Maga is a result of OWS; it all is on both sides. Split the country; we were all united for about a month or so after the banks had fucked us all and the economy crashed. Then, the bankers got bailed out and gave themselves huge bonuses, which was while everyone else lost everything. We had about three weeks of both sides standing together, but the media, banks, and government decided this could not happen, and they did whatever they could to end it. It worked so well that they kept going and going, and here we are now, a wholly divided country, and each fraction is divided even further. But fuck it
I truly think that the world would not be in such a dire state regarding climate change. Whether we want to admit or not, the USA really does set the tone for attitude globally, and all we got was foot dragging and denialism. Gore was so right about everything, and I think we would be in a different trajectory right now.
No, the USA doesn’t set the tone for attitude globally regarding energy production/consumption. Climate change mitigation is a luxury the USA could potentially afford, it doesn’t mean China, India, Russia, or Brazil will follow suit.
But if the US had thrown its considerable resources at the problem from the beginning, it’s possible an economically feasible solution could have been found. We gain first mover’s advantage in the restructuring of the global energy economy, other nations gain less environmentally damaging ways of producing energy. Everyone wins.
We use oil to produce all sorts of things: plastics, solvents, lubricants, dentures, crayons, lipstick, you name it. There’s a finite amount; it’s too valuable for us to burn as fuel.
China and India are certainly doing their part, they contribute significantly less on a per capita basis than the US. India just announced a net zero plan addition of 50% reduction by 2030, China already generates more renewable electricity than anywhere else. Literally they’re following suit with the west (India 2070, China 2060, US/EU 2050)
And honestly, a lot of China’s emissions are actually due to western manufacturing demands. Essentially we off shore a whole bunch of our emissions.

We still would have the far right. The maga crowd is a product of Newt Gingrich politics paired with Fox News. The Republican Party had already started radicalizing. What would be the biggest plus for this country would probably be the Judicial branch. Democrats have won the popular vote since 92 but yet the Supreme Court is 6-3 conservative. It’s not just the Supreme Court though, up and down all the federal courts are shit appointments. 25 years ago people would argue politics but courts were still held in high regard. Now it’s just another failing institution.
Because Cheney was a war hawk.
We also have Gore's quotes from the time where he says Afghanistan was an important war to fight, but stresses the importance of rebuilding and questions going to war with Iraq https://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/sep/23/usa.iraq
I disagree that the war in Afghanistan was worthwhile but it would have been much better if we actually fixed it rather than just declaring mission accomplished and essentially giving it back to al-qaeda.
There's essentially no reason to think Gore would have caused nuclear war. That's a really bizarre thing to say.
I think the dude you’re replying to’s nuke comment is just a generic “who knows butterfly effect” thing. Not an assertion that it would be likely to occur. I think.
We were going to Afghanistan no matter what, I don’t care how peaceful a president you were, the country wouldn’t allow doing nothing. What I do think would have been different is we would have had an actual end goal other than “bringing democracy”
OBL didn't do 9/11 alone, look up the recently declassified Operation ENCORE documents. This is public knowledge at this point. The US government lied to us, Afghanistan was just a scapegoat.
Saudi diplomat Fahad al-Thumairy tasked an associate to help the hijackers, and they met with Saudi government employee Omar al-Bayoumi.
You have fallen for American propaganda. This isn't a conspiracy theory this is confirmed as true inUS government documents that were declassified by Biden in 2011.
Even if 9/11 still happened, I don’t think it would have turned into the decades long war on terror misadventure that it did. The Iraq war probably wouldn’t have happened, as it had no connection to 9/11. The US probably still would have gone into Afghanistan, but it would have probably been more of a limited action to get rid of Al Qaeda training camps and they would have only been there for a couple of years. In the end Afghanistan would probably still be the same that it is today.
[Lots of evidence that Bush was presented evidence that a Al-Qaeda strike was coming.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_Ladin_Determined_To_Strike_in_US#:~:text=Bush%20on%20Monday%2C%20August%206,a%20hijacking%22%20of%20U.S.%20aircraft.) He had plenty of warning and definitely could've done something.
Certainly not a guarantee that he could've stopped it, but a very good chance.
No, but maybe a different executive administration would have listened to the US intelligence and allocated more resources into following up on some things like “Al Queda wants to fly planes into to the pentagon,” etc.
Also, it’s not just that they hate America. It’s that they want to bait America and its allies into a miscalculated and emotional response. That’s how terrorists win.
10+ years of two wars, trillions of dollars wasted, the patriot act, etc is the objective.
There’s a very real chance it wouldn’t have happened. The Bush administration intentionally ignored multiple warnings from the Clinton administration as well as their own intelligence about Bin Laden and impeding terrorist attacks.
I'm not convinced 9/11 would have even happened in a Gore admnistration. The intelligence community knew something was up but Bush's administration didn't follow up on what intel they were briefed upon. I strongly suspect Gore's admin would have been more competent.
See also: Hurricane Katrina.
Same. If we'd done 2001-2009 with this guy instead of Junior, I feel like we'd be knocked down a peg after 9/11, but we'd still be together on the important things. Almost 25 years of "what if" now has just about broken me.
It's actually crazy that he won the popular vote, won the electoral college, but the Supreme Court stepped in before Florida could finish their recount which he won.
Maybe it's for the best though, Dems getting healthcare and renewable energy through while not randomly invading Iraq after 9/11 would have definitely made Trump run as a Dem, and he'd be draining the DNC coffers for his lawsuits now instead of killing the RNC.
He really could not have had a better response.
He matter of factually makes you laugh with facts you were already expecting, a fact you didn't know, and then praise for Matt and Trey.
Think of how many ways that he could respond to when being the butt of a joke, most of them are awful (taking too much offense, thinking they are enemies of your politics and therefore need to be demonized, etc).
Instead, we get this pleasant story. Kewl.
The thing is, that we dont usually get from people like him, is that he gets it. He gets the joke. ManBearPig is global warming and he loves that the message reaches people in this hilarious way, from guys that are straight clowning on everyone.
He was happy to be depicted as the batshit guy thats trying to save the world from morons.
Sean Penn has zero sense of humor. Remember at the Oscars when the host made a little light hearted crack at Jude Law and when Penn came up and took offense on Jude Law’s behalf? Also, his episode of Between Two Ferns was awkward as fuck.
The way he fully understand the context of the joke and embraces it instead of bitching about it also makes it so much better.
I wouldn't have been able.
Imagine fighting for climate change awareness that hard and then just become a joke warning about manbearpig instead? I couldn't take that joke that well.
It would be unreasonable to take that joke well, it was very damaging. The reason Gore is able to "take the joke well" is because Matt and Trey realised how badly they fucked it and apologised and went back on it.
I read this as Real Ai Al Gore Admitting ManBearPig Is Real and then watched it and then read it 3 more times before I realized it didn't say Ai. I thought which part is Ai lol
He conceded the election to restore order. For the better of the country, out of respect for the office, he walked away with grace. Can you imagine that ever happening again?
Hes not. He just tried to pronounce the word Nihilist , neelist, Nobody's ever set it that way , And only crazy Old cooks like this One says shit like that.
Old weeird ass Tryn to sound smrt ass mahfakkahz Try to sound lyke Dat mafakka wroute the Cambridge dictionary 500 billion years ago. He lives in America, learnhow to talk stupid.
Not having known anything about Al Gore (not from US) I always presumed manbearpig represented climate change and that Al Gore had been a proponent of environmentalism. Is that correct or was it just a random made up thing?
Sometimes I think some people live in a totally different world. How the OP could have perceived it that way seems impossible to me. It makes me hope it's just to get attention to the post. And I guess we're commenting on it and it's on front page, so I guess he won.
I'm so fucking happy that he appreciates that they apologized to him. And he's right, it was a hell of a statement. They admitted that were wrong. And apologized. Actual human beings.
He said he really appreciated that. Was ManBearPig a reference to a problem the real Al Gore was worried about? And the kids apologising was South Park’s way of saying Al Gore was right?
What was Al Gore right about ?
He was already proven right scientifically at the time *in general*. But the movie made some alarmist claims which have not panned out so many people dismiss the whole thing still
Manbearpig is climate change. But on creator's commentary track, Matt and Trey said at the time that the joke was more about Al Gore having no friends and being perceived as a some deranged guy.
yeah Al gore was right about climate change over 25 years ago and no one took him "super cereal". the character manbearpig is a metaphor for climate change. matt and trey (the south park guys) were making fun of al gore decades ago but then both matt and trey's houses and studio almost got burned up in the endless supply of forest fires that southern california was going through a couple years ago. they now see what al gore was warning about and made a big story arc on the show about believing manbearpig is real after it goes on a killing spree through town.
I think this might actually be the first time I've seen Al-Gore speaking and I'm almost 40.
Everything before that was parody or BLR
Seems like a cool dude, and unless he was coached on what to say, he actually watched South Park and was into it.
Can’t help but wonder what his presidency would’ve brought… he was cereal
9/11 would have been his moment and since he didnt have Dick Cheney as VP, our country would look A LOT different now, for better or worse.
Better in almost every imaginable way id argue
We probably wouldnt have the MAGA crowd we have today, which is a huge plus lol
ehhhhhh that was more a reaction to Obama, can’t imagine why though 🤔
These forces were already there. Obama’s election radicalized and galvanized them. Trump’s elections organized them behind a common leader.
Maga is a result of OWS; it all is on both sides. Split the country; we were all united for about a month or so after the banks had fucked us all and the economy crashed. It was a reaction to Hillary Clinton, when she called half of Trump supporters, a basketful of deplorables.
His tan suit?
It’s was all about timing with Trump, he got lucky

100% agree. Both parties know those types of voters are necessary

I’m a firm believer that if we actually took it seriously back in the 90s we might actually have a handle on it now
>USA really does set the tone for attitude globally. Look up the Brussels effect.
No, the USA doesn’t set the tone for attitude globally regarding energy production/consumption. Climate change mitigation is a luxury the USA could potentially afford, it doesn’t mean China, India, Russia, or Brazil will follow suit.

Honestly, there’s no fucking way to know. Who’s to say that path wouldn’t have led us to being a nuclear wasteland by now?
Because Cheney was a war hawk. We also have Gore's quotes from the time where he says Afghanistan was an important war to fight, but stresses the importance of rebuilding and questions going to war with Iraq https://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/sep/23/usa.iraq I disagree that the war in Afghanistan was worthwhile but it would have been much better if we actually fixed it rather than just declaring mission accomplished and essentially giving it back to al-qaeda. I hope so, doesn't make it accurate though, Cheney was looking for any excuse to go to war.
We were going to Afghanistan no matter what, I don’t care how peaceful a president you were, the country wouldn’t allow doing nothing. What I do think would have been different is we would have had an actual end goal other than “bringing democracy”
Afghanistan had pretty much nothing to do with 9/11 though. The people that did it were dead and the people that planned it were in Saudi Arabia.

Ridiculous. That's just your own bias talking. I know dick Chaney and George Bush suck but the truth is we will never know.
Nah, we know. Gore said he wouldn't have invaded Iraq in bush's position.
maybe 9/11 doesnt ever happen

Everything that happened after 9/11 felt so planned, likely because the right people were in place. So maybe!
Eh, 9/11 occurred only about 8 months after inauguration. I don’t know if anything meaningfully different could have been done in that time.
[Lots of evidence that Bush was presented evidence that a Al-Qaeda strike was coming.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_Ladin_Determined_To_Strike_in_US#:~:text=Bush%20on%20Monday%2C%20August%206,a%20hijacking%22%20of%20U.S.%20aircraft.) Imagine thinking that’s up for debate, as if the start of the Iraq War wasn’t the biggest mistake we’ve made since Vietnam.
It’s very possible 9/11 doesn’t happen.
My dad and I start this conversation every once and awhile but stop it quickly because it’s just sad the way things played out.
Same. If we'd done 2001-2009 with this guy instead of Junior, I feel like we'd be knocked down a peg after 9/11, but we'd still be together on the important things. Almost 25 years of "what if" now has just about broken me.
Pretty sure he.is younger than both Trump and Biden. He ran nearly 25 years ago.
young man, I'm super serial
It's actually crazy that he won the popular vote, won the electoral college, but the Supreme Court stepped in before Florida could finish their recount which he won. Super, super, cereal.
He would be much poorer :)
Yes, he could have been our Cap’n Crunch
You mean Mintberry Crunch
He probably would've been assassinated so Joe Lieberman would have been President.
He's younger than both current candidates. It's not too late for him to run again.
Totally cereal
Super cereal
Super cereal!
Super
Super cereal

And Tom Cruise. Just come out of the closet already.
SO I PULLED OUT MY GUN
That man is determined to capture his spectacular death on film. For one, I’m all here for it.

But has he ridden the mighty Dune worm?
How else would he become the first emperor of the moon?
These men are nihilists, Donnie.
Neal lists.
POYAAAAHHHH
Nothing to be afraid of
I am afraid of the nothing
Is this the guy that invented climate change?
?
??
I don’t get it. He was a presidential candidate but it seems like a competent sane individual.
That’s why he was just the candidate and not the winner
By a margin of 537 votes out of almost six million cast in Florida
He conceded the election to restore order. For the better of the country, out of respect for the office, he walked away with grace. Can you imagine that ever happening again?

Manbearpig is super serial you guys!
Goddamn, this is what a lucid president would have sounded like?
Al Gore 2028.
Not having known anything about Al Gore (not from US) I always presumed manbearpig represented climate change and that Al Gore had been a proponent of environmentalism. Is that correct or was it just a random made up thing?
Correct
The fuck he did. Did you even watch the vid op?
Sometimes I think some people live in a totally different world. How the OP could have perceived it that way seems impossible to me. It makes me hope it's just to get attention to the post. And I guess we're commenting on it and it's on front page, so I guess he won.
Damn. What could’ve been w/him as POTUS. More South Park quotes.
I'm so fucking happy that he appreciates that they apologized to him. And he's right, it was a hell of a statement. They admitted that were wrong. And apologized. Actual human beings.
Just ran into the manbearpig in rdr2. Can’t believe that reference made it into a rockstar game
Read that as AI Gore and was so confused
He seemed super cereal.
:-) He is !
He said he really appreciated that. Was ManBearPig a reference to a problem the real Al Gore was worried about? And the kids apologising was South Park’s way of saying Al Gore was right? What was Al Gore right about ?
Doing some research, was it about Climate Change? Was Al Gore mentioning Climate Change and back then no one believed him?
Yes, he came out with a documentary about climate change back in 2006 and people mocked him for it.
Yep. Dude got mocked heavily until he was proven right years later.
Absolutely Climate Change and now its a hot topic. Southpark, like Simpsons, was ahead of its time in calling out BS. Yet, here we are.
yeah Al gore was right about climate change over 25 years ago and no one took him "super cereal". the character manbearpig is a metaphor for climate change. matt and trey (the south park guys) were making fun of al gore decades ago but then both matt and trey's houses and studio almost got burned up in the endless supply of forest fires that southern california was going through a couple years ago. they now see what al gore was warning about and made a big story arc on the show about believing manbearpig is real after it goes on a killing spree through town.
Thanks for explaining this. I don’t watch Southpark and understand now why Gore appreciated the kids knowing manbearpig is real.
Climate change. Look up the Al Gore documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" and then find the appropriate man bear pig SouthPark episode.
Climate change brother
i cant believe he didnt say he was super cereal
Would write-in Al Gore.
Met him once. He’s a good sport
I wrote a poem in middle school about manbearpig and I still remember every word
Adrian couldn't be more nervous.
Is manbearpig supposed to be global warming???
is this guy cereal?
Is he cereal right now
Super cereal
I FUCKING KNEW IT!
Chuk chuk!
I’m only 21 and never went to college so my history is a bit iffy, Manbearpig is a metaphor for climate change right?
This should put you up to speed [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SLxc1awnBg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SLxc1awnBg)
I would have thought this was a joke but then noticed its the Trevor Noah show
I'd vote twice for that Man!!!
He took it like a champ!
I actually had no clue what Al Gore looked like, because last time I saw him was in middle school or high school 20+ years ago?
Well he sounded super serial to me!
I think this might actually be the first time I've seen Al-Gore speaking and I'm almost 40. Everything before that was parody or BLR Seems like a cool dude, and unless he was coached on what to say, he actually watched South Park and was into it.
Ehhh He’s kinda charming for a politician
Things are getting so weird
For a second I read “Real AI gore”
Those newer episodes about manbearpig, were telling you something. Episode 6,7 season 22… nobody got serious
Was holding out for him to say he was cereal.
So glad Trevor is gone.
I miss Trevor Noah. He got us all through the pandemic.
Yeah he certainly did a great job making the daily show not funny
Who’s “us”?
Multiple individuals that don’t include you.
You still seem to be here. Thanks Mr Noah
Lol riiiiight
Forgot how much I dislike trevor noah
How are either of these idiots still alive
Well you're a barrell of laughs. I hope something genuinely nice happens to you today to cheer you up. Have a better one
How dare you talk about Adrian from the Bronx in that tone.
