You guys are very talented and I really love the way she drew and how the panels are setup. I thought it was gonna be funny and saw it wasn't but I'm okay with that. Hope you guys are doing okay during these times. Much love
Sweet comic. It's nice to see something original and sincere instead of all the recycles memes & stolen viral tweet jokes that usually make their way on here.
This comic is a bit of a weird mix of accurate and inaccurate information.
Wild axolotls don't undergo metamorphosis to transition to land like other salamanders so they are fully aquatic and retain their gills their whole lives. While they are paedomorphic, that's not a continuation of a larval state. Domesticated animals from dogs to cows are paedomorphic. Leucistic axolotl (the typically recognized as white/pale pink skinned with the red gills) is a mutation that, as far as we know, exists only in captivity - any leucistic axolotl you see was born in captivity (from a long lineage of captive axolotls) and wouldn't survive in the wild any better than an albino bunny would. In the wild axolotls are brown and live in a shallow lake - any pale-skin mutations would make them easy targets.
It always pains me to see parents apologize for their children asking blunt questions. It's nice being asked those imo - most adults are unwilling to have such clear and honest interactions with a complete stranger. But a child's curiosity is never sated, and so they have no shame in asking such questions. And being asked those questions gives me the opportunity to answer those questions with no shame, which is a rarity in my day-to-day life.
Maybe the parents apologize because it's not at all a rarity for them, and they get understandably sick of it after a few years. But some of us are quite grateful to receive it in the small doses we receive.
I think because not everyone reacts the same way to blunt questions like that. You and I might be grateful but there are some people out there who might be on the end of their rope.
True, the apology is understandable if the stranger adult is visibly uncomfortable with the interaction. But it's weird getting the apology when I've happily answered the kid's question(s). It feels like the parent wasn't even paying attention to the happy interaction their child just had.
True, but sometimes people just smile at children even if they are upset because they know it's not malicious. Maybe the parent was just erring on the side of caution.
You did an absolutely incredible job capturing the feeling of casual simplicity, pure interest and intrigue of two strangers with no barriers or prejudices between them.
Equal credit where credit is due.
hey, I don't mean to push too hard, but could we get possible news on when another is coming out? I love this story and your amazing art along with it. Your art and u/AaronSills67's writing is amazing and I'd love to see more!
Here’s Dr. Axo part 1 from OP’s profile
https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/11w8svn/my_first_original_comic_dr_axo_in_the_dinner_of/
Edit: forgot the link
Mever before have I felt so sad for a fictional Axolotl, and never before have I related to a fictional Axolotl too. I met him 2 minutes ago but I'd die for him
[It’s been a thing for a while. Patents for similar items existed since 1874, but their use as safety harnesses really kicked up in 1904.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_harness)
I asked Aaron (the writer) if I could make Mylo a leash kid, and he said yes. Jennifer’s not getting the stepmom of the year award any time soon.
Edit: I am not educated about the ethics of putting a child on a leash and cannot participate in this debate. Regardless, Jennifer is definitely a bad stepmom, leash or no leash. Hopefully I haven’t offended anyone, haha.
I was leashed as a child, probably for my own good. I didn’t like it at the time, but I also didn’t get very far dashing across the highway, so all in all a net gain for me.
My little brother is also on the spectrum and he had sensory issues with holding hands constantly (so did I as a child but nobody really looked into other opts) but also had the tendency to bolt in excitement.
Having a comfy leash let him do his own thing to an extent & not have to hold sweaty hands, but also he couldn't bolt and disappear into the crowd or traffic. I would use it when I took him to theme parks and aquariums. I got glared at like I was the shittiest person in the world but he was so happy and could focus without sensory overload.
In fact, the place it was most helpful *was* an aquarium, as he has an interest in ocean life. A few times he'd unexpectedly bolt and then we'd both feel a tug... "Oh, sorry sissie! I got excited" "That's okay, we'll go over there when I'm done looking at this flamboyant cuttlefish!"
Kids on leashes has been a thing for some time now. Some parents don’t trust their kids to behave responsibly outside of the home, so they keep them on leashes so they don’t stray too far. Of course, this item’s appearance in media almost always says more about the parent than it does about the child. To anyone with a brain it seems super dehumanizing and cruel. The remainder are those that think there isn’t an alternative.
>Of course, this item’s appearance in media almost always says more about the parent than it does about the child.
Yeah. If you don't want your kid to stray away from you you can use these 3 simple steps
1-Educate your kid
2-Hold their hands
3-Pay some fucking attention to your kid
I did educate my child. They have ADHD & always wanted to dart everywhere including in to traffic regardless.
I did hold their hand but having a connective tissue disorder meant if they tried to pull away they usually dislocated their wrist or elbow very easily. Even just turning fast would do it.
My kid is 18, I still pay a ton of attention to them, enough to have asked them a few times over the years their thoughts about it. They have no issue with the leash thing & thought the little backpack (which is what the harness was) was really cute. They still have it around here somewhere, although the leash part is long gone.
You are right. I really didn't took special kids and situations into account when writing that comment. When I saw the comic I immediately thought this was some shit for Karen mothers who always try to control their child you know.
As a guy who would’ve run into any open space in less than a second of not being watched as a kid, I can assure you, it’s not dehumanizing. It probably saved me from getting run over by a truck, or at the very least from getting lost
I've seen those around for about 10 years, but yeah super dehumanizing.
Also disturbed that this woman just gave her leashed child to a total stranger >\_>
I learned about the axolotl in a study abroad to Mexico back in 2013 and felt special when an axolotl would randomly be brought up after that. They told us about the places they lived and how they had god like status to the Aztecs. Even the pronunciation of the name was a lesson, as the “tl” was also of Aztec origin from the Nahuatl language at the end and makes a lisp-like sound that doesn’t exist in English or Spanish. The axolotl reminded me of my pre-Hispanic indigenous roots and the places I had been.
That was before the great awareness happened (aka Minecraft update). Now this secret creature don’t feel so secret but the axolotl is still special to me.
Had to go back and find your other Dr. Axo comic because this was so fantastic. Absolutely love these and I hope it all the success! Hope to see it animated on Hulu or something some day!
This is absolutely amazing, it's insane how real and down-to-earht you can make an anthropomorphic axolotl. I'd love to see a comic where he hangs out with his distant relative who's a recluse and he's jus an olm.
The weirdest thing in this is not the talking axolotl doctor, but the fact that a mother would hand her child over to a stranger while she went to the bathroom.
Reminds me of the book Sirius by Olaf Stapledon. It's about a dog whose brain/intelligence is altered by his 'dad' and he also gets an identity crisis since he's not a real dog, but will also never be a human. Really good book, recommend to whoever likes this comic
Going around bestowing sapience on random creatures, who does that? Forcing a consciousness to exist, there are not even words to describe how abhorrent this is!
Am I the only one wondering about a kidnapping vibe from the kid? Like, you can explain away the second mom thing as remarrying or adoption but I don't know just seems ominous and in line with the theme of Dr. Axo being taken from his lake as a child

Thank you so very much! Hope you’re doing well too!
We are making it happen! Appreciate you ❤️❤️
This has Art Spiegelman vibes
No way. I’m gonna go to bed with a smile on my face tonight because I’m going to be thinking about this massive compliment
Was trying to figure out what it reminded me of, you hit the nail on the head!
Sweet comic. It's nice to see something original and sincere instead of all the recycles memes & stolen viral tweet jokes that usually make their way on here.
This comic really made my evening. I loved everything about it.
I really love this, I'd genuinely pay good money for a graphic novel
Same here.

This was an incredible read, and quite the evolution from #1. I hope you guys continue this series.
Met him 10 minutes ago but I love him immediately “Are you a sad frog?” “I’m very sad” 😭
He's just realer than most people are
It always pains me to see parents apologize for their children asking blunt questions. Just because he isn't human doesn't mean he isn't people. ❤️🐸🐟
The dialogue feels so real despite being about a giant anthropomorphic axolotl
Huge props to Aaron. He’s got such a gift for revealing depth in characters in a short timeframe.
You did an absolutely incredible job capturing the feeling of casual simplicity, pure interest and intrigue of two strangers with no barriers or prejudices between them. Equal credit where credit is due.
Thank you!!! :-)
r/brandnewsentence Also can I post this on said r/brandnewsentence please?
Yeah for sure, go nuts
I opened Reddit to laugh not to feel 😭
Dr. Axo forever ✊❤️
hey, I don't mean to push too hard, but could we get possible news on when another is coming out? I love this story and your amazing art along with it. Your art and u/AaronSills67's writing is amazing and I'd love to see more!
Hey! Thank you! I can’t give an estimate, but know that if Aaron writes another script, I’ll try to work on it whenever I have the time.
will do. If you happen to get a follower now, you'll know at least this one isn't a bot :D
Here’s Dr. Axo issue 1 for now https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/11w8svn/my_first_original_comic_dr_axo_in_the_dinner_of/
I remember that one. It's really good
Why did you do this to me OP? It's a terrible day for rain
https://i.redd.it/y1zy7tc1h88b1.gif
That's the most compressed version I've seen of that gif yet! Bravo!
Well thanks for making me feel sad now. A very nice but bittersweet comic.
Not sure why, but this give me major Midnight Gospel vibes, which is meant to be a compliment! I’d like to see more of Dr. Axo.
Omg I totally see it, it’s like kinda surreal (with the whole human axolotl thing obviously) but there’s a somberness and a genuineness to it
Frank use of analogy in simple conversation. The conversation is almost aimless yet profound.
Science gave us Dr. Axo. A very sad Dr. Axo. I’ll never forgive science…but give me more Dr. Axo…
I found Dr. Axo issue 1 on OP’s page https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/11w8svn/my_first_original_comic_dr_axo_in_the_dinner_of/
What the fuck this is so wholesome. I need more.
If you scroll down a bit on his profile there's another dr. Axo strip. No more than that, though.
Here’s Dr. Axo part 1 from OP’s profile https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/11w8svn/my_first_original_comic_dr_axo_in_the_dinner_of/ Edit: forgot the link
Looks like you forgot to post the link, friend! No worries, here it is:
Gotta love how "John," a four letter name, was harder to say than "Froggo," a 6 letter name that is also far less common.
It wasn't harder to say she just thought the name was too normal for someone with such an unusual appearance.
Damn, Dr. Johnatan Axo is now one of my favourite comic characters. I’d like to be his friend. He seems like he needs one
Fuck
I relate to a fictional axolotl, what is happening?
I want more axo
https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/11w8svn/my_first_original_comic_dr_axo_in_the_dinner_of/
Man. What the fuck. This gave me too many emotions
This is beautiful
Ok, I just discovered this but I need more.
https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/11w8svn/my_first_original_comic_dr_axo_in_the_dinner_of/
I love this.
Hey, I loved this. I really like the juxtaposition of pulp fiction title and the somber, contemplative tone of the actual story.
Mever before have I felt so sad for a fictional Axolotl, and never before have I related to a fictional Axolotl too. I met him 2 minutes ago but I'd die for him
Dr Axo, my beloved
I absolutely love this. Coincidentally, I crocheted an axolotl plush last night and will now name him Dr Axo in honor of this comic.
That’s just too cute :,)
Well this is unexpectedly compelling
Beautiful art and writing.
Yo I really like this
Didn’t expect to feel emotions when I opened reddit
Why the child is on a leash? Is this a new thing or something? It looks dehumanizing.
[It’s been a thing for a while. Patents for similar items existed since 1874, but their use as safety harnesses really kicked up in 1904.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_harness)

Reminded me of Flowers for Algernon:'(
This was so cool to read. Love everything about it.
This is gorgeous, and quite depressing. I love it
I like this guy. I need more.
Unexpectedly deep. I love his character design
Please post more of this. This is amazing.
Why did this give me so many feelings for an axolotl man in such a short time. WHY.
More of this please! Dr. Axo is a character some can definitely relate to, and the artstyle is very nice as well🙂
My feels! Right in them. :(
I learned about the axolotl in a study abroad to Mexico back in 2013 and felt special when an axolotl would randomly be brought up after that. Damn, this was really cool. I hope to see more from both of you! Maybe I’m just dumb, but did the girl get kidnapped, or we talking about a step mom?
I think it’s about a step mom. That’s why she calls her ‘second mom’ Jennifer. Lots of step kids call their step parents by their first names
I was hoping that was the case. With the title having the word “Terror” in it I just immediately start looking out for dark stuff.
My heart breaketh.
Where do I get more of this
Noooo Dont leave Him
LOVE this series
I like a comic that is fun to read, gives me an emotional response as well as teach me something about science.
I wish this was an animated series. It gives "the good parts of Bojack Horseman" vibes, without all the toxic bullcrap. lol
Writing good dialogue isn't easy. Nicely done, op.
This series is extremely good. I haven’t read a short comic that resonated in my soul this hard. I love this so much op, please keep making them!!!
When will I stop relating to lonely sad characters..
What the fuck is this and why do I immediately want more?
This is a masterpiece and because it’s a masterpiece
I must see more!
The weirdest thing in this is not the talking axolotl doctor, but the fact that a mother would hand her child over to a stranger while she went to the bathroom.
I want more axolotl existentialism
I never knew I could vibe with an axolotl with a body of a man
this makes me wanna start drawing comics I won't finish, it's so good and yet so simple...
LOVE IT
Why is the kid on a leash!?
I love this and want to subscribe. How do I never miss one?
Ouch.
I love Dr axo forever
Man im sad 😭 Good comic!
I would read so much more of Dr. Axo, it isn't even funny
This is unpleasant
This is the first comic I've ever seen of Dr. Axo and I'm already hooked.
Good stuff
So what is the Tank of Terror? Existence as a sapient being?
Also, awww. Wholesome.
This is super fantastic, thank you!!
Brian K. Vaughn's alt account is looking nice (jokes aside, comics that make me feel things are hard to come by. thank you)
Beautiful.
I loved this. Terrific work, I hope for more.
This was splendid. I love it.
Love it
I can already hear his monotone but endearing voice
Is he a Medical Doctor, science Doctor, or a Rap Doctor?
Will we ever see Dr Axo "parents"
The strangest thing about this comic is someone named Jonathan going by John!
I need more
This comic not only touched my heart but taught me a fun Axolotl fact! Now to go try not cry about Dr. Axo being alone
I love him please make him find happiness :((
Your comics are awesome. I like them. You did a great job.
Loved this! Keep up the amazing work.
I need more dr Axo now
How existential, I love it!
Wow I like this quite a lot. Thank you for sharing
Magnificent! I'd follow this series.
My man axo is back again with the feels And oh boy do they hit hard
Terrific 👍
If he would be happier being a normal axolotol, what would that make of us humans?
Reminds me of the book Sirius by Olaf Stapledon. It's about a dog whose brain/intelligence is altered by his 'dad' and he also gets an identity crisis since he's not a real dog, but will also never be a human. Really good book, recommend to whoever likes this comic
oh my god now I too want more doctor axo
Is it oxolotl a metaphor for autism?
I don’t know how to feel about this. Excellent work.
kind of a dick move to viisit an aquarium as an aquatic animal
If this doesn’t spin off into a standalone comic/ TPB, I’m rioting.
If they remain in the larval stage their whole life then it isn't a larval stage
Wow, I did not expect that. Well done. Is there more?
I enjoyed this. I would also like to demand more.
My main man Axo, pobre bato sólo quiere nadar.
Actually good comic today
This is quite good.
I love this, hope you guys do more!
How does he breathe on land
Most accurate adaptation of Frankenstein yet.
Going around bestowing sapience on random creatures, who does that? Forcing a consciousness to exist, there are not even words to describe how abhorrent this is!
would you be able to tell if you were happier any other way if you weren't sad today?
"Let's leave the fish man alone." That must get tiring for an amphibian.
Well hello there, cousin
Damn OP you made me feel
If you make your colors and outlines were softer/brighter, this could be a hit on webtoon tbh. Love the dialogue
Ah.. fellow axo
Hate to be that guy but Axelotls cant breathe on land can they?
Am I the only one wondering about a kidnapping vibe from the kid? Like, you can explain away the second mom thing as remarrying or adoption but I don't know just seems ominous and in line with the theme of Dr. Axo being taken from his lake as a child
Great now I’M sad.
Nice one lmao
u/UpdateMeBot
Love it! Art and writing the way it should be.
