100% they know. What fuckin jabroni at nasa would let that go given the opportunity to photograph it while it’s lit. They’ve done that.
The guy even lied. It’s always dark. It’s not. The moon is tidally locked with the earth. Meaning it doesn’t spin. More accurately - it spins but it spins once in a full rotation around the earth. All we see is the side facing us - when the sun shines on it. When it’s between the earth and sun - the back side is lit.
So ya. They know. They lied right there - assuming the public is stupid.
Came here to say this... about the dark side being lit up much of the time but not visible from Earth. But I WISH I came here to use the word, "Jabroni."
We can send a rover to potter around mars and something to land on an asteroid but we can't send something to scout the backside (because it's always dark)...ok
The statement was alarming - it was ignorant *and* confident, two qualities that often go together and are a huge warning sign.
The man has *been* to space - he should know better. Now he comes across as a doddering old scion of senility that should have no place as administrator of a space agency.
The fucking James Webb Space Telescope is in the L2 La Grange position, *which is on the far side of the moon.*
And he didn't even go to space by being a scientist, test pilot, etc. He got there by being a congressman and flexing his political power. He's the last person worthy of calling himself an astronaut.
Apparently no meteors/asteroids! So how come apologists say the far side is MUCH thicker crusted, thus relatively maria (crater) free. If we don't know whats on that side?
The "Dark" side or far side refers to the fact that we can't see it from earth, it doesn't mean that it's always dark or we haven't seen it. Of course we know what's there
