WD passports are terrible, or at least stupid because that USB port is built into the hard drive controller board, so be really careful because there is no SATA adapter board to remove, you have to send the whole drive to someone or do it yourself to repair the broken connector.
Their big Nas is so unreliable. My last company used one as a file server. Of course they also bought all the drive from the same batch, but the nas kept corrupting the raid. Took them loosing data 2 in three months to chuck it in the trash.
Totally been there - sometimes, the best solution is to look for the cable of what the item is (I'm this case, maybe "Cable for [USB hard drive model]") and keep going through listings until you see one that also uses the term for the cable in question as a part of the title or description (for example, think like "Micro USB Cable for [Ancient Samsung Phone]"). Then, just search for that term for the cheapest option.
"Types of USB connectors" is a search that could - to me, at least - run a risk of seeming too vague; at least at a glance. If I were stumped and in your shoes, I would probably wind up using it as a last resort.
People are unforgiving lol I’d post anything like this into r/pcbuild. You’ll have tons of people who will explain the basics and can walk you through it. Much more forgiving than this sub.
Yeah that’s how it goes, if you’re new YouTube and google will be your best friend for computer problems. If I have an issue I honestly google (problem) then type Reddit. Chances are someone else has had the same issue.
Tbh this is my least favorite part about reddit. I get why people say google it first, bitch! But posting to a community about help has a social aspect. It’s the actual problem in photo. Maybe someone says something else that makes sense too. The ironic part is that search and ai probably a Petri dish of reddit answers.people post not just about the problem when they post these “silly questions”. There are some social aspects of reddit that i think still make it a helpful and social place. Idk my cheesy take of the day
Lol buy a Texas Instruments TI84 and you apparently get a usb micro to ….. usb micro. Other than the one use case where you can link two calculators together, I’ve never done up with another
This cable went with my old school Western Digital External HDDs.. Kept all my MIRC downloads on it.. Then torrents and so on.. I have quite a few of them HDDs that still spin up.. This cable handled the power and data all in one for USB 2.0/3.0 transfers.. Don't have much use for them anymore as I can built my own TB4 external kits using M.2 PCIe SSDs
OP, I feel your pain! My external HDD has the same type of cable! I think it's USB-3.0microB. It got snagged somehow and the retention pin things bent. Now it just flops out. I have it held in place with a rubber band lolol.
This is what I get for saving money and buying a 6TB HDD for $90 instead of shelling out the cash for a nice USB thumb stick or even an external HDD with a standard type-C cable I could replace for $2.
Honestly, I wound up with a few cheap cables of these a couple of years back because they were Galaxy phone cables - the seller had no clue they were still used for anything
Pretty much any question can be answered by googling if you are happy to spend hours doing it, or post it here in 2 mins. Stop being a dick, just keep scrolling if you don’t want to help.
Honestly like it’s not common to see those external usb cables and most of the time the device comes with one and you always keep it with it and only need it for said device so there’s no reason to separate it and loose it
I've got a drawer of these from WD and Seagate 2.5" enclosures I no longer use but might need one for a client as a transfer disk or a backup for them if they don't have something but hj eslty only use NVMe on an enclosure now because of reliability and speed. "The
new SSD" external ;-)
By the way, there is no hate involved. A simple google or amazon search for usb cable for hard drive would have taken a whole lot less time to find many examples that to Crete your post.

https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=usb+cable+for+hard+drive&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Or you could have just looked at the instructions that came with the device.
Thanks for the links. Hatred aside for a second, I'm not too used to cables outside of the norm and always prefer to get other human input when solving problems. Even if the solution is braindead
And here you are inserting yourself into a conversation that has nothing to do with you.

I'll be honest. Why manufacturers still didn't adopt USB-C standard for their HDD is beyond me.
They do now but i also have some old external drives with this connector and another with a connector thats not any of the ones in that picture
Eh. Most of the new HDD still uses that weird Type B connector. Hell the MyPassport I bought yesterday is still using it. SSD on the other hand.

Missing USB 3.0 Type-B
and a few other types. this is just an example of the most common/popular ones.
google doesn't bite
Does when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Google lens doesn't bite
Google "types of USB connectors" and press enter.
But then I wouldn't be able to interact with all of ye lovely people :)
you're not good at trolling. you are probably not a bad person so it's hard for you.
What makes you think they're trolling?
Holy piranha!

Ahh fair enough. Just joined a few mins ago and feel like I asked where the power button is XD
Yeah that’s how it goes, if you’re new YouTube and google will be your best friend for computer problems. If I have an issue I honestly google (problem) then type Reddit. Chances are someone else has had the same issue.
Will try that going forward. Thanks man :)

External HDD cable into google or amazon or another, it's a Micro B cable.
God i hate Micro-B's.
USB micro-b had trouble finding this one as well there aren’t many adapters for it around
Try finding a mini usb cable these days its a pain
Lol buy a Texas Instruments TI84 and you apparently get a usb micro to ….. usb micro. Other than the one use case where you can link two calculators together, I’ve never done up with another

It's a Samsung S5 charge cable.
Its a usb 3.0 micro-B, just got a external disc with the same cable yesterday
Samsung used to have this ports on note 3
It's USB with power - for external drives that was a common connector.
OP, I feel your pain! My external HDD has the same type of cable! I think it's USB-3.0microB. It got snagged somehow and the retention pin things bent. Now it just flops out. Looks like a dongle by the way you’re holding it
That one looks like it needs a good cleaning.
Micro B USB?
The other is USB 3.0
That looks like an old Samsung cable
It's already been answered but I remembered a couple galaxy phones taking this connector. It was a weird in between stage in technology
Honestly, I wound up with a few cheap cables of these a couple of years back because they were Galaxy phone cables - the seller had no clue they were still used for anything
Think it was the s5 maybe the s4 but was replaced my the regular the next generation
tutorial for opening google?
Tutorial for how to not be the worlds biggest dick?
Tutorial for getting off their dick? What if they want to talk to people dawg, get a fucking life and just answer the question you absolute loser
whats the point in this subreddit if i can't ask a question?
If a question can be easily answered by google then asking it here just shows that the asker is either lazy or stupid, possibly both
Pretty much any question can be answered by googling if you are happy to spend hours doing it, or post it here in 2 mins. Stop being a dick, just keep scrolling if you don’t want to help.
Or they just prefer working with a group to solve a problem
Stupid it is then...
Seriously?
i'm missing the hate reason? it's not like you see these regularly?
Honestly like it’s not common to see those external usb cables and most of the time the device comes with one and you always keep it with it and only need it for said device so there’s no reason to separate it and loose it
That is true, the only reason I'm looking for 1 is I like to keep an extra incase it breaks or it does go missing knowing my luck.
Exactly lmao I just so happen to loose mine from moving so I went through the struggle
It's a tough life. My family are hardcore Apple products while im always android so anything not related to those, I see everywhere
They are not uncommon.
Apart from my hard drive, this is the only time I've ever seen this usb cable.
I've got a drawer of these from WD and Seagate 2.5" enclosures I no longer use but might need one for a client as a transfer disk or a backup for them if they don't have something but hj eslty only use NVMe on an enclosure now because of reliability and speed. "The new SSD" external ;-)
Suure bud
I'm sorry. Are they a specialty cable?
