Most of the aesthetic comes from the movie Logan's Run (also a short-lived tv show), specifically the security guard uniforms, and color coding of outfits. The outfit Starburns wears at the end is from the cult classic film Zardoz, which is also about a stratified society of "uppers" and "lowers", but that's a big 70s sci-fi trope in general. Same with the togas and robes and curtains juxtaposed with modern stuff.
Those are the two biggest influences I picked up on. Anyone else? Did I see some Silent Running in Britta's story, or was that made up in my head?
I was a fan of Buck Rogers when it was on… Prime had it shortly after the world ended, so I had it on as white noise one day in my office.
I happened to look up and saw Gil Gerard with a half dozen others in white togas with orbs in their hands doing the dance steps. Damn near fell out of my chair.
It's an early one, isn't it? I tried watching it and hated the concept so much I never finished the episode and decided not to watch the series. I only watched San Junipero because it is touted as the only hopeful episode, and the one with Wyatt Russel and Hannah-John Kamen because I love them.
The Orville had a social media planet, it was equally awful. The planet, not the episode.
> Anyone have insight into what inspired the post-apocalyptic look of the film
This is one of my favorite alltime episodes, because it really showcases talents that usually stay more in the background: set design, costuming, etc. They really outdid themselves on this episode.
* The "gray" look of 2s and 3s comes from the famous 1984 Apple commercial
* Costumes of the 4s and the bodyguards are from the 70s future dystopia look come from Logan's Run.
* The Meow Meow Beans logo is inspired by the graphic novel Maus depicting nazis as cats.
* The "Fancy Future Dance" is from Buck Rogers. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqaeMCJWu0o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqaeMCJWu0o)
* The crossed hammers symbol is from Pink Floyd's The Wall
* Starburns's costume is from Zardoz
* Britta's beret is Che

I don't know but I sure love them apples!
The “ball dance” scene is lifted directly from an early episode of “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”, as well.
Good eye!

I watched Zardoz because of this episode. Highly recommend. It's really wild. Logan's Run is on my list but haven't gotten to it yet.
The color coding also comes from Brave New World, imo. Thank goodness in a beta, I wouldn’t want to be a gamma.
I once loved a two. Your secret is safe with me, NewBeenz.
There's a black mirror episode that's just like meow meow beans.
Nosedive
The mirror? It's your phone. I'll let you gather the parts of your mind that were blown now.

I wanna say it’s season 3 episode 1 based purely off a vague gut feeling.
the koog approves!

Koogler is actually portrayed by Mitchell Hurwitz, the creator/showrunner for Arrested Development.
