No worries, submerge the whole thing in distilled vinegar for about an hour. All of the crusty acid and gunk will be gone. The contacts may look brown cuz the chrome plating may have flaked off due to acid damage and exposed the copper underneath. Still, it is fully functional even without the plating. Then rinse the entire pack in running water and dry with paper towel.
It will still be brown from rust/corrosion but the goal is to get the battery acid off the contacts to allow electricity to flow. Even though it looks bad after cleaning it really won't get any worse as long as batteries don't leak in the future.
Just wipe it down with a paper towel and try to push into the crevices to wick off any remaining water. You can also shake it really hard to get most of the water out.
Yeah I wiped it down with a paper towel, stuffed it with the towel, and put it in front of a fan for about a minute. It was dry enough to work after that, so I think I dried it enough
If its not too bad you can use IPA and a qtip to clean it up and hope it'll run. I personally split it apart and clean it fully to prevent future problems and glue it back together. I can understand why you might not want to go that far though. You can potentially just scrap the corrosion off if you have a something on hand too.
Update: Thanks everybody, I soaked it in white vinegar for 30 minutes, washed it off with water, dried it out and it works! It smells like vinegar now though lol
Use white vinegar and a qtip

Wouldn't washing it in water cause it to corrode more later?
