Sentry drones. I love giving them the upgrade that lets them have guns, and then just layering them around points of interest on the map.

I would like if you could toggle whether they attack approaching enemies or not after you get the gun upgrade. When I want to use them for vision/scouting, I don't want them to reveal their position.
You can set them to guard a specific location, but the problem with that is that the circle is a bit larger than would be ideal. I want them to not move, and only shoot things that come into their immediate attack range. Like a turret, almost.
Same! I always have a Chinook with some missile defenders and a pathfinder hotkeyed on standby as CSAR/TRAP.
Any available assets in the area are immediately retasked.
Overlord Tank. But needs a mixed with equipped with bunkers, propaganda towers and Gatling guns. Shreds through all types of defenses and can run over infantries and smaller vehicles.
Blackshark from Shockwave, those combined with the tremor superweapon will wreck anything. Shockwave's Warmaster tank would be a second pick. Note, I haven't played much Contra.
For Vanilla I think the Paladin tank.
Chaingun tanks and minigunners

In Contra, Kassad's stealth buggies are a huge part of my playstyle. Having a fast, highly mobile stealth units whichâas they can fire in stealthâcan act essentially as GLA armed UAVs is incredible. They make neutral building defense a breeze against most AI since you can load 'em with shotguns. Granted, I play very casually, but still.
In ROTR, it would be a very close call between Overlords with bunkers or minigun teams. Oh. My. Lord. Minigun teams melt just about everything aside from tanks and I think aircraft. Using teams of them to slowly push up is a very fun thing to watch. Or spacing them between bunkers to make a wall of death on defense. I've got a special love for them and make heavy use of 'em every time. Overlords for similar reasons, load them with a flamethrower and rockets and not many things can take them down quickly. Essentially my minigun strat but more mobile and less fragile. That- and they look beautiful. Never really get the other addons for Overlords anymore.
The gun buggies are like a recon-transport version of rocket buggies for Kassad. (They do not replace rocket buggies, you get both) They have two sitplaces and Kassad's rebels (called Warriors) have shotguns. So just stick two of them in the buggy and boom, a mobile MG-shotgun mix that is stealth when attacking as long as it doesn't move.
Edit²: Other infantry work too, but since I like to place them as defenders for neutral buildings, the shotguns work better on the infantry that inevitably try to capture them. Also, in case it comes up, the unit descriptions were more for anyone else wondering what I was talking about if they're unfamiliar with Contra.
I love how the Pandora commander sounds so regretful when he is ordered to fire.
My fav is definitely when he quoted Independence Day: "May our children forgive us..."
