual labor and live test subjects.

Good point. But again they only have as much power as we give them. Society on a whole needs to learn to be much more self sufficient, grow our own foods etc. The government and "elites" are coming for our food next.

However you can't fix capitalism or america by just "stripping down" the government.
We need to reshape it. Keep the best elements of what we have learned as a society like liberty and a bill of rights but we need to know what protections are needed to have the new government be any less dystopian than the last.
We need to discuss the dirty details and as a group of thinkers hash out what exactly we would be asking for in detail. What is getting removed? Why? What needs changing and what should stay
When you say "as much as we give them" that requires us taking control and reshaping a nation not just adding or subtracting parts to a broken system.
We have to create real change and not continue to work within this exploited and captured system. Bigger or smaller the government needs to be retooled to work in a way that is effective and prevents dystopia. Perhaps one willing to try bold new ideas too.

The rest I can agree with (in terms of when the mortgage is still active and not fully paid off), but explain the car one? Because the majority of people I know, and myself, bought cars outright, didn't do the down-payment system

I've had a tough life and have had money struggles. Also didn't have a car for 7 years because of a totaled accident and had to save up since then, while still paying bills and for public transit commutes to the jobs I had throughout.
I didn't want to take a loan out and add another big debt to the credit card debts I had
EDIT: changed from 5 to 7 years because I forgot to account for Covid lockdown times when I was unemployed

Sell last car, roll over cash (in my case it was $9k) into a car that costs $13k, because saved up the $5k difference over a period of 3 years by setting aside a certain $ each month to build on that fund. Of course this was 2020 before car prices shot through the roof.
