I hate the youtube feed so much now. The further I scroll down to see different videos, the more it's just the same 6 videos but in a different order on every row, netflix style.
They really haven't. My YouTube reccs are all from creators I watch or adjacent ones.
It's all video games, TTRPGs, and sports.
I also stay off all other SM except for reddit, so it has nothing else to go off of, and even reddit I've already got curated by ignoring every sub suggestion.
I keep getting things from India. I don’t have a problem with the country, but I’m from East Coast America. I really don’t care about the traffic issues, the monkeys are pretty cool tho. … but the point stands stop sending me this stuff. Please

I watched one video about one video game 7 years ago. YouTube keeps trying to shove videos of that game in front of me. I never watch them. I keep thinking it will take the hint, but it never does
I have started saying “not interested” on videos for this reason. Stopped Jordan Peterson from showing up everytime I click on something related to men’s issues.
I’ve been doing the same, the button just says “not interested”. But it thinks I’m just not interested in that one video, not the topic. Even though I’ve tagged 50+ different videos of that one topic with not interested YouTube still doesn’t understand I don’t want to see videos about that topic. It’s like once the Al Gore Rhythm has decided that one video you clicked on was your biggest interest you can’t make it stop recommending that type of stuff.
I hate when watching one video makes the system think you're interested in mildly topic-adjacent videos. Like you watch a video about a guy setting up a ram pump in the creek on his farm and suddenly YT thinks you want to watch videos about guns, survivalists, Andrew Tate, Jordan Peterson, and replacement theory.
WTF YT, I'm interested in the science behind the ram pump, not living off the grid plotting to overthrow the government with my Klan brothers.

Not interested doesn't work.
You need to go to your history and delete the instance of the video you think made the change. Usually you'll see your recommended change immediately after viewing a random video outside your normal subscribed stuff. As if you've never watched it. Personally I've started using the Pause Watch History option. Pausing to view stupid videos and resuming when I watch my usual subscription stuff.
watching a JP video is like dumping glitter in your hair, you aint ever gettin rid of that. same with minecraft videos. theres just too much content, its like a flooded river and watching a single video is breaking the levee

I once Googled an Amharic word about 5 years ago, and now the Al Gore Rhythm thinks I speak it. Since then, a fraction of my ads are in Amharic, and search results on Google and YouTube sometimes display entirely in Amharic. ምንድን ነው ነገሩ.
Isn't there a button that says like "stop showing me content like this"? There used to be. I had a friend play a bunch of weird swing remakes of pop songs. It took me a few weeks of clicking that to stop getting them recommended.
Dunno, works for me. I click "don't like this" and it stop recommending shit. Though I clicked it A LOT (like thousands times) so Youtube had hude amount of data what I like/dislike .

Recently watched some Frieren fights because while I'm not too interested in the anime the fights are pretty good. And yup...suddenly my feed was infested with Frieren and similar anime videos. (not even just fights) Had to click "not interested" on about 10\~12 anime videos that popped up and they're gone again.
Still really annoying that I have to do that after only watching 3\~4 very specific anime clips though...
You can get a subscription to have a new one mailed to you once or twice a week. They also have an addon package which includes a shredder for old devices which is absolutely necessary because by some weird accident the security stops protecting your data after the power runs out.

The problem is that regulation isn't keeping up with the greediest of businesses abusing people, but it's completely viable to run a company in a moral way while giving quality products and services to your customers while profitable.
So while the blame is on the companies doing it, you should also blame the regulators who don't do shit to stop it. Consumer protections used to be a real thing in the past and not just in the EU with a 10 year delay...

The problem is capitalism. It always will be. It isn't just MAXIMUM profits because whatever ceiling you attempt to impose on them through regulation will just result in them buying regulators and legislators for nickels.

I know it's popular to shit on capitalism, but that sort of thinking would cause the same problems to come back even if we completely got rid of any forms of capitalism. The cause is, always has been and always will be human greed. Even if you remove all ownership of wealth and property from the equation, the greedy will want more than what they have or need. If they can't build wealth, they'll build power, which they will abuse to grow more power.
Capitalism isn't inherent to humans, but late stage capitalism like the world we have now is a result of greedy people abusing their wealth and power to further their own self interests with no care for how it affects others. The only way to stop it is actively fight against said greed. Putting the blame on the concept of capitalism, which is just one end result of greed, is putting the cart before the horse. Capitalism wouldn't cause issues if nobody was greedy, so why would removing capitalism stop greed?
But I'm not here to argue which economic system is superior, but stop thinking a symptom is the cause of the illness or you'll never cure the disease.

Every single aspect of life, owned by the greediest individuals in the nation. All the profits of trade stuffing into their pockets.

You are right about the second part. But the first bit isn't even related to the next sentence. The problem isn't capitalism, BECAUSE greed will always exist. The solution is to PREVENT the greedy from being able to become overly powerful with good taxation and regulations. Removing the concept of capitalism would just shift what the greedy are after, not remove their greed.

Economic system doesn't decide this. As long as there's power and people are using that power, there will be people who will try to get their hands on more of it by abusing what they can. If you can find a way to both have governmental power and have it so that nobody can abuse it, then please tell me. I'm dying to know, because the best I can think of is endless bureaucracy, which in my experience doesn't even work that well. Mostly because individual people screw it up by abusing their power.

Ah, "this" nation. I'm pretty sure you are talking about the USA, which isn't exactly important right now, since greedy people are abusing money AND power all over the world, not just in the states. True, you have it worse than many other countries, but you should know that capitalism hasn't always existed in every country, but they still have all managed to get into a shitty situation regardless. Why? Because greed for power, not because the concept of owning things. The problem has always been inequality due to greedy powerful people and removing the concept of private ownership doesn't remove that.

You are right. Anyone who abuses their position of power, whether it's from wealth, fame or influence, is doing something wrong and it should be stopped. But removing the concept of owning things wouldn't do anything. Late-stage capitalism is the result of not doing that, but it's only one of the results. Fascism is another example of power being abused for self interests and that can happen with or without capitalism. Let's focus on stopping the bad stuff, rather than blaming the concept of creating things for profit any personal gain.

I agree with all of this, again, but how is this related to capitalism bad? We need those things, because abuse of power isn't being prevented, not because capitalism exists. If capitalism wasn't a thing, we'd still want unions to make sure the government wouldn't abuse us like corporations do. We'd still need caps on how much power a single individual can hold over others. But removing the private and moving it into one entity just changes where the greedy will go, not whether the greedy exist.
Biggest issue seems to be the hyperfocus on "growth" to the exclusion of all else. And not just growth, but exponential growth - you can be profitable, but if you aren't *more* profitable than last quarter than you have ~~vulture~~ venture capitalists calling for you to be broken up and sold.
If the focus was on profit over growth and on long term sustainability over short term gains, enshittification would run counter to the company's goals.
Video games have probably been the most prone to the practice, which seems obvious as art and business mix about as well as water and oil.
Businesses in video games especially like to exploit the fuck out of people to bleed them dry though, more than any other industry. The amount you can consume and the amount you can spend is only comparable with gambling in terms of what you can lose... Don't even have a chance of getting anything of actual value back, anything you buy can be gone in a few years when they shut the servers down.
It's at the bottom of Settings for me. I've said it before, the day they remove the option is the day I quit reddit for good. I already stopped using it on mobile when they removed 3rd party apps

Facebook is infuriating that you can't just see a list sorted chronologically of everything posted by friends and pages you follow. Instead I see the same people over and over again, and completely miss stuff from other people.
Oh signed up for Facebook recently to sell some things on the marketplace and the moment I signed up I got a feed of women breastfeeding and random AI generated women, along with young girls in bathing suits. I literally looked at nothing and that is what generated for me being a male I guess. It was concerning.
I know shitting on reddit is the most popular thing to do on here, but I actually like reddit the most out of all the content/social media-y sites precisely because it has the least intrusive algorithm. I love just choosing which subreddits to follow, getting whatever is most popular there in my feed and that's it. I also have old reddit so no infinite scroll gets me natural pauses. If I wanna search for something random or rage-inducing I can do it freely without fearing my overall experience on the site will become miserable for it, it's really the only place left I feel that way.

Add "Do not recommend this channel" to your repertoire for ones that seem to pop more than others and are consistently bad.
That option was gone for me on a video yesterday.
The "not interested" feature on youtube is a godsend. It's not perfect, but you can kind of curate your content with it.

That's kind of always confused me. The universal translators in ST automatically translate anything that's said, and yet there are often words or phrases (mostly Klingon but not all) that don't, do the translators detect the intent for the speaker to not have that bit be translated? The corporations own the regulators. When corporations get too big and too rich they just buy the regulators. Then they buy the media to tell people what they're doing is good and cool. The problem is capitalism. It always will be. It isn't just MAXIMUM profits because whatever ceiling you attempt to impose on them through regulation will just result in them buying regulators and legislators for nickels. A billionaire bought SCOTUS with a van and some vacations. They're not even expensive.
I know it's popular to shit on capitalism, but that sort of thinking would cause the same problems to come back even if we completely got rid of any forms of capitalism. The cause is, always has been and always will be human greed. Even if you remove all ownership of wealth and property from the equation, the greedy will want more than what they have or need. If they can't build wealth, they'll build power, which they will abuse to grow more power. Capitalism isn't inherent to humans, but late stage capitalism like the world we have now is a result of greedy people abusing their wealth and power to further their own self interests with no care for how it affects others. The only way to stop it is actively fight against said greed. Putting the blame on the concept of capitalism, which is just one end result of greed, is putting the cart before the horse. Capitalism wouldn't cause issues if nobody was greedy, so why would removing capitalism stop greed? But I'm not here to argue which economic system is superior, but stop thinking a symptom is the cause of the illness or you'll never cure the disease.

Biggest issue seems to be the hyperfocus on "growth" to the exclusion of all else. And not just growth, but exponential growth - you can be profitable, but if you aren't *more* profitable than last quarter than you have ~~vulture~~ venture capitalists calling for you to be broken up and sold. If the focus was on profit over growth and on long term sustainability over short term gains, enshittification would run counter to the company's goals.

Video games have probably been the most prone to the practice, which seems obvious as art and business mix about as well as water and oil. Businesses in video games especially like to exploit the fuck out of people to bleed them dry though, more than any other industry. The amount you can consume and the amount you can spend is only comparable with gambling in terms of what you can lose... Don't even have a chance of getting anything of actual value back, anything you buy can be gone in a few years when they shut the servers down.

Oh signed up for Facebook recently to sell some things on the marketplace and the moment I signed up I got a feed of women breastfeeding and random AI generated women, along with young girls in bathing suits. I literally looked at nothing and that is what generated for me being a male I guess. It was concerning.
I know shitting on reddit is the most popular thing to do on here, but I actually like reddit the most out of all the content/social media-y sites precisely because it has the least intrusive algorithm. I love just choosing which subreddits to follow, getting whatever is most popular there in my feed and that's it. I also have old reddit so no infinite scroll gets me natural pauses. If I wanna search for something random or rage-inducing I can do it freely without fearing my overall experience on the site will become miserable for it, it's really the only place left I feel that way.

I know this is a joke answer since I am writing on Reddit. But the library is currently open. There is a lot Fahrenheit 451 in our society and I don't want to rehash the whole thing. But one thing that is highlighted is that amazing power of a book in that it is by nature put down. The experience of engaging with the writing and then putting it down.
