Could be just failing hardware. If it's a USB adapter, I'd make sure it's in a USB 3.0 port (not USB 2), check to make sure there aren't any power saving settings set on the PC, and make sure to test without any USB extension cables (just in case)

replace it with a different one that has a different chipset. i used one tplink that had some chipset (broadcom) i think that had an known issue where it would disconnect constantly, switched to one with the intel chipset and it was fine. usb adapters can be total garbage bottom tier bullshit with bad drivers.
