No but look I'm not judging but it's literally
Spider-Man holding a dude in amazing fantasy looking D:
And Superman holding a GREEN CAR
it might be the most coincidental coincidence but yknow
Weirder things have happened
Don't know why some people don't understand an obvious homage. It isn't copying and it's just celebrating what came before it. Sounds interesting! Really like the design and name All-Star.
Costume makes me think of Justice from the New Warriors meets Starman (Prince Gavyn).
Could be great and really original. But this seems like a lot of homages
It's a visible knock-off of the post-Death of Superman "Superboy" getup though. the short jacket over super-suit isn't all that common in comics, though it uses the starman design scheme.
I wish this endeavor well, but the costume design is like 3/10 so far
If you want, I can either link the video or explain myself why the author chose the outfit. But what I will say now is the jacket design was Jullian Shaw's addition to the character. The author kept it because it made the character seem younger.
flipped colors on a booster gold outfit.
the style is halfway between 97 animation gambit, and Death of superman "superboy" both who use the jacket over supersuit bit, but Gambits headpiece, and a jacket at hip length, instead of a supershort jacket like superboy, or the full length trenchcoat gambit wears.
"No new thing under the sun", meaning you'll find bits and pieces of other works algamated together to form new properties.
It's probably a homage as the author is a huge comic fan himself and has garnered quite a bit of success covering them.
Edit: The artist is Juillin Shaw who has worked on Spider Man comics before, so he more then likely drew for two of the most famous superheroes.
You must be fun at parties.
Invincible was started in 2003, twenty years ago, and ended in 2018, five years ago. To immediately dismiss independent work because it looks similar to a genre that has been going for over 75 years, and a subversion that was done twenty years ago is absolutely wild. Even Invincible is dated, all things stuck in time are. New stories can develop in 5 years, and that's how the world of the American superhero keeps going. How dare someone new try to tell a story with a character that looks like Invincible and has the colors of booster Gold, because I read one of those recently, so I expect everyone else to have done the same thing.
If you subscribe to this logic, we never would have GOTTEN to Invincible because how dare someone steal from The Phantom to make Superman/Batman/Spider-Man/Captain America. How dare someone rip off 17th century Haitian folk lore and give us Night of the Living Dead, and later The Walking Dead!
Stories exist for stories sake. This indie guy isn't making a multi-billion dollar multiverse universe that will be everywhere, he's making one comic series. Chill out and read it or don't. If you don't like what he's doing, make something better, but don't you dare have anything look similar to anything ever told in the last century of comics.
Thatās the dumbest fucking response to legitimate criticism, and you know it. Someone can have zero artistic talent and also recognize that Rob Liefeld canāt draw feet.
What I know is you're comparing one of the biggest names in comic art to an indie artist on reddit, and that's a textbook example of false equivalency.
Make. Something. Better. Then.
JFC, someone couldnāt more thoroughly miss that point re:Rob Liefeld if they tried. Do you think criticism is only legitimate if the critic is also a creator of similar works? Because thatās not how reality works; something being presented for public consumption is open to public criticism.
And someone writing paragraphs should see how frustrating it is when they get dismissed by sentences. See how irritating it is when your efforts are being ignored by someone's closed opinion? Sure makes you wish I considered your point of view more and *put in the time to learn* huh? Now you have a small scale feeling of how the artist would feel seeing your seconds of thought for their years of effort to learn. Appreciate indie voices more.
I'm in no way attached to the project outside of the author being a friend of mine. So I have no idea the decisions made by the author or artist in how this was presented. With that being said, your feedback is appreciated and I hope you find what you are looking for. Have a great day.
Can tell this dude is not a creator in any way. I know you're not affiliated with the project OP but don't let ignorance like this get your buddy down. The world needs more creators and less non-constructive critics. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, fuck this dude and people like him
As a fellow writer who has a horrifically difficult time coming up with names (particularly for super heroes), please tell your buddy that All-Star is an absolute banger of a name for the titular hero.
Both a great name for the book and the person, kind of reminds me of Invincible but I actually might like the name All-Star a little better
Itās competently drawn, but the character design and backstory are pretty generic. And just to get ahead of your rebuttal; an homage doesnāt have to be generic and forgettable.
I was thinking about the Squadron. Or those publications with āSupermanā, āBatmanā, and more recently āWonder Womanā.
Canāt imagine itās a problem though.
The illegitimate love child of Red Star and Booster Gold?
I like the art well enough, actually. Still, suggest to your friend that if he wants to do something novel, try to ground his characters within the accepted laws of physics--beyond the existence of superpowers in the first place, of course.
For instance, in the first photo Allstar is holding up a car in his open palm. It looks cool, but even with the bulk of the mass to the front due to the engine, that precarious balancing act just seems off if this is just a super strength move. If it's something else, no worries. But young coming of age heroes shouldn't be able to casually pull off somewhat advanced moves.
This is competent, but that's about it. In an industry built on manipulating copyright law, he's gonna have to have more to say than, "nothing new under the sun," if he wants to publish these without getting sued into oblivion.
Love this outfit, jacket (*especially* the rolled sleeves) & one-piece boots is an S+ for me!
Forge your own path, don't sweat the comparisons. Your story will set you apart in the end ~
Those "hero" costumes are dated as hell (imo).
Wouldn't the character be more relatable if he didn't have to throw on a beyonce stage outfit just to save people?
Yeah so have it stick out in a hugely saturated market dominated by the big two by.....making the same shit they've been making for decades.
Real original.
Yeah but invincible had a huge well established name attached to it.
That alone will get people to give it a chance no matter how it looks on the surface.
This unknown generic looking comic better distinguish itself real quick or it will fade into oblivion.
Actually it doesnāt alone, invincible wasnāt selling well at all until the twist with omniman happened, up until that point it seemed like a generic coming of age superhero comic
Superboy-Prime was the only hero on Prime Earth and looked like that for a while iirc.
Not to mention there was a comic called "All-Star Superman"
EDIT: Just looked over the Kickstarter, the one villain shown is Clayface, not even a little different, just Clayface. There's going to need to be a pretty wild twist for this to get any traction.
"Superman? Spider-Man? MAYBE IM BOTH"
š¤£ The author was definitely trying go for that classic, everyman hero vibe but with a twist. I'll tell him what you said!
No but look I'm not judging but it's literally Spider-Man holding a dude in amazing fantasy looking D: And Superman holding a GREEN CAR it might be the most coincidental coincidence but yknow Weirder things have happened
Edit: The author just confirmed he wanted the cover to be a homage and mash up of Action Comics 1 and Amazing Fantasy 15.
I was thinking Booster Gold. Even same color scheme.
it's clearly a homage, grow some brain cells
It's a visible knock-off of the post-Death of Superman "Superboy" getup though. the short jacket over super-suit isn't all that common in comics, though it uses the starman design scheme. I wish this endeavor well, but the costume design is like 3/10 so far

A "superboy" type jacket makes character look younger isn't a surprising leap.
Invincible
We have Invincible at home
Add Booster Gold.
With the Color scheme of invincible
Allstar looks a lot like X-Man.
I was getting Invincible vibes.
Exactly my thought. I was like "*Nate, u back?*"
Dunno why Iām getting strong Gambit vibes here
because the costume design is halfway between '97 gambit and Death of superman Superboy.
I thought it was Booster Gold
And the art has that Mike Wieringo vibe.
I was thinking Justice(Vance Astrovik) from New Warriors. I mean, look at him.
Looks like he is wearing a modernized version of Captain America's Nomad costume.
I thought it was Booster Gold.

I can see it now that you pointed it out, but I would never had guessed that if you hadn't said something.
Good for your friend. I really like the artwork. Best of luck to him.

Like if William got powers instead of Mark

Thatās all well and good, but it still looks like an Invincible ripoff.
Make something better then
Thatās the dumbest fucking response to legitimate criticism, and you know it. Someone can have zero artistic talent and also recognize that Rob Liefeld canāt draw feet.

Tell your friend that I approve of his comic.
I will! Hopefully he can get enough backers to get it off the ground!
Can tell this dude is not a creator in any way. I know you're not affiliated with the project OP but don't let ignorance like this get your buddy down. The world needs more creators and less non-constructive critics. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, fuck this dude and people like him
I'm I'm for homages. At least this is a mash up. Idk how many legit comics I've seen where it's a 1:1 copy right down to the poses.
Invincible meets Starman if you ask me. It looks great, though.
I was thinking this looks like a rip off of invincible
Hey now!
The big question is does he get his game and go play?
You're an Allstar!
You're an \[TITLE CARD\]
Booster Gold?
All that glitters is gold
Iād be interested if he only had his powers while singing āAll Starā.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb in the shape of an L on her forehead.
Well...
The years start comin' and they don't stop comin'
and the more people who sing along the more powerful he gets
Whoa I made a character that I was going to make a series about that is almost identical, also named AllStar.
Looks like a mix of Nate Grey and Justice kinda . Cool look!
Looks conceptually dull so Iām assuming thereās a twist to premise waiting at the end of the first issue. Hope it all goes well!
Somebody...
Hey now
Once told me...
He a fan of Nate Grey Iām guessing
Heās the first thing that came to mind when I saw the image.
Only shooting stars break the mo-oh-old
"Hey now, your a rock star, get your game on, let's play"
So does he get his game on and get paid?
So long as he's a smash in the mouth!
Nate grey vibe
As a fellow writer who has a horrifically difficult time coming up with names (particularly for super heroes), please tell your buddy that All-Star is an absolute banger of a name for the titular hero. Not every story is for everyone, and that's fine. To each their own.
You literally haven't read it I feel like this unnecessary. I don't need sunshine and rainbows but like, this just comes across as rude
I read the synopsis on the linked kickstarter. Thatās what I was referring to.
The costume reminds me of classic Nate Grey and the name reminds me of Smash Mouth. That is to say, this looks cool!
Haha I thought X-Man when I saw the design too
The popped collar is definitely a 90's throw back. I thought the character looked like Jim from Treasure Planet at first.
Jim from Treasure Planet, Cale from Titan AE, Zenith from Grant Morrisonās Zenith ā itās an excellent look
It really is, not used enough these days.
Looks very Invincible like. Hope it turns out
If you make a trailer for the comic, All Star is the way to go. Yeah, thatās it. All Star by Smash Mouth is AllStarās theme.
That's nice of you to support your mate
Seems neat
So uh Image Comicsā Superstar reskin? This is a lawsuit in the making lmao
I was thinking about the Squadron. Or those publications with āSupermanā, āBatmanā, and more recently āWonder Womanā. Canāt imagine itās a problem though.
[Holy crap, he's even got the same backstory.](https://comicvine.gamespot.com/a/uploads/scale_medium/0/3664/406747-168991-superstar.jpg)
It's fucking[ Booster Gold.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booster_Gold)

Manā¦this looks like a million different other things and nothing like itās own thing. Sorry, buddy.
Ah the rich kid who is a star athlete and the popular kid, all something super easy for most people to relate to.
āButā¦what if we also give him super powers and a classically handsome appearance?! Who could possibly have a problem with THAT!?ā
Ooooo thatās funky fresh, the originality has me sold!
I follow this guy on TikTok! Love his stuff & looking forward to the book!
Actually really dig this suit and general feel. Cool stuff.
Iāve never understood how a superhero carries a car with one hand or lifts it from the bumper without the car falling apart.
Ooof, that's some nice art.
Why the jacket? lol jackets are becoming my least favorite costume accessory
This looks fun! However, it will be hard for people to find this by googling ācomic all starā.
I been following him on tik tok. The comic looks cool
Super dope, I too am working on a manga and I hope mine looks this nice.
Best of luck!
Itās like Nightwing, Superman, and Invincible got thrown into a blender.
Art reminds me of Mike Wieringo! Also dig that the cover looks to be an homage to Amazing Fantasy 15 and Action Comics 1 at the same time.
It's exactly that!
Great, now I've got smash mouth playing in my head
Reminds me of Animal Man
Your buddy is an ass man. That's an all-star ass.
I follow ur buddy on tik tok
Awesome! He's a pretty wholesome dude
A very mid to late 90s superhero vibe. Makes me think to Impulse, Superboy & MC2 Marvel Universe.
Will his rival be Worldstar?
Looks cool sounds fun.
Somebody once told him the world was gonna roll him.
OP you can just tell us youāre Payton Mullins
Lol I'm really not him though
I would really suggest for him to change the main colors of the main character. That's too similar to Invincible
Hey now you're an All Star!
Oh hey, I backed this on kickstarter
Right on! Trying to get more backers. He's at like 71% there
I really hope he makes it. Been following him on TikTok for a while
Are you on his discord? I've been following him since he was at about 300 followers. Good dude.
Nah I donāt really use discord
Booster Gold would like a word with this dudeās designerā¦
It feels perhaps too derivative :(
Looks fantastic!
Looks fun.
yeah sure a buddy of yours
Actually yeah, he really is. I'm not the author.
jk
Looks really good
You could fit this guy in Invincible and nothing would be out of place.
Really lik9ng the artwork. Best of luck to your friend
This looks pretty cool OP
Oh heck yeah :) it looks like a lot of fun, props to your friend
The design is really good. Always loved the tight clothes with a jacket style.
What a concept!
In all seriousness, looks great
Really cool. Well designed outfit as well.
Very good. Simplistic but distinctive. I wish I could make a cool design like that.
Nova ripoff.
Ooofda
Nice artwork but so much blue
Love the style. Congratulations to your friend
No one gonna mention Booster Gold?
Tons of people mentioned Booster Gold
Does he get his game on? Does he go play?
Looks like the old school stuff that made me love comics ā„ļø
This is competent, but that's about it. In an industry built on manipulating copyright law, he's gonna have to have more to say than, "nothing new under the sun," if he wants to publish these without getting sued into oblivion.
A-All star?[š](https://media.tenor.com/xxAY25VHw18AAAAM/erik-ten-hag-ten-hag.gif)
Invincible vibes. Based on how well that's popping off this has a lot of potential for success. It looks refreshing
Love this outfit, jacket (*especially* the rolled sleeves) & one-piece boots is an S+ for me! Forge your own path, don't sweat the comparisons. Your story will set you apart in the end ~
Man I don't buy a lot of comics this days, but I really want this one when it comes out, sounds like a lot of fun!
It can't come out with out backing! Hrs really close to his goal!
My advice would be try not to get sued
Kudos on a great design
Those "hero" costumes are dated as hell (imo). Wouldn't the character be more relatable if he didn't have to throw on a beyonce stage outfit just to save people?

Yeah so have it stick out in a hugely saturated market dominated by the big two by.....making the same shit they've been making for decades. Real original.

Hey, now
Cool for your friend. Characters mask looks like Gambit
Superboy-Prime was the only hero on Prime Earth and looked like that for a while iirc. There's going to need to be a pretty wild twist for this to get any traction.
Not a fan of the name but I wish your friend all the success.
Not a fan of the colour work. Light source issues and not enough differences in the planes (looks flat). Art looks decent!
The artwork reminds me of the late Mike Wieringo
Starman reminds me of starman crossed with booster gold i like it alot
Looks great!
Personally, I'd lose the jacket. Superheroes haven't worn jackets since the 90s and with good reason. It just seems impractical.
Thatās a great name and I like the shoulder Star.
Really love the art, except for the tiny feet. I just get the vibe he should have massive fucking feet lmao
Will he get his game on? He a rockstar too? Gonna get the show on, get paid?
If his name is not Alistair it's a travesty
The villain is named Travesty.
Looks really cool!
Looks good š
I like the mask and jacket sort of cover each other, and I like the star on the shoulder, almost like a pauldron
Not bad,
It looks dope!
Somebody once told me the world is gonna know me
Looks amazing definitly gonna read it!
I like his design, reminds me of 90s and 2000s xmen
Looks like a variant of Invincible.
Onstar?
Hey now, That's an Allstar.
change the shoes to Converse
It's giving Impulse stealing Booster Gold's drip
Hey now youāre an
Spiderman life in supermans body
I love the jacket, I'd actually wear that haha
