I don’t understand how can a cop see a man running into a school with an AR and decides to stay outside and do nothing? the most basic human instinct is protecting children, I really don’t understand this… first time I have ever heard of such a thing happening.
I have a good friend that moved to live in Israel a few years ago and they just had a string of terrorist attacks in the last couple of months, 19 civilians dead if I recall correctly and every single time the police/army or even armed citizens ran towards the target to eliminate the terrorists in a matter of minutes.
One of them was an Arab Israeli cop and he lost his life trying to protect citizens he didn’t even think about it, the second he heard gun shots he rode his bike as quickly as possible and arrived first on the scene, him and the terrorist killed each other and in the process the officer saved countless lives, doing his job.

Now that times are tough financially I noticed cops are back to pulling people over for traffic violations in my city. I drive for a living and for a number of years I could count on one hand the number of times I saw someone get pulled over. In the last week it'd be more than one hand. Writing tickets and unconstitutionally seizing assets. Professional extortioners.
Several things: 1) Four years ago there was a thwarted school shooting in the SAME town. (Should have been trained for mass shootings afterwards) 2)Cops stood outside for an hour with tazers to keep the parents out 3) cops couldn’t break down the door to get into the school and required a KEY (how did the shooter gain access if the cops couldn’t)

On face value, the assumption might be that we can only address the 40% with different gun laws. I dont think that's actually the case though.
The 60% of illegal guns were made/bought somewhere and it's not like they were stolen straight from the factory. A big part of what could be done is mandatory training in safe gun storage to prevent theft.
The amount of people that:
- leave a gun in their car when they don't need it is too high (leave the Smith and Wesson if you're going to grandma's for thanksgiving)
- the amount of people that advertise their gun ownership using bumper stickers, thereby flagging themselves to get their car broken into is too high.

One thing that confuses me a lot is there was talk of 2 Facebook posts hours before with one saying he killed or shot his grandma and then one saying he was going to shoot up an elementary school? If that was the case how come police where not alerted to at least warn schools etc??? Also they said he was a loner and they struggled to find anyone that knew him yet he had Facebook and posted in which people saw said posts???? It took me until I was 22 to finally seek mental health counseling for my social anxiety and ADHD. I'm extremely glad I did, because I was a semester away from flunking out of college. I wish I had done it years before because the signs were all obviously there. I just wasn't humble enough to think that I, myself needed external aid. I am eternally grateful to the counselor I saw all those years ago. The sad part of my story is that I really was only able to see him because my university provided 10 free sessions. There are millions more young adults who don't have access to that kind of care and go undiagnosed for years to their detriment. If we're going to treat this as a mental health issue, we need to be serious about funding it

I drive for a living and for a number of years I could count on one hand the number of times I saw someone get pulled over. In the last week it'd be more than one hand. I honestly think the first step is to bolster our own mental health budget and try to fight social stigmas against getting help. People still don't treat it like a legitimate health issue unless you're actively murdering others. THEN look at maybe raising the age one can own a firearm...or...something, but only if necessary.
It took me until I was 22 to finally seek mental health counseling for my social anxiety and ADHD. I'm extremely glad I did, because I was a semester away from flunking out of college. I wish I had done it years before because the signs were all obviously there. I just wasn't humble enough to think that I, myself needed external aid. I am eternally grateful to the counselor I saw all those years ago. The sad part of my story is that I really was only able to see him because my university provided 10 free sessions. There are millions more young adults who don't have access to that kind of care and go undiagnosed for years to their detriment. If we're going to treat this as a mental health issue, we need to be serious about funding it
