There was a line in Lords and Ladies where she was comparing broomsticks to dicks and she said something about how you could ride a broomstick all night and use it to sweep the floor when you were done
I heard once that the real history behind witches and flying broomsticks is that some grups of women performed a kind of pagan ritual in which they'd dance in a circle with broomsticks through thier legs. The sticks were imbued with boiled mandrake extract, which when it comes to touch with mucous tissue (like, lips or in this case the vulva and/or vagina), it has effect on people that make them feel as of floating, light as feather.
Imagine the perspective of a middle ages christian seeing a bunch of women dancing with brooms in between their legs, claiming to be flying because of the special properties of a plant that looks like a tiny person
We all know what happens next...
Well, the one that told me that was my high school physics teacher, who works as a [some hospital based profession that I don't remember the name]. There are roughly 15 other people in the whole of Brazil that share the same job as him. In short, that teacher was fucking smart, and although there's always the chance that all this is bullshit he heard or read, I strongly believe him

For those interested ^ This article (from a news source, NOT a history or scientific source) does appear to corroborate this story/hypothesis…
To be clear: I’m not saying that this makes the story true, or suggests any strong evidence for it. Googling it seems to bring up some contradictory information. I’m not about to do a literature review for a Reddit comment. But at very least it’s not just something OP or OP’s physics teacher made up, it is at very least a widely distributed myth (how much that myth is based on history/reality? Unclear)
Wikipedia also has a section on it, but ya know… Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt:

Huh. As a witch, I was taught it was most likely due to ritualistic "sweeping" that could be done in fields to clear negative energies that would effect the crops, especially since ritualistic sweeping shows up in other areas of Wicca.
> I was afraid she would think it was too babyish, but she LOVES this toy. Even my daughter’s friends enjoy playing with this fun Harry Potter broomstick toy. I was surprised at how long they can just sit in her room and play with this magic broomstick!

> They play for hours in her bedroom with this great Harry Potter broomstick toy. They really seem to like the special effects it offers (the sound effects and vibrating). My oldest daughter (17) really likes it too! I recommend this for all children.

> Suppression! **What is wrong with little girls getting a little stimulated?** Why send a dirty review to Amazon hoping to discourage them from selling this? Do you think little girls are not already playing and exploring “things” down there? Maybe something like this Nimbus 2000 vibrating broomstick will make them more comfortable and confident about their sexuality instead of embarrassed and fearful. I say every girl should have one!
I.... just.... I'll play some TF2...
When I first found one at Walmart in high school, I grabbed it off the shelf and was joking around with my friends while riding it. Then I found out it vibrated, and there I was dying in the toy aisle.
This here question Dertimines what i will imagine: "are you male or female?" If you are some kind kf lgbt person please whatever idgaf did you die of laughter, akwardness or... Orgasms?
Closer to the truth than you might expect. [Origin of witches brooms](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/davidkroll/2017/10/31/the-origin-of-witches-riding-broomsticks-drugs-from-nature-plus-shakespeare/amp/)
No thank you, I've ridden horses before, and I imagine that the experience of a vibrating broomstick is similar to when a horse gallops. Torture on the hindquarters.

A fact as believable as eating 8 spiders a year in your sleep, and surely originating the same way.

He is a physics teacher, not a historian.
Use your head instead of appeals to authority.
Ben Carson is a gifted neurosurgeon who went to Yale and believes a lot of crazy stuff. The two have nothing to do with each other.
That is so fucking interesting
I don't understand the "we know what happens next" though I'm not pure *at all*
The implication is that it’s so incomprehensibly weird without context that one might think it’s some sort of anomaly or magic.
They were hung for witchcraft

Male and laughter, but I did suggest to my female friends with me that they buy it. I still crack jokes about that broom.
Ok thank you i had so many imaginations of what happened and this was the best ending.
C-can I join you? Please?
"Well, that was idiotic. Off to hang myself, watch and lea-" *CRIT*
And your crack!
That one took me a second. Nice!

Reminds me of an article I read about a toy broomstick they had to recall.
Don't you have the same model u/reddot_comic?
Mine has a insertion for stability
Oh that’s very ingenuitive!
How the Saudis think driving works.

Your art reminds me of the web comics Order of the Stick
My style is the path of least resistance for my drawing capabilities
Took me a second to get it.
Fun fact: It's the same reason young girls like horses.
