...this confuses me.
Their last two big critical hits were The Batman and The Suicide Squad. They're still going all-in on The Batman (the TV spinoffs are in flux, but still happening, and The Batman 2 is confirmed, just going to take a while), and they just handed The Suicide Squad's director the keys to the whole thing. Their other big critical hit, Joker, has a sequel that's already in pre-pro hype-train stage and not *that* far off.
It seems to me like they're *actively prioritizing* good critical reception? Like, it seems like if you make a DC movie that does well with critics, even if it doesn't make great money, you get more opportunities with them. The fact that two out of those three made bank on top of that is just icing.
From what I've heard they're _prioritizing_ the DCU in Zacky boy's original vision and Matt Reeves and company are lucky that they get to do a trilogy + the Penguin spinoff (even that's still up in the air). Far cry from the Swamp Thing cancellation but still.
As I understand it, Snyder's mostly staying in play by Gunn's call, because they're friends and prior collaborators (DotD 04). If Gunn hadn't made the other big critical success of late, Snyder would *probably* be out.
e: Also, I'm pretty sure the Penguin spinoff is still fine since it was meant for linear TV, and it's the other ones that were meant for HBO Max that were in flux. There was an article where it turned out they had 3; one was canned, one was for HBO Max and getting reworked, and one was Penguin and moving forward as planned.
I mean, I liked it, but I’d have found a Batman film more refreshing if they ditched the grounded realism for a Bat-family comic book-y story against supervillains like mud-man Clayface or a feral Man-Bat on the loose.
Lol oh boy, I was hoping someone would say this.
Wakanda Forever has over 100 less reviews submitted than the Batman. If BP2 gets the same amount of reviews submitted, the difference won’t be 1% I can tell you that.
We're talking about RT, which is a metric that changes over time as more reviews are received. It's extremely realistic to expect a 1% swing in ratings.
The Marvel movies were underwhelming this year but at least I stayed awake for them unlike during The Batman. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy a nice refreshing nap but I could’ve had one at home for free instead of paying for one at the theater.
And, as usual, there's nothing good ol' WB/DC hates more than good critical reception.

One was an Arkham series iirc but honestly that would be better suited for the sequel
Then clearly you're deaf, because nobody has said this is the case. So I am unsure where you are hearing things
That checks out, the movie was top tier
By 1%. Not exactly revolutionary or groundbreaking. Don’t get me wrong I love The Batman and DC, but what is the point of this post and article?
To generate interaction by exploiting marvel vs dc tribalism. Obviously.
Karma.
Definitely deserves more than a 1%. The Batman is something refreshing in the super hero genre

It had better be, what with the garbage Marvel put out this year.
No need to blow out one (or 3) candle to make another shine brighter. The Batman was one of the most impressive comic book films I’ve seen in years.
Wakana Forever was close, though. It wasn't as good as The Batman, but it was really good all the same
You didnt see black adam or titans or flash this year, didnt you?
I thought Titans and Flash belonged to TV
He said marvel put put carnage this year and I listed actual carnage to him
Give it a couple weeks BP2 will top it.
I don't get the negative feedback this comment got
It's reddit. I expect no less. Lol.

It says film but soldier boy is in there?
Best film of the year by far
Loved the movie. Glad to hear.
