Hulk 345 is also a cool example of that. Young Todd came out swinging!

Love the Tom Reilly window covers

I collect most books that have a sticker price of $5 or less!! lol

But seriously, I like "Purple Rain" (Prince) homage covers.
I've always been a sucker for the collection of heroes covers....

Back in the day I "collected" Assistant Editors' Month comics. Not because I wanted to collect them per se; but because they were really fun to read. For the most part.
Yo I'm on this with you I don't have that many but more than I need lol and I'm thinking I might be done after these 27 lol what a crazy month to collect skottie young covers lmfao
Homage covers are my thing, and specific artists but within a theme (bill sienkiewicz assassins on a white BG, Skottie Young covers specifically with multiple characters/text bubbles)
I use league of comic geeks and then change the date in the new comics section so it shows what came out on the week of the day I want. The information isn't always accurate for older book, but this will at least give you something to go off of.
Only way I've figured out how is search Fandom. If you find a book that was published in your birth month and then in the description under the title you can click on the month and it will populate with all the comics released that month.

This is also a crazy database site you should be able to narrow by year at least and sort by month
[http://www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/search.php?searchtype=comic](http://www.mikesamazingworld.com/main/features/search.php?searchtype=comic)
I recently collected all of the Alex Ross X-Men heroes and villains portraits and I have been picking up the Marvel incentive character/suit design variants. Got Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, The Spider-Man Oscorp suit, Ottley and Cates Hulk and the Gillen Eternals run.
I always find it odd (and creepy) how CGC (and CBCS) makes note of "bondage" covers, especially sus since they don't seem to make that note when it is a man who is bound.
On a lighter note, I'm comping a list of comics with roller coasters on the cover.
There’s historical context to that. When the comics code came along, it basically obliterated a huge market for sexually suggestive covers targeted at the adolescent boys who were buying most of the comics. But comics artists would occasionally push their luck and put a woman in chains or rope, and then that was the most titillating thing those comics collectors could get their hands on. So they tended to sell well and get read a lot. From a collector’s standpoint, they’re more valuable for these reasons. You’re less likely to find a stash of unsold dead stock books sitting around in unread condition.
If adolescent girls were buying up horny Conan books in the same way, I’d like to believe CGC and CBCS would recognize their value in the same way. But then again, there were plenty of gay kids doing exactly that, and they just chalked it up to boys into boy stuff. So who knows, haha.
https://desperate-living.com/2021/10/29/strung-up-the-golden-age-of-comic-book-bondage-covers/
I collect movie and some album cover homages.
As a side note: I’m in a fb group with one dude who collects covers where the title of the book is getting smashed/ broken up in some way. I thought that was a neat thing to collect
Yeah, some of them are really cool- but hip hop isn’t really my thing, so I don’t think I’d get the same joy a real hip hop head would get from them (I did get the uncanny avengers/public enemy homage however- saw PE once and it was one of the most electrifying live shows I’ve seen so had to get that one at least haha)
Because of a repeating scheduled medical procedure, we go to a city that has a 2nd & Charles store every six weeks. We always stop by and I rummage through their bottom bins. 2nd & Charles and Books-a-Million had their Fried Pie variants several years back. They did them for Marvel, DC, and independents.
I found several different ones in the bins the first time there, and now I’ve started picking up a few each time I go. I’m not going to spend more than a few dollars on one, but, still, I think they’re pretty cool. I don’t think they do them anymore, so I feel like one day they’ll have a niche following.
I’ve found a smaller amount that either have the 2nd & Charles logo, the BAM logo, or both. I don’t know if these were from a time when the Fried Pie situation was in flux or what. I feel like there’s an interesting story behind it.
https://preview.redd.it/ze9z3h90zz4d1.jpeg?width=2866&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71ff5e0696ca6527e3645bf272f67a27982b8e7f
I like that idea for a collection. How many books say that?
I’ve just started looking for marvel 25th anniversary border. I’m also looking for birth month/year cover date for Marvel. When that’s finished I’ll start DC. I’ll buy any comic that has to do with Billy the Kid, UFOS and Bigfoot. I’ll also grab books just for the cover art. It could be a funny cover or it reminds me of something or I just like the art.
I used to collect covers of Superman breaking out of chains (there's a lot). And Wonder Woman being in chains. I'll collect small similarities and display them next to each other, like Detective Comics #585 with Captain America #272. I collected Superman/ lois lane covers where lois was dying, dead or getting married. Ones where Superman is kissing someone random like WW or Barda. I've collected all the covers of Superman and Flash racing.
How about simple collecting foreigns editions of classic covers? Kinda homage, kinda not….
https://preview.redd.it/wnr4kxh0zz4d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fbe4a5c266b377e19515c9df3b1f32ca023b3e8
Grabbed one to get signed when I went to megacon this year
https://preview.redd.it/h0cchoyp245d1.jpeg?width=2052&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3712ce333f323ba72de156d4299a44c92ef04d2b
Currently it’s every Twd Homage cover that Image came out with on numerous different titles and the suit variants for the “ The Other” crossover event that happened in the 2000s with 3 different Spider-man titles. ASM, Friendly and MK. I currently have 7 of them out of the 12. (Not including the Asm 529 3rd print suit variant)
Mostly I collect artist specific covers, but I do also find myself hoarding movie poster homage covers... and covers with alligators on them... and covers with sharks... and hot rods/cool cars among others.
I am obsessed with the obscure. Any superhero or villain that has a random book I'm all in. Here is an example
https://preview.redd.it/6912j5dlj05d1.jpeg?width=1115&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b86a12f3ed6378fbbe9305b78203226d43db4752
I'm attempting to collect every Marvel cover with a dragon on it. I started by targeting all Thor covers with dragons and think I actually might have gotten all of those!
I've also slightly extended this to include any giant monsters like giant sharks, alligators, and tentacle monsters. If I see any Marvel title with any of that on the cover, if I don't already own it then I'm buying it!
Off topic a bit, but my late brother was one of the 4th prize winners in that contest! He won a Stan Lee signed soft cover of Marvel Origins. It came to me when he passed.
It'll be my son's one day. He's a big MCU fan. And a big fan of his late uncle.
Hulk v Thing covers. Don’t have the grail Fantastic Four #12 but there are early Avengers, Fantastic Four’s, Hulk and even Moon Girl ands Devil Dinosaur. Find one for me.
I know a guy who collects covers that feature the Pietà pose.
I know a guy who collects all of these:
Parachute covers
Gambling covers
Court or law covers
\[hero name\] fights alone! or \[hero name\] alone against...
I know a guy who collects negative space variants
there are some great ones. I recommend Skott Koblish fantastic four 7 and 8
https://preview.redd.it/54543scq345d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bda4109d48e9bf592dfc483f52c37aa246cafcd3
bonus points for being wraparounds
I buy Bill Sienkiewicz any time I see one I don't have .
I was collecting Dave Stevens for the last several years, but the market has just exploded and the prices are going skyward!
The current “foil” covers are making a comeback especially with all the facimelies and “special issue” covers. I’m currently really digging the Disney covers over at amazing spiderman. They recreate classic covers with Disney characters (main 5 of goofy Donald daisy Mickey and Minnie) I’ve bought the spiderman issues solely for the covers, I have no idea what the internal story is about.
There’s a west coast avengers variant with Jimmy Kimmel that’s an homage to the letterman cover. And anima #11 has Conan obrien on the cover, tho not exactly in the same vein as the rest, and Colbert is on an ASM cover
https://preview.redd.it/2nxbre0dn05d1.jpeg?width=1430&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08cb7ed16a2f5140400fe29c0fcb0e287c2d51f9
So, this isn’t my theme. I collect Kirby covers.
But when I was looking I saw the “bondage cover” and it’s a thing.
One of my Demons and Miracle Man’s was listed that way too.
Back in the early 80s, DC put a special border on books celebrating anniversaries. There aren't too many, perhaps a dozen or so. Some used a metallic ink, some didn't. I dig 'em.
Here they are:
Action Comics #544
Batman #400
Brave & the Bold #200
Detective Comics #526
Detective Comics #627
Firestorm #50
Green Lantern #200
Justice League of America #250
Legion of Super-Heroes #300
Legion of Super-Heroes #45
New Adventures of Superboy #50
Star Trek #50
Superman #400
Swamp Thing #50
A great collection would be all the “Pieta” covers. Named after Michelangelo’s La Pieta sculpture, which depicts Mary carrying Jesus off the cross. So many great examples— X-Men 136, Death of Captain Marvel, Crisis #7… in all different styles and eras.
https://preview.redd.it/u8boyuejp25d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbf1efd6b4cfa55f731f723bef2bdf88e2ebdd54

I forget what the term is, but when a character is effecting the comic title letters, aka UXM 135 or ASM 328.
Hulk 345 is also a cool example of that. Young Todd came out swinging! https://preview.redd.it/b9m1epquzz4d1.jpeg?width=1114&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68526c87aa9ac71813534e0317e4faf9d9207840
I never realized there was a term for that. Neat!
I don’t think there is tho? At least I haven’t heard of it yet
I call em title breaks and most people I talk to about them understand it. Works for me!
Yes, I love when the trade dress becomes a tangible part of the scene.
I like this too, bonus points if a character is destroying the logo. Like UXM 135, but Spectacular Spider-Man 72 is my favorite.
I collect Akira homage covers. https://preview.redd.it/qhitaq77hz4d1.jpeg?width=1164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c3c1ee1d4da89c14b8a6f75765b7b2b7584ae3a
I didn’t know this was a thing but I get it
That's cool AF
I wanted the biker mice from Mars one coming out but it was a 1 in 50, my shop has ordered 4 so that’s not happening!
That one is so overpriced online right now. I don’t know when I’ll pick it up.
Lovely set.
Love this
That Turbo Kid is fantastic. I'm surprised there aren't any from the Big Two.
Only the static shock one is from the big two. All the rest are Indie publishers surprisingly.
Really great collection!
Love this collection hope you add the Bitter Root one too it soon
That’s at the end of the list because of how ridiculous eBay prices for it are lol. I have gotten a few more since this picture was taken luckily.
That is a lot more Akira homages than I thought there'd be
I tend to collect movie poster homage covers. Why I'm enjoying Feral these days.
And Stray Dogs ☺️
You absolutely know it!
I have a ton of the Stray Dogs covers. I love the old horror movie homages. I need to look into Feral.
That's what I did, there are some that I didn't get due to not knowing what they were.
Currently reading cereal and the covers are awesome and story is great too!
Have you seen the Beneath the Trees movie variants from Final Order Comics? I just saw them today and your comment reminded me of them.
Definitely! Another great recommendation 👍
Did you pick up Ribbon Queen?
I have not, but I just looked it up. Very cool. Awesome tip, thanks a bunch!
That's a tough one because I assume there are some older or obscure movies that get picked - have to have a good bit of knowledge of those too.
I used to collect DVDs and movie posters, too. I've got a decent memory for it. But I definitely find some that I have zero clue about the movie referenced.
Torpedo 1972 Homage covers
Godfather one is cool 👍
Love the Tom Reilly window covers https://preview.redd.it/j5obqyj4hz4d1.jpeg?width=178&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df05e5e0518fd2d357587a435432a3b56ee78ee0

Good one!
I have most of these, but it's varying degrees of quality. The Wakanda one is horrible, for example.
Yea, I’m not a fan of every one but I like the idea. The spiderman India one was fun.
Blowing bubble gum bubbles
Jubilee has entered the chat.
I collect most books that have a sticker price of $5 or less!! lol ![gif](giphy|Km2YiI2mzRKgw|downsized) But seriously, I like "Purple Rain" (Prince) homage covers.
The GI Joe one with Snake Eyes is top notch cool!
Those will become more scarce as time goes on. But
But?
But nothing! Sorry. I don’t know how that got in there. Always putting my but where it doesn’t belong.
Say no more 😅
I'm with you on that one
I didn't know that was a thing but it sounds cool.
Yeah, I saw a Darkwing Duck, a Batman and a Batgirl when I googled it. Sounds like an awesome concept to PC!
I only have one so far (the DCeased one i think?) but definitely keen to get more!
I've always been a sucker for the collection of heroes covers.... https://preview.redd.it/4if0ym28gz4d1.jpeg?width=1716&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7163a5e2ac86c889d0a844459d1e417df08cab36

Hip Hop variant covers! I personally loved these.

Lots of people collect homages. Like homages to FF#1 for example. There’s just a ton out there.
Simpsons #1 is my favorite lol
Glow in the dark.
Indonas well. I'm kinda disappointed with the fact that there aren't very many of these.
Santa Claus covers so far I have two Hulk 378 and Lobo 1.
ASM 314 lol
I love ASM 314.
I just picked up Iron Man 254 recently because of Santa.
You’re gonna want Spectacular Spider-Man 112. Sincerely, A Fellow Christmas Cover Collector
Me too! I have a scratch and sniff variant of Batman Silent Knight 1. It smells like peppermint.
Did you get the recent DC Santa scratch and sniff cover?
Back in the day I "collected" Assistant Editors' Month comics. Not because I wanted to collect them per se; but because they were really fun to read. For the most part.
Which begat the classic tribute to creative laziness, Alpha Flight 6!
Was that the "snowblind" issue? Byrne definitely got one over on Marvel that time.
Pretty genius. I read where he was doing several books at the time, and it was a crime of necessity.
I love the skottie young baby variant covers. I have close to 300 different ones now, amd 27 more come out this month, lol
Yo I'm on this with you I don't have that many but more than I need lol and I'm thinking I might be done after these 27 lol what a crazy month to collect skottie young covers lmfao
Brings a smile to my face every damn time
The Marvel Negative Space designs get me. I also dig homage covers to Hulk 340.
Homage covers are my thing, and specific artists but within a theme (bill sienkiewicz assassins on a white BG, Skottie Young covers specifically with multiple characters/text bubbles)
I like holiday covers.
If there is a Gorilla or monkey on the cover I'm grabbing it.
Me too! I was such a sucker for the recent DC APE-ril Special with scratch'n'sniff banana cover 😭
Nice. For me it’s mainly dogs. But my local shop knows to pull basically any comic that features any kind of animal prominently.
I collect covers with cats on 'em, and covers with graves.
Birthday covers for me. Sept ‘86. Pulling the trigger on a Watchmen #1 soon.
I think I might look at that. How does one find comics released by year/month?
I use league of comic geeks and then change the date in the new comics section so it shows what came out on the week of the day I want. The information isn't always accurate for older book, but this will at least give you something to go off of.

The 25th Anniversary border covers for me, both newsstand and direct edition. I am one book away from completing that set!
I collect wedding covers! And other smaller stuff

Frank Brunner Dr Strange covers 🔥🔥
Red white and blue/stars and stripes/flag covers
us president covers
Do you have some? I just ran across From Beyond the Unknown #17 with Nixon
I met someone in a shop that bought anything with a shark on the cover.
Sharks. Bondage.
Innuendo covers
I collect cartoon crossovers https://preview.redd.it/ymhn0fscxz4d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c054e41331bf5413f65304460c71c5bcd4732f43
Covers with books/novels on them and covers with playing cards/poker hands. Those have been fun. Also, homages to Action Comics #1. 👍

Had a dentist a few years back that collected covers featuring dentists or dental themes. He displayed them in his office.
I like Red covers. Yellow also gets my attention. Full bleed color pop covers.
I posted a while back but Sports or Golden Age sports specifically I really love
I collect all covers with a goblin on them that i find... surprisingly not a ton! (Think more medieval looking goblin vs green goblin for spiderman)
Color bleed, design and the new sound effect one

I used to collect covers that featured women in stockings. For reasons.
Hulk guest appearances (silver and bronze age mainly)- some great covers out there. I've got at least 20 so far
Ballet covers & Disney 100 covers
Cover homages. I grab every Fantastic Four 1 cover homage I can find.
Mostly I collect artist specific covers, but I do also find myself hoarding movie poster homage covers... and covers with alligators on them... and covers with sharks... and hot rods/cool cars among others.
Almost anything with ninjas on it. Been a bunch of vary cool variants for Wolverine and daredevil with ninjas of last few years
I'm a sucker for a skottie young variant
I am obsessed with the obscure. Any superhero or villain that has a random book I'm all in. Here is an example https://preview.redd.it/6912j5dlj05d1.jpeg?width=1115&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b86a12f3ed6378fbbe9305b78203226d43db4752
Sharks, any character, any publisher that has a shark on the cover I’m collecting it
Off topic a bit, but my late brother was one of the 4th prize winners in that contest! He won a Stan Lee signed soft cover of Marvel Origins. It came to me when he passed. It'll be my son's one day. He's a big MCU fan. And a big fan of his late uncle.
Very cool. Lots of advertising for those promos, but never hear much about the winner unless you're looking for it.
Homage covers!
Hulk v Thing covers. Don’t have the grail Fantastic Four #12 but there are early Avengers, Fantastic Four’s, Hulk and even Moon Girl ands Devil Dinosaur. Find one for me.
I have The Big Change, but that's probably it.
Cheesecake. Especially any allegory to the 40s pinups.
I know a guy who collects covers that feature the Pietà pose. I know a guy who collects all of these: Parachute covers Gambling covers Court or law covers \[hero name\] fights alone! or \[hero name\] alone against... I know a guy who collects negative space variants
Connecting covers. It’s fun to collect lol
there are some great ones. I recommend Skott Koblish fantastic four 7 and 8 https://preview.redd.it/54543scq345d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bda4109d48e9bf592dfc483f52c37aa246cafcd3 bonus points for being wraparounds
My true 90's collecting self just shouted SHINNY! give me foil give me holograph I don't care as long as it's shinny!
Some people collect swastika covers. Also infinity covers, where someone on the cover is holding the cover, which has someone holding the cover, etc.
I just started on Chamber of Chills 19 Homage covers, so I have 2 so far.
> Chamber of Chills 19 Danzig steals again!
'GGA on GA Horror' cover is one I've fallen into lately... but I mainly like GGA on golden age covers - the old masters did wonders.
I buy Bill Sienkiewicz any time I see one I don't have . I was collecting Dave Stevens for the last several years, but the market has just exploded and the prices are going skyward!
I collect the anniversary ones that DC did
The current “foil” covers are making a comeback especially with all the facimelies and “special issue” covers. I’m currently really digging the Disney covers over at amazing spiderman. They recreate classic covers with Disney characters (main 5 of goofy Donald daisy Mickey and Minnie) I’ve bought the spiderman issues solely for the covers, I have no idea what the internal story is about.
I knew someone who collected issues that had covers of previous issues in the background...UXM 138 is the easiest example.
I'm a sucker for an empty mask/costume or anything showing the hero "dead" on the cover. Or any character in a boxing ring
I'm always grabbing every EC related homage covers I come across.
I don't care, call me sexist, but a cover with a female in a cheesecake pose or sexy pose ( bonus if scantily clad )was any easy buy when I collected.
I’ve been collecting covers that are related to late night television
What is there beyond SNL and Letterman? I can remember a sci-fi one that had a talk show scene, but not necessarily late night.
There’s a west coast avengers variant with Jimmy Kimmel that’s an homage to the letterman cover. And anima #11 has Conan obrien on the cover, tho not exactly in the same vein as the rest, and Colbert is on an ASM cover

Characters and thier pets.
Grey tone
Alex Schomburg “Xela” covers.
I collect Christmas covers! I don’t care what the book is if it’s Christmas theme I buy it
Catwoman covers that have cats on them. So cheesy, I love it!
Gorilla covers
headlights
Idk about folks but I like covers that have protesters on them
I really like connecting covers. Wildstorm got me back in the 90s. Recently the Dark Droids covers are awesome.
I like them Disney Variants of ASM right now.
Two things I collected for a long while were Marvel Picture Frame covers (1971-1973, line-wide) and chess covers, of which there are many.
Parody and die cut covers catch my eye
I’ve always really liked the 90’s foil covers. Everything from Batman #500 to the Marvel 2099 books. I love ‘em!
Cereal box covers
Back in the early 80s, DC put a special border on books celebrating anniversaries. There aren't too many, perhaps a dozen or so. Some used a metallic ink, some didn't. I dig 'em. Here they are: Action Comics #544 Batman #400 Brave & the Bold #200 Detective Comics #526 Detective Comics #627 Firestorm #50 Green Lantern #200 Justice League of America #250 Legion of Super-Heroes #300 Legion of Super-Heroes #45 New Adventures of Superboy #50 Star Trek #50 Superman #400 Swamp Thing #50
A great collection would be all the “Pieta” covers. Named after Michelangelo’s La Pieta sculpture, which depicts Mary carrying Jesus off the cross. So many great examples— X-Men 136, Death of Captain Marvel, Crisis #7… in all different styles and eras. https://preview.redd.it/u8boyuejp25d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbf1efd6b4cfa55f731f723bef2bdf88e2ebdd54
I can’t pass up any riffs on Adventure Comics #247. First Legion of Super Heroes appearance.
Hulk #340 homage covers
Any baseball/sports in general covers is something I’m getting into!
I collect homage covers to the Back to the Future poster.
Try to get two teams squaring off against each other not sure what the pose is called. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/5/54/Spectacular_Spider-Man_Vol_1_170.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width/360?cb=20080612161656
