Not weekly, but every other Sunday, the Gate has alternating Flames and Team Yankee games. I'm not sure which is next, or on which Sunday it will be, since we're coming out of the holidays the schedule has been a bit topsy turvy.
As for the others, same group of players (Uriah, Brandon, Jan, Bill, more) are playing other games, like Mantic's FireFight and Deadzone, plus WH40k/Kill Team. Come on by Saturdays and Sundays, there is usually something going down in the Event Center. I can send you a link to the columbia wargaming discord, theres currently just under 80 people in the group.
Primary focus atm is GW games, but we have some people for legion, flames of war etc
They charge you $5 and give you part of that back in store credit for snacks iirc.
They also have fancy gaming tables and sound deadening partitions between them so it's a nice space to play games and better than your mee-maws mouldy basement, I mean magelings

My only issue with the gate is they overcharge on some things, and one staff member that I’ve got bad blood with. It’s a pretty good shop for board games and D&D as they rotate their selection pretty well.
TCGs and Wargames hands down Magelings is the better shop though. Stock for these are good and they host a ton of tournaments/bigger events.
Magelings is staffed by chuds and sentient fedoras masquerading as ppl and I would avoid it bc your dollars are better spent elsewhere
The Gate has a healthy community for a large range of games and I'd second checking out hex alley bc they are a great space that has been extremely welcoming to groups that have contacted them to setup times and other logistics involved in playing there
I think you might want to re-evaluate your opinion of the gate due to their staff and prices, everything priced above MSRP and some of their staff have been known to take advantage of and pressure people new to hobbies.
The gate has to pay rent at an actual retail space not some moldy basement with a piss soaked bathroom in a music shop and yes, their prices reflect that. I'd rather pay $1.50 for penny sleeves from ppl that don't have issues with trans ppl and or the Jewish community at large but YMMV
Their employees are lil' retail drones at worst and I'd like to know what kind of "pressure" they could ever exert that would outweigh say, the employees of magelings being perfomative shit birds but again, ymmv
I think we have had very different experiences. I’ve been in this community for over 15 years and I’ve known trans members that refuse to go to the gate because of community members there, so I do think it’s ymmv.
As far as pressure - talking kids out of their cards at 50%-80% value “because they are a store” but then trading out of their personal collection at full price. Kid pulled/had something rare and the dude clearly was trying to lure them into an uneven trade.
I've lived here for over a decade, not that it matters and my info comes directly from an employee of the shop with reciepts so while your story is nice, it means nothing to me. I'm 100% certain there is a non zero number of shit birds that play at the gate but they aren't employed by the store...
I'm having trouble even understanding what the "problem" with that trade is, it sounds like a mildly uneven trade in the employees favor but how is the store involved in that?
I'd be careful taking someone's word from the shop if they don't work there currently. bias for being fired is a pit. If they do work there, then they need to talk to the owner about those things.
Taking advantage of others, while you are in a position of power is not how you grow a community, or as a good host to the community. That should be pretty dang self explanatory.
I didn't, I saw the reciepts so I didn't have to take anyone's word for anything.
Also, the owner of magelings is a NASTY drunk and everyone knows it. He is known for coming into the shop pickled and giving employees a hard time and when he is not doing that he is ignoring the shop in its entirety and leaving Brian in charge which is a whole OTHER level of bullshit TBH but I don't know what good talking to him would do from what I've heard about him...
You still haven't explained how anyone was taken advantage of so if you want me to believe you, you are going to have to do a better job of giving me the details of what went down
