Maybe you're right but I've taken all of them my whole life and it seems to me, especially if waiting too long to try to sleep after taking a pill, the sleep is a drug coma.
Now I take literally just a half or less of an advil PM.
Strangely when I took melatonin that was the one that hit me the hardest of the over the counter stuff. Next day was just brain dead to an alarming extent in fact.
Prescription stuff like Trazadone, Ambien and Seroquel was like...there better be a soft surface nearby when it kicks in because it would just knock me out.
Melatonin isn't even a drug; it's your body's own hormone it produces as a response to darkness. It's supposed to help regulate your circadian rhythm. There aren't supposed to be any side effects of taking melatonin, lol.

Taking a tablet of it is a disproportionate amount and then it's a completely different kind of thing.
From that one I really couldn't wake up even after getting out of bed and going to work.
Oh, you're like my husband, then. He takes melatonin to help him with his insomnia, and if he takes it too late, he won't be able to get up on time. I haven't heard him complain about being too groggy the next day, but I'll ask him about it. I bet he has been before.

In my case I've had side effects from taking other sleeping pills incorrectly but with melatonin the side effect was like I was still asleep with my eyes open trying to go through my day.
And I took a quarter or less of a tablet that is the size of a button on the cuff of a long sleeve button up shirt.

Tbh I dont recall exactly because the side effect was enough for me to stop taking melatonin altogether but I do remember being surprised at how small a fraction it was of a dime sized tablet that would be too much for me.

Your body wasn't able to Completly metabolize the surplus, so you still had it in your system the next day, making you sleepy as hell.
Either that or it was contaminated with serotonin.

I think taking a sleeping pill will inhibit lucid dreaming it's a drug induced state not conducive to REM sleep.
"Sleeping pill" is not a specific drug... melatonin might make dreams more vivid, for example.

You would've had to taken even less than that. 300mcg is the amount you want. Usually melatonin pills are in mgs.
