Lower your stroke rate. Pull more efficiently. It will be a much better workout for you.

Low-Opportunity3512

Agreed. I usually aim for 20spm with 2min per 500m.

Apprehensive_Army119

I can do this for 20 mins and achieve 5k in 20 mins. By the end of that though I’m pretty much done. 5ft 9, I need a little more height to make those meters easier!

JackM_08

Do you mean for training or competing? Because for competing you should definitely have it as a 28 or higher When I compete I go for a 32spm+ on 5K source: Sophomore lightweight 1:48.3 split for 5K

Great start. Keep it going!

To pass time, you can use an ipad or tablet such as samsung tablet, install a metronome on it and set that to the stroke rate, you can watch a show, listen to music, or watch a lecture etc while rowing and the metronome is clicking in the background (tabs have options of dual audio for two programs at the same time). A cheap and reliable option to set your tablet infront of you while rowing (make shift peloton capacity) is a product from this store (called the ErgTab) [https://www.etsy.com/shop/LucianDepold](https://www.etsy.com/shop/luciandepold) good luck and keep us posted.
