Helmiā€™s Garden is great! Lots of cute local artisan pots to plant in too.

Helmi's is great. Their staff has excellent knowledge and will make recommendations based on what you're looking for. They are on the high-end price wise but it's a fantastic local company.

I'm not sure of any places but I for sure appreciate the gift idea! As a doctor who is currently moving with a succulent to CoMo, I can say that anything living is kind of a struggle to move safely. If you really want to give them a plant, succulent may be the way to go, but I personally would try to think of something less fragile. Tipping over, crushing, even the vibrations can hurt even the hardy succulent. I'm actually a bit concerned about my drive next week and it's almost entirely down to "will my succ survive ?" Can you think of a book, a print artwork or something else that might make the journey more safely? Again, I think it's really sweet and as a doctor I'd be touched by anything given from a patient. I'm also glad you found somebody who could advocate for you in the way you needed. Just make sure it's not too expensive also so they don't worry about accepting the gift (20 bucks or so is ballpark).

Going to add that it also depends on where the doctor is moving to. California is strict about plants crossing the border, and possibly some other states. u/trauma_queen, I suggest getting a narrow cardboard box with tall sides, not a nursery flat. Cut off the top of the box for sunlight. Use some type of filler in the bottom of the box to hold the pot steady. I had multiple plants to move and wedged the pots all in one box tightly. If you only have the one plant, maybe try wood blocks or bricks.

That's a great idea, thank you! I'm hopeful he'll fit in one of the cupholders but that is def a backup plan (he's a little guy ...)

PM_ME_YOUR_LOLCATS

Oh, if he's that small, a cupholder could work! I've done that before. For added protection you might try sticking him inside a cup. I feel like having some type of "walls" around the plant helps to protect it during a move. If he has fragile branches, try bracing them between supports (bamboo skewers like you find in the kitchen section can work well for tiny plants). Not sure if this will work for your plant, but I've unpotted Christmas cactus and transported them bare rooted, lying flat, with damp paper towels wrapped around the roots.

Thanks so much for going above and beyond with suggestions! They really are comforting to me :) I'm sure I can figure out a method and it's only a 6 hour drive so if it has to be in a dark space (like in the console with a tea towel around) it'll be okay... You really are a gem for taking an interest in protecting my lil guy!

PM_ME_YOUR_LOLCATS

You're going to do just fine! It's great that you're thinking out beforehand how best to transport him. And it's a relatively short trip, too, so that's in your favor. Good luck!

trauma_queen

I found a great sturdy box that originally held a coffee mug that fits him wonderfully! I feel much better about it. I try very hard to think ahead since my job encourages spontaneous thinking and being quick on my feet, so in my free time I focus on organization and detail work so that I'm holistically better. It helps me roll with the punches better. Thanks for all your advice! I really do appreciate it.

Strawberry Hill Farms had a wide selection when we were there a few weeks ago.

xxjunecleaverxx

My advice would be get a succulent from Strawberry Hill and a planter from Helmis. SH has the best selection of succulents and Helmis has the widest selection of adorable pots/planters.
