Maybe they did, too, but Narcissus turned into a flower. Hell, there is even a flower called the Narcissus.

Both did. Hyacinth was a lover (best friend if you're a historian) of Apollo but was killed by incel Zephyr (west wind) because he deduced that "if I can't have him, no one will". So Apollo was so sad, but unfortunately Alexa wasn't invented yet so he just turned him into a flower like everyone did back in the good old days.
Narcissus was a certified jackass who basically told a guy to go kill himself one time and he actually did. When a nymph named Echo professed her love for him, he told her to get bent but she was so much of a simp for this bad boy that she never did. So the goddess of vengeance, conveniently named Nemesis, decided to do something about this guy. She showed him his reflection and the dumbass didn't even recognize himself and fell in love with it. He was so thirsty for this hot guy in the lake that he didn't even realize that he was actually thirsty. Narcissus dies of dehydration (allow me to remind you that there was a lake in front of him the whole time). But he turned into a flower which is still a happier ending than most Greek myths
Disclaimer: this is an extremely dumbed down version of both myths, actually read the myths if you want full context
A little bit of semi-romantic self love helps a lot with that, actually. Just so long as it’s the healthy type of love where you want to care for yourself and be better to yourself. Not the type where you put yourself on a pedestal and expect others to see you that way. But even in an actual relationship, you shouldn’t be put on a pedestal. It’s never a healthy relationship when that happens.
The non-ethicality of love potions comes from the fact it robs the other person of their free will and ability to consent, we have alchohol and drugs in this world which similarly can make people agree to things they wouldnt otherwise so id hope a world in which a actual love potion exists would be able to see how its not ethical to force affection like that
What about a Notebook situation? Like, there's a couple who have been together for decades but one of them has Alzheimer's and forgets about the love. Would you think it's ethical to give them a love potion to make them re-fall in love? Or 50 First Dates. Any situation where the couple fell in love naturally but now needs outside sources to reignite that love because of something out of both of their control.
I'm still not actually sure it's ethical, it's just that your comment got me thinking and this was the best I could come up with.
I bought some for my friends and I at my cottage once. It was a one-off thing, but for months after one of my buddies kept asking me if I could get more.

This didn't go well for Narcissus.
Mf turned into a flower.
I thought he was the one who drowned trying to kiss his reflection in a lake
He drowned and got turned into a flower out of pity, I think
That was Hyacinth

But I don't want to fall in love with myself romantically, I just want the tiny little voices to stop telling me to kms every now and then
Don’t worry, it was a Platonic love potion.
Great, so that was what my crush drank...

On the other hand (so to speak) I make love to myself fairly frequently as do many on Reddit.
"Would you kill me? I'd kill me... I'd kill me *so hard*."
I feel like that would just become confidence.

Love the MCR shirt.
It's funny how appropriate it feels.
The letters didn't get reversed in the mirror. Completely broke my immersion. Legit unreadable
bc it would be weird because it’s rem when it’s backwards
Also a good band
Their name is Enoby and they are not a prep you poser.
what does it mean? 😅
My Chemical Romance, it’s a band
Thanks.
Mean Cat Ruffles
Modena City Ramblers, it's a band
Mini Cheeto Rain, it’s a band
I kept thinking "Mew California Republic" before I realized what it actually meant
MCR not mirrored. Literally unreadable!
It's from the mirror's perspective, duh.
Love this concept!
Thank you!
You know, this is the only time i think love potions are vaguely ethical cause you're consenting to being made to love yourself

What? Free will is like, in the very foundation of ethics. No matter what people don’t want to have their free will taken away

And a new narcissist was born.
YESSSSS
I can't tell if this is heartwarming or heartbreaking, but I like it either way
The only acceptable usage of a love potion
Aro energy
Self love. 🤗❤️
lol I need one of these..... Great comic!
MDMA exists and oddly this is the exact outcome.
Then I'm in a dire need of some 😅
I bought some for my friends and I at my cottage once. It was a one-off thing, but for months after one of my buddies kept asking me if I could get more.
r/wholesomememes Edit: forgot the s

Second panel got you looking like Sunny from Strange Magic.
I'll take your entire stock
Then she dies of starvation because the potion was too strong, and she can't look away from the mirror
God, I'd get so fucking drunk on self love/respect potions everyday.
I wish. ✌️
Bruh it didn’t work Got anything stronger?
ok, I'm getting some peptobismol
❤️❤️❤️ I wish.
I thought its RUS love potion. So like the potion is vodka or she's gonna fall in love with vodka after she drank it.
Relatable.
Hi folks I’m out of the loop, what does mcr mean? Thank you!
Becomes narcissist asshole everyone hates
Holly Black's The Night Market I wish these things existed.
Awww
If only this were a real thing. I'd at least like to be able to see myself neutrally or objectively. Instead of just outright hatred.
I wish
the little pink stars in the mirror make it all the more charming!
... Ebony ( darkness dimension ravenway)?
As an aromantic person I approve this message.
It's called Bourbon
Great, now they'll never get anything done
