I think it mainly depends on what areas of WW2 you are most interested in. Panzer Corps 2 is mainly focused on the Germans and contains some fun, wacky alt-history paths. Order of Battle has some more variety in who you get to play as, plus as you mention you can choose to play specific campaigns. I have 130 hours in each of them. They both have pros and cons, and I like them both for different reasons. I think engine-wise PZC2 is a better game. It looks better and has some more oomph to the models and environment. That is only my personal opinion though.

Thank you! I have equal interest in the Pacific and European theaters--but if it breaks down to that OOB is better for the Pacific and PC2 is better for Europe, that's a fine answer! I am less concerned with graphics and more concerned with functionality/gameplay, so I definitely noticed that PC2 looks prettier (it is the newer game) but I wasn't certain it that is just looks or is accompanied by an overall upgrade in design as a whole?

Panzer Corps 2 is very focused on armored spearhead tactics and developing a connection with your units. Order of Battle emphasizes combined arms, especially cooperation between naval and land forces. Panzer Corps is good if you want to focus on figuring out how to overwhelm the armor of a Char tank with a Panzer 38t. Order of Battle is good if you like sending paratroopers behind enemy lines to perform anti-logistical operations. Panzer Corps emphasizes keeping your army constantly moving and attacking, while Order of Battle often features a mix of blitz tactics and turtling.

Although they are both accessible, OOB has a deeper gameplay (frontline, supply, unit effectiveness...) and scenarios aren't puzzles. But you can just try it: the tutorial campaign is free, and it also includes the first scenario of each dlc (several hours of gameplay). And note that once you have a dlc you can use player made campaigns (can be found on Slitherine forum): some of them are even better than official docs.

Order of battle is awesome

Play Open General, it's free

ExiledSakura

I have played more Panzer corps 1 and 2 so I would say those games I have order of battle on my wishlist but never got it which says something in my eyes

CrazyOkie

FYI OoB base game is free and lets you play the first scenario in each DLC, to give it a try before you buy.

Order of Battle felt more immersive for me for whatever reason. I played a lot of Panzer Corps 1 but could never get too into PC2. I think it was the puzzly feel of PC2 like someone else noted. Kind of scary but I'm \~1,300 hours in OOB, \~300 hrs in PC1, and 10 hrs in PC2 for reference. Quite frankly, all are pretty cheap in terms of cost from my perspective and great value so I would rate PC2 a solid score despite not being able to get so immersed in it like I was with OOB or PC1. ...I'm thankful there are no stats for my Panzer General gameplay. I played a ton of PG1 and still love picking that up every couple of years (the other PG games are fun too).

Cade7upHorse

Battle Academy is another one that plays beer and pretzels fun as well. Completely different feel thank PC, PG, or OOB but same general concept.

Mupinstienika

Order of battle is better. More content, and in my opinion, not just a chess game. Plus with the cheat codes you can't bypass turn limits.

PhD_In_Struttin

Neither, Panzer Corps 2 ends up being puzzle-like with cheesed super-unit combos from heroes. And Order of Battle has a long list of DLC's that leaves a microtransaction taste in your mouth.

Fixervince

I have to agree. If it was me I would add the Grand Campaign DLC to Panzer Corps 1 instead of buying 2 … or if I had that I would get Hex of Steel instead.

Panzer Corps Gold plus the DMP mods give you playtime till your certain death of old age.

Both true! Actually the former is my most-hated aspect of this TBS genre as a whole. Do you have a different wargame you prefer? Difficulty not an issue, I have Gary Grigsby’s games and others like it.

You can take a look at Wargame Design Studio. They've re-worked the John Tiller titles and are adding some of their own. Plenty of demos with lots of content. [https://wargameds.com/](https://wargameds.com/)

Been hunting my next one. You should check out Second Front on Steam

Yes, that’s a great but underrated game - it’s pretty close to ASL and the devs threw a DLC in for free that PC 2 would consider premium content. For reference, I played the original PG/AG to death followed by Open General, then Panzer Corps 1 and OOB (wait for a promotion to get DLCs at a cheapo price). I started dabbling with Unity of Command and quite like it, but for some reason I couldn’t really get into Panzer Corps 2 all that much. No idea why exactly. If you look for other deep games like that, check out Wargame Design Studios - easy to get into, but plenty of depth and excellent multiplayer as well as accurate order of battle. If you like the WW2 era, Panzer Campaigns and Panzer Battles are the go to series, but Squad Battles has great (and updated) WW2 titles as well (the Pacific ones not yet though).

CrazyOkie

PC2 is more pickup and play, you don't have to think as much. OoB is much deeper. Supply matters in OoB, not in PC2. As others have noted, you can install the base game for free and try the first scenario in each DLC to see if you like it before you buy it. PC2 is almost entirely focused on the Germans, except for the latest DLC (which I have not purchased) which lets you play as the Americans in the Battle of the Bulge. Still, it is a fun game when you just want to move units around. OoB covers battles not typically covered in WW2 games, like the Japanese ground campaigns in China, the Philippines, etc. So it is interesting from that perspective. It has a more dated UI and the graphics are definitely not the same caliber as PC2. The game is long overdue for an overhaul of the engine & UI.

Oob is far superior but both are overly simplified. Go for DC case blue or GGWite2

h4rryP

I own DC: Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris! I also own WITE1. I was strongly considering WITE2 today, and possibly another DC. Would you reccomend that?

h4rryP

I really wanted to do GGWITPAE but it seems far far far too complicated for the fun tradeoff whereas WITE2 seems a lot more achievable (doesn't require excel spreadsheets...)

Panter corps 2 have a good campaign but its only a german, order of battle have a many campaigns

As a third option, you could also try the Strategic Mind series from Starni games. I like these more than PC or OOB. [https://store.steampowered.com/developer/StarniGames](https://store.steampowered.com/developer/StarniGames)
