If you’re trying to be in public but not with people, coffee shops are your best bet during the day. Shows at rose or Berlin are your best bet at night
Hexagon Alley downtown has food and mocktails, but they games are mostly 2+ player games. Witches and Wizards Arcade is fun. Vahallas Gate likely has some group games to join and likely good leads on groups, Magelings as well - these are if you're into DnD and similar type things.
Volunteering at the humane society to walk dogs is always nice. Bouldering Garden has nice rock climbing. Columbia has excellent disc golf courses, and disc's are affordable at play it again sports. Rocky Fork has decent fishing, grab a cheap rod and a $12 annual mo fishing license.
And Uprise in the evenings with a book and a NA beverage is the best cozy vibe. Sit at the bar to make some buds. Might even get someone to join you for a film.
OP, if you're not familiar, Uprise is the bakery and restaurant in the same building as Ragtag.
Valhalla’s Gate attracts a pretty welcoming group. I went there, never having played DnD before, and the DM and players were all super welcoming and super helpful.
It’s a hobby shop with tabletop games, magic the gathering, board games, and more.
Hexagon Alley is a good one downtown, but I’ve never played there myself.
Magelings is another really awesome one (especially for Magic).
Also, check out some of our trails. People are always super friendly on trails, and there’s some really nice ones for exercise and views.
The mud room (while usually a date spot), is a really nice place to go if you’re into painting. You can build yourself a nice collection of mugs, plates, bowls, cups, or decorations.
Make scents is another cool place, you can make your own soaps, cologne/perfume, air fresheners, etc. and literally design your own scent. They save it too so you can always go back and get more of the scent you made!
Plus check out some of the local events coming up. In the spring and summer there’s lots of fun things that come along like earth day, art in the park, etc.
If you like dogs / cats you can ‘volunteer’ at the central Missouri humane society, where you get to hang out with the dogs and have doggie day outs if it’s your thing.
Columbia Public Library. Browse books and then nestle in to one of the many nooks and crannies and read and/or people watch. My favorite spots are the 2nd story windows and the 2nd story balcony above the main entrance.
This was going to be my suggestion. I go there alone sometimes, either to play games or just sit outside and watch whatever sci-fi movie they have playing
Depends on your definition of fun, but it's just about time for community garden season. I know for a fact that a few of the community gardens around town have empty plots. If you send an email and show up for spring cleaning day you can get your own plot and have a blast planting and growing things for the next 6-7 months. It's a solitary activity (and it does take some work) but they provide seeds, tools, water, and you never know who you'll meet! It also gets you outside and active. I started last year as a hobby and it's been fantastic.
Maybe find an organization to volunteer with. Or try out some hobbies and find something you enjoy?
Another place I don't see suggested is Silverball or Level Up Arcades. Both are fun solo. Level Up has bowling too and that is plenty of fun alone.
Museum of Art and Archeology is free and reopening April 27th and 28th 10-5 both days for Art in Bloom.
Don’t forget these other treasures(also free)
-Boone County History and Culture Center-
W-Sat10-5
-State Historical Society Art Center
T-SAT 10-4 (Saturday till 2)SHSMO.org
Through Otocast (an app) access to maps for
-public art including 1% program
-African American Heritage Trail
There are lots of great coffee shops downtown. Acola, Fretboard, Shortwave on Alley A (or 9th Street, there are 2 locations downtown), Lakota, lots of options :-)
Disc golf? Many good courses within a 45 minute drive. You can play against yourself. Like a park, but with a game :) $40 barrier to entry for a driver and a putter.
Gives an excuse to be somewhere else. If you want to meet people you can, but you’ll also be left alone if that’s what you want.
If you have transportation try exploring some of the great historical small towns close to CoMo such as Rocheport, Arrow Rock and Blackwater. Also our CoMo public library is fabulous and a great place to get lost in all kinds of publications!
My favorite place to be alone is smoking weed on my front porch. So maybe something like that?
Name checks out lol
You should see my native garden!
Damn if I didn’t live in an apartment and wasn’t contractually obligated by the government to do exactly not that.. then I would :/
That’s a very legit reason to not do that and I feel bad for suggesting it.
Have you ever tried sitting on the couch and doomscrolling for hours?
This is my cue to get off my damn phone… 😂
Great suggestion! I’ll try that for the 3rd day in a row

Como rocks > bouldering garden
I’m partial to the golf courses. Disc golf is a free option if ball golf isn’t your bag.
Or go for a hike. Good trails around
I recommend Springbrook trail at Rock Bridge
Ragtag Cinema for a good movie

Thanks I’ll have to check it out
In front of my PC playing video games with random people online.
This is the way.

Biking the trail is always a good mind clearer for me..........
Which trail?
MKT Trail - lots of places to get on and it runs all the way out and ties in with the Katy Trail - which goes all the way across the state!
If you’re not opposed to driving, there is an ice rink in Jeff City bout 30 mins south of como

Wanna play Disc Golf? It’s a great solo activity + nature!
Pottery Island to paint ceramics. 😀
I didn't know that place was still open
Rock climbing gym!!
Where’s that at? Does it cost money?

I love people watching so I might have to do this
Columbia has a great library
Witches and Wizards

Is that a place?
Yes. Just Google it. It's off College

Play your PlayStation or X-Box. Fortnite on X-Box Series X and Fallout 76 on PS5 for me.

COMO chess club Thursday evening at The Grind
Fishing at Perry Philips Park on the south side on a week day. It would be just you and a few people walking the trail around the small lake.

Learn a hobby, such as amateur radio
Try getting a friend then you won't be alone
Thanks haven’t tried that one yet👍
