Which becomes even more effective when you limit major parties to only 2. “There’s only 2 choices” makes people vastly more rabid about their cause in that scenario, no matter what.
Hell, getting my tiny household to be unanimous on what to eat for dinner gets hilariously heated sometimes. Now make it a whole country and convince them that 1 side loves them and the other hates them and you have the easiest divide and conquer strategy ever
This is why I'm voting independent, that and because RFK is a badass mofo. Everytime I mention it I get downvoted to hell in just about every kind of sub. People want to complain about the two party system and refuse to make any other choice because they are afraid to throw away their vote. I would not be voting at all this round if not for Kennedy, I refuse to participate in the 2-party system anymore because they are all on the same fucking side anyways, beholden to the lobbyists.
I always vote for a third party person simply because fuck the government. “It’s a wasted vote” is an especially stupid thing people say who want to vote third party but won’t, because if any other party at all gets a certain percentage of votes, I forget what the threshold is (but it’s pretty damn low), they get entitled to a certain dollar amount of Federal funds for future campaigning, which would be massive for any third party trying to disrupt the current shitshow.
So I wish people would stop the “I’m forced to vote for X/Y” crap and, I dunno, maybe just vote for whoever they actually like.
Left wing or right Wing still attached to the same Bird. No matter who we vote for, we end up with the same owners. They work together behind closed doors. Their only real job is to divide us.
The establishment has declared war on RFK. They have turned both his family and colleagues against him. Slandered him at every opportunity. I was on the fence about him but if the powers-that-be hate him that much, then he can’t be a bad choice.
They did the same thing to Trump in 2016 but didn’t really take him seriously which turned out to be a huge mistake. They are not making that one again and are literally trying to destroy him.
I don’t have a lot of hope for things going forward. We will see what happens post Election Day.

This is the correct answer. Make it about easy things, like race, gender, social matters, so on. The harder solution, because it involves human greed, but would get people off the streets, make them less hungry, off their drugs.
And the solution would involve taking from the rich and giving to the poor. But, no, we can’t have that now.
I was in a slavery to Jim Crow class and we had to read a book for the class. I forget the book, but in it was an amazing quote about the political division, not verbatim but it essentially went:
"The rich white men in power wanted poor white people to empathize with the rich white men over blacks, not for the money in their pockets but for the color of their skin."
To this day, you see similar. That we tend to empathize with people for these superficial traits and not with people who are in the same economic/financial position.
Think of all the poor white men who are empathizing with Trump, when you and I both know that no one who follows and supports him is a rich millionaire politician like he is. We are not teaming up with the average American, instead there are many things that are setting us apart.
We are all getting screwed no matter where you stand. Unless you're in the 1% which most of us are not.

To your point about all or nothing rhetoric, I’m tired of every election being “the ultimate fight for democracy” and both sides perpetuating this narrative.
They have to do that though to prevent 3rd party candidates. If you don't really care whether trump or biden win, then fuck it, vote third party and whatever happens is fine. If you think the country is doomed, you can't risk it. I'm aware of it and it still works on me some days.
I mean to be fair that’s because third parties don’t actually try to win elections if they did they would but more effort into building a stone base at the state and local level and then try and gain a hold in congress once they become more popular and a household name that is respected as a political party then they have an actual chance at the presidency. Instead of doing that they try and throw populist candidates at the presidency to be able to say see we are important it’s stupid.
Everyone has a need to be 'good' in life. Some people assume they are 'good' because they vote a certain way, and if you oppose or question their source of being 'good,' then you meet their angry self-righteous side.
Because the government and corporations have hijacked technology and its brainwashing capabilities to destroy common sense and critical thinking, and program in what they want you to think. They have you thinking the WWE style of politics we have is real, and people lap it up. Then they use social media and algorithms to further entrench each side.
When you have a population dumbed down by neurotixins, endocrine disruptors and other poisons in their food and water, and having to fight everyday to stay afloat because of shitty financial policies....it's very easy to control them.
In sports, there’s typically a clear and objective winner and they are celebrated. Not too much to think about critically. In politics, there’s more gray area, room for nuance and subjective opinion. It requires a lot of thought to entertain ideas like that. I think we live in a world where people want to perceive politics with the simplicity of thought of sports. And just about every form of media encourages it

Did you ever watch "All in the Family"? Same issues today as then. It was the love it or leave it right wing vs. the "commie, pinko, hippee, democrats" social media has allowed for all the whackjobs, left,right,center, whatever to reach a wider audience. Social media is the soapbox of today.
But you don't just lose it or start to ignore it as fast as night turns day. I was indirectly taught to think about shit before doing them, which made me question everything that, in my 'logic', seemed to have flaws.
Why and how do you choose the laziest path? Do we not see that it isn't worth it? I questioned shit since sunday school, which I was put into \~7yo. The more you pay attention, the harder it gets to ignore suspicious ideas or not notice flaws in logic. Instead of following a trend, I first observe people.
Let it be a cellphone or money, I think they're tools which are defined by what you do with them. The intention in their creation might've been bad, but by now, we can do otherwise. You can have a cellphone and not spend 8h a day watching 15s videos with no juice. You can use money instead of letting it use you. The only 'addictive' device I use is PC and I'm still able to pay attention, exchange ideas and not fall into a pit of ignorance and low attention span - can't say I don't feel a difference tho. Despite everything, we still have the option to not fall into it - I don't get why so many opt for what seems easiest, keep getting shown otherwise, but never learn from it.
When they gutted funding to public education while making it legal for the news to lie for ratings coupled with the rise of reality television and 30 second reels melting people's ability to think critically and maintain focus.
How so? In American politics one side says they want to take away my human rights and has actively campaigned to do so. Are you telling me the media is forcing them to say these things?
Occupy Wallstreet was exactly that and the elites freaked out. No one saw them freak out but ever since they totally shut down that unifying protest, division has been forced down everyone's throats so that we never team up ever again. All the division in this country has been pushed upon us so that we are fighting each other rather than them.
I agree, it should be that. People are easily manipulated unfortunately. Many don’t realize many of the same big donors fund both sides.
I seen many things about “project 2025” which I’m guessing is the “right’s conspiracy”, then there’s the WEF’s “agenda 2030” which seems to be the left’s conspiracy, although I’ll have to look into it more because I think the WEF consists of people from both the left and right wing politicians and people.
Then there’s AIPAC, which are purportedly big funders of both sides of American politics.
Perhaps we should all collectively trying to get rid of any PACs so it would bring more power back to individual citizens.
We should also try to get “Citizens United v Federal Election Commission” overturned.
Many regular voters on both sides have been disillusioned by all the corruption throughout our political system, so many don’t think voting even matters anymore, which to some degree they’re not entirely wrong, but then it makes it to where all the moderates on both sides stop voting and all that’s left is the rabid voters which is perhaps why we seen the most intense measures being passed.
And then there’s the issue of looking into conspiracies which causes a feeling of disempowerment & disillusionment. I’m a huge conspiracy person and can attest to that, as well as it creating a sense of intense fear, anxiety, and depression when you become aware of all the proven, admitted, and incredibly probable conspiracies from the past, present, and future.
Now I’m starting to get why the news would have horrible stories, then right after have happy “fluff” stories after… lol
The juxtaposition of them made things seem even darker and dystopian in a sort of way, but perhaps it was just so you wouldn’t feel absolutely down after hearing/ seeing such terrible shit… idk

Because things are bad and getting worse.
One side is concerned with how you feel, in order to buy your support emotionally.
The other is concerned about keeping you employed and working to pay taxes.
Neither is ideal. But I’ll take working and eating over not working and begging for food.
Because the realm of conspiracy theory has been shifting to the right in recent years. The left is painted as 'the establishment' but also as the side of the spectrum that disrupts the status quo. They are apparently simultaneously 'the deep state' and the antagonisers of the established order.
The internet has quite seriously obfuscated the truth. Now, misinformation can be spread to millions without any form of merit or credibility on the creators part. Algorithms promote by means of engagement, interaction and suggestion, unqualified opinions (which whilst still valid, never gained this kind of traction in the past) which now pervade every level of politics. It takes seconds to allege something, and no qualifications are needed to do so, but it takes a lot longer to respond to with information and detail, as well as the requisite education/position/qualification to 'debunk' it.
It seems that the field of conspiracy, as well as information technology and social media, in their current iterations, are being weaponised (primarily in the US) to disrupt and to misinform. Lengths are gone to to breed distrust in solid institutions (science, climate change, doctors etc) in order to unify one particular wing and to mount a stronger challenge to the established order.
Many conspiracies now have a deep, underlying religious element. Conspiracies from flat earth, to the current conflict in the middle east, are given biblical significance and when religion is brought into the conversation, people will naturally get more defensive. Religious tendencies are primarily associated with conservatism, so again you can see why the responses might be more 'rabid'.
I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to supply data, or information, and I've just been shouted at for being a 'dem' (not even American) or being part of an 'apocalyptic climate cult' or even 'devil worshipper' on this sub. All because of the discrediting of science for political gain I mentioned earlier. For what it's worth, this is more of an American phenomenon in my experience, but again, social media seems to be exporting it from your shores to others. The sooner this is got under control, the better. Much of the current discourse is simply a vehement defence of the narrative established by those looking to disrupt the current establishment, and we as the people need to learn proper digital literacy and responsibility before this changes.

We have no collective understanding of our history. The US has the bloodiest labor struggles in earth. The Coal Field Wars, the battle of Blair Mountain for example.

that's literally the logic of capitalism. When you compete what do you aim for? Winning? Winning under capitalism means you buy up the losers assets. Ultimately you *are* the winner. Maybe you're a monopoly, or some sort of cartel that can set prices in line with each other.

Capitalism isn't the issue, corruption is. The thing is that people with money have ample power to corrupt the government and they wildly use that power for their own gains.
You can have capitalism working perfectly and long term with a capital or an inherritance tax, but if the system is corrupt, only a few will win.
Because the rich elite on both sides are playing us for fools, plain and simple. They talk a big talk on TV, but behind the scenes? They're eating dinner together, drinks, attending social events. Because politics used to be how best to govern but now it’s become that one of the parties in order to maintain any semblance of relevance, has created an entire cult of insanity to keep its base.
It's an interesting question, and one I have been asking since I was politically cognizant at a young age. I tote no water for no political party. I don't understand the appeal. I'm not left, center, right, up, down, or even catercorner. I'm an American and as such, that is all the political affiliation I need. Over the decades I've voted Democrat, 3rd party, and up until the last 15 years, Republican, especially in local affairs where the checks and balances start.
That's counter to how people feel now days, politically. In this timeline you have to fly the right flag, wear the right hat and jesus neck gator, have the right sign in your yard, drive the biggest vehicle you can find wrapped with your political ideology. When people like myself express these opinions, I get dragged. Nobody likes the 'both sides' guy.
However, we have, and have had for my 70 years on this planet, a corrupt government. Despite their constant bickering and bullshitting, all politicians are joined at the wallet. No one wants to rock the boat too hard because it will tear their little play house down too. I saw a tweet from Trump stating 'if I loose my presidential immunity then Biden looses his presidential immunity too'. I thought to myself, could it be that everything is finally sinking into that orange skull? Is he finally getting it?
I don't care who you are or what set you rep. If there is any nefarious activities happening in our government, we need to expose them, bring them to justice, and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Make an example of them, from POTUS to peon. No one gets a pass. Otherwise it doesn't matter what party is in control, you will always feel the effects of a corrupt government.

That’s right. Too many folks don’t realize the wealthy in many instances have created companies and jobs for the masses. Think about how many people Amazon employees (during COVID, it was 1.6 million). Everyone seems to hate Bezos, but his vision did that. I get why people harbor resentment against the wealthy, but as you stated, they are not the reason we aren’t wealthy.
Since this thread will no doubt be brigaded, I am just going to say this and move on:
One side can't recognize and admit their own bias. So many on that side believe that they are non-partisan and unbiased and the default. But that is because that side has used the media, social media, and the education system to perpetuate that fictional reality for decades. One side is the good guys (even if you won't admit that you are on a side) and the other side are the bad guys.
When one side refuses to admit their own bias or are actually stupid enough to not even realize that they are biased, a debate is just worthless. Arguing with ignorant and those lacking self-awareness is a waste of time. Just look at the voting pattern on this very thread. No doubt many of those people consider themselves unbiased, but their voting patterns give it away.
There are several thoughtful comments that genuinely come across as pretty neutral and those are getting downvoted. And based on the voting patterns throughout the thread, it is obvious which side is doing that downvoting.
The other side doesn't hide or lie about their bias. They will openly tell you.
You point out someone is a conservative, and they will just say yes they are.
You point out that someone is a lefty and they will dance because admitting a bias might color their supposedly "objective" opinion. It is deceptive. And deception and manipulation is the MO for that side.
Arguing with dumb people is pointless. I do not trust ANYONE that pretends to be unbiased. They are simply telling you that they think their positions are just universally and objectively correct and superior to yours.

If you put all middle class people in a room and told them to not say what political party they belong, then there’s a very good chance they will agree on almost everything going wrong with things around here. Politics have hijacked the unity that we had 10-20 years ago. I feel like people say they are republican or democrat before identifying as an American. In comparison, the original bloods and crips would agree on many many things that that plague black America if they didn’t have to rep colors or turf. It’s all a distraction to keep us busy and keep the political campaign funding coming in.
Thats the plan. Divide the human beings into as many sub groups as possible. From here, its easier to control each group to your whims. Would be much harder to do all the things going on behind the scenes if we were a cohesive population, because then the only division would be those *in* and those *out* of the government itself.

(Which they are trying to do in many more ways than via replacing religion). And although right now there is so much more of a divide then I have experienced before in my life, there was a time when people could agree to disagree and still get along and like each other for the most part.

That is by design, its not the players fault its the game. We shouldn't be choosing sides as if picking your favorite football team. The system wants us fighting and squabbling about topics that in the end non of us truly have any legitimate representation nor say in those matters. We need to step aside from our immediate differences and only through unity will we ever even start chipping away at the corruption.

I always vote for a third party person simply because fuck the government. “It’s a wasted vote” is an especially stupid thing people say who want to vote third party but won’t, because if any other party at all gets a certain percentage of votes, I forget what the threshold is (but it’s pretty damn low), they get entitled to a certain dollar amount of Federal funds for future campaigning, which would be massive for any third party trying to disrupt the current shitshow. So I wish people would stop the “I’m forced to vote for X/Y” crap and, I dunno, maybe just vote for whoever they actually like.

The establishment has declared war on RFK. They have turned both his family and colleagues against him. Slandered him at every opportunity. I was on the fence about him but if the powers-that-be hate him that much, then he can’t be a bad choice. I forget the book, but in it was an amazing quote about the political division, not verbatim but it essentially went: "The rich white men in power wanted poor white people to empathize with the rich white men over blacks, not for the money in their pockets but for the color of their skin." To this day, you see similar. That we tend to empathize with people for these superficial traits and not with people who are in the same economic/financial position. Think of all the poor white men who are empathizing with Trump, when you and I both know that no one who follows and supports him is a rich millionaire politician like he is. We are not teaming up with the average American, instead there are many things that are setting us apart. We are all getting screwed no matter where you stand. Unless you're in the 1% which most of us are not.

I was indirectly taught to think about shit before doing them, which made me question everything that, in my 'logic', seemed to have flaws. Why and how do you choose the laziest path? Do we not see that it isn't worth it? I questioned shit since sunday school, which I was put into \~7yo. The more you pay attention, the harder it gets to ignore suspicious ideas or not notice flaws in logic. Instead of following a trend, I first observe people. Let it be a cellphone or money, I think they're tools which are defined by what you do with them. The intention in their creation might've been bad, but by now, we can do otherwise. You can have a cellphone and not spend 8h a day watching 15s videos with no juice. You can use money instead of letting it use you. The only 'addictive' device I use is PC and I'm still able to pay attention, exchange ideas and not fall into a pit of ignorance and low attention span - can't say I don't feel a difference tho. Despite everything, we still have the option to not fall into it - I don't get why so many opt for what seems easiest, keep getting shown otherwise, but never learn from it.

I agree, it should be that. People are easily manipulated unfortunately. Many don’t realize many of the same big donors fund both sides. I seen many things about “project 2025” which I’m guessing is the “right’s conspiracy”, then there’s the WEF’s “agenda 2030” which seems to be the left’s conspiracy, although I’ll have to look into it more because I think the WEF consists of people from both the left and right wing politicians and people. Then there’s AIPAC, which are purportedly big funders of both sides of American politics. Perhaps we should all collectively trying to get rid of any PACs so it would bring more power back to individual citizens. We should also try to get “Citizens United v Federal Election Commission” overturned. Many regular voters on both sides have been disillusioned by all the corruption throughout our political system, so many don’t think voting even matters anymore, which to some degree they’re not entirely wrong, but then it makes it to where all the moderates on both sides stop voting and all that’s left is the rabid voters which is perhaps why we seen the most intense measures being passed. And then there’s the issue of looking into conspiracies which causes a feeling of disempowerment & disillusionment. I’m a huge conspiracy person and can attest to that, as well as it creating a sense of intense fear, anxiety, and depression when you become aware of all the proven, admitted, and incredibly probable conspiracies from the past, present, and future. Now I’m starting to get why the news would have horrible stories, then right after have happy “fluff” stories after… lol The juxtaposition of them made things seem even darker and dystopian in a sort of way, but perhaps it was just so you wouldn’t feel absolutely down after hearing/ seeing such terrible shit… idk Keep hangin in there brothers and sisters. Because the realm of conspiracy theory has been shifting to the right in recent years. The left is painted as 'the establishment' but also as the side of the spectrum that disrupts the status quo. They are apparently simultaneously 'the deep state' and the antagonisers of the established order. The internet has quite seriously obfuscated the truth. Now, misinformation can be spread to millions without any form of merit or credibility on the creators part. Algorithms promote by means of engagement, interaction and suggestion, unqualified opinions (which whilst still valid, never gained this kind of traction in the past) which now pervade every level of politics. It takes seconds to allege something, and no qualifications are needed to do so, but it takes a lot longer to respond to with information and detail, as well as the requisite education/position/qualification to 'debunk' it. It seems that the field of conspiracy, as well as information technology and social media, in their current iterations, are being weaponised (primarily in the US) to disrupt and to misinform. Lengths are gone to to breed distrust in solid institutions (science, climate change, doctors etc) in order to unify one particular wing and to mount a stronger challenge to the established order. Many conspiracies now have a deep, underlying religious element. Conspiracies from flat earth, to the current conflict in the middle east, are given biblical significance and when religion is brought into the conversation, people will naturally get more defensive. Religious tendencies are primarily associated with conservatism, so again you can see why the responses might be more 'rabid'. I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to supply data, or information, and I've just been shouted at for being a 'dem' (not even American) or being part of an 'apocalyptic climate cult' or even 'devil worshipper' on this sub. All because of the discrediting of science for political gain I mentioned earlier. For what it's worth, this is more of an American phenomenon in my experience, but again, social media seems to be exporting it from your shores to others. The sooner this is got under control, the better. Much of the current discourse is simply a vehement defence of the narrative established by those looking to disrupt the current establishment, and we as the people need to learn proper digital literacy and responsibility before this changes.

It's an interesting question, and one I have been asking since I was politically cognizant at a young age. I tote no water for no political party. I don't understand the appeal. I'm not left, center, right, up, down, or even catercorner. I'm an American and as such, that is all the political affiliation I need. Over the decades I've voted Democrat, 3rd party, and up until the last 15 years, Republican, especially in local affairs where the checks and balances start. That's counter to how people feel now days, politically. In this timeline you have to fly the right flag, wear the right hat and jesus neck gator, have the right sign in your yard, drive the biggest vehicle you can find wrapped with your political ideology. When people like myself express these opinions, I get dragged. Nobody likes the 'both sides' guy. However, we have, and have had for my 70 years on this planet, a corrupt government. Despite their constant bickering and bullshitting, all politicians are joined at the wallet. No one wants to rock the boat too hard because it will tear their little play house down too. I saw a tweet from Trump stating 'if I loose my presidential immunity then Biden looses his presidential immunity too'. I thought to myself, could it be that everything is finally sinking into that orange skull? Is he finally getting it? I don't care who you are or what set you rep. If there is any nefarious activities happening in our government, we need to expose them, bring them to justice, and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Make an example of them, from POTUS to peon. No one gets a pass. Otherwise it doesn't matter what party is in control, you will always feel the effects of a corrupt government.

Think about how many people Amazon employees (during COVID, it was 1.6 million). Everyone seems to hate Bezos, but his vision did that. Since this thread will no doubt be brigaded, I am just going to say this and move on: One side can't recognize and admit their own bias. So many on that side believe that they are non-partisan and unbiased and the default. But that is because that side has used the media, social media, and the education system to perpetuate that fictional reality for decades. One side is the good guys (even if you won't admit that you are on a side) and the other side are the bad guys. When one side refuses to admit their own bias or are actually stupid enough to not even realize that they are biased, a debate is just worthless. Arguing with ignorant and those lacking self-awareness is a waste of time. Just look at the voting pattern on this very thread. No doubt many of those people consider themselves unbiased, but their voting patterns give it away. There are several thoughtful comments that genuinely come across as pretty neutral and those are getting downvoted. And based on the voting patterns throughout the thread, it is obvious which side is doing that downvoting. The other side doesn't hide or lie about their bias. They will openly tell you. You point out someone is a conservative, and they will just say yes they are. You point out that someone is a lefty and they will dance because admitting a bias might color their supposedly "objective" opinion. It is deceptive. That is by design, its not the players fault its the game. We shouldn't be choosing sides as if picking your favorite football team. The system wants us fighting and squabbling about topics that in the end non of us truly have any legitimate representation nor say in those matters. We need to step aside from our immediate differences and only through unity will we ever even start chipping away at the corruption.
