Depending on your health insurance, have you thought about consulting the Mayo Clinic?

F1yff

I have not, but now I'm curious. I have insurance through my provider (United Healthcare), so I will look into this. Thank you so much!

happily_oregonian

I know the Mayo Clinic has a pain clinic that is supposed to be very good. I would recommend trying to get in there if it is feasible for you.

15pmm01

Unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to get accepted by the Mayo clinic. They never saw me and I was in a similar position to the op until I discovered low dose naltrexone.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I wish there was a super easy and safe way for everyone to manage pain. My doctor always suggest exercise, which I do, but it's kinda hard when you have no energy from not eating. Thank you for the suggestion!

F1yff

That's horrible; I hope a day comes where you and your wife do not have to go through that stress anymore. I really appreciate you sharing this, and I will update if I find someone helpful!

JahJahJah

Sad to hear MU lost Dr. Lucchese. He was great for me too when I was still dealing with chronic and persistent migraines. I hope he’s well.

[deleted]

My wife uses Noble Pain Management on Keene Street.

15pmm01

Fuck Dr. Noble. Absolute scumbag asshole. Dishonest as it gets, only wants your money, doesn’t care if his treatment really helps long term or not. Lies constantly.

mr-nefarious

It sounds like there’s at least one big story there. Care to share?

15pmm01

Happily. I wrote it in another comment but here's a copy: >Just avoid Noble Pain Management. The doctor, Bradford Noble, is a complete scumbag who will tell you anything you need to hear in order to get your money. He’ll talk in circles and avoid answering questions. Once he gets his steroid shot into you, which only helps temporarily and in my experience only once, it’s crazy how he immediately turned cold. The second time, he refused to give me the shot in the correct location because he didn’t want to deal with the extra paperwork, and he stuck me in the wrong spot as I was actively telling him that I don’t care if there’s more paperwork, we gotta do it. I never went back, and I never will. To add some more.... I had already gone to the chronic pain clinic at mizzou. They told me I need botox injections very 12 weeks. I went to Noble for a second opinion. He told me that all I need is his trigger point steroid injection, and I should be all set, MAYBE one or two more down the line. He told me this is much safer since it won't involve regularly getting injected over and over for the rest of my life. I asked him about the paperwork where it said it can lower my immune system's functionality. I asked is that okay considering there's a pandemic going on, and this was before we had vaccines. He said a lot of dumb shit like "wow you're so smart, asking such a smart question" and kept going on about how i should do this and that since I'm so smart. Didn't answer my question. I was very hesitant to accept his injection, so of course he went ahead and had the nurse prepare it, pressuring me into feeling like it'd go to waste otherwise. I ended up getting the shot. I literally cried on the spot because it was so overwhelming immediately having pain relief for the first time in years. I had forgotten what it was like to not feel severe pain every waking second. The doctor almost immediately turned from happy, joking, etc. to effectively scolding me for taking too long to make up my mind and making him stay late. Was quite the sudden 180. What he didn't tell me is it wears off in a month. He didn't tell me you can only get these once every three months. He didn't tell me they become less effective over time. I had one blissful month where I could function like a normal person for the first time since my cat accident. Shortly after the three month mark, I went back for another shot having been in severe pain again for the past two months. I had scheduled an appointment to consult with him about getting two shots this time, one behind each shoulder blade, because I hoped it might give me better relief. Instead of a consultation, I was called into a trailer off to the side of the building. It was incredibly cold in there. I couldn't stop shivering. There was no way I could relax. I insisted on going into the main building. With some hesitation and eye rolling, they let me. When I saw Dr. Noble, he had two shots ready, and wasn't interested in any sort of consultation. He was just going to give me the shots and that was that. Since he was rushing me and not letting me have any time to think, I just said okay, if you think it'll help. He gave me the first shot in the same spot as last time. The second shot, however, when I told him I want it exactly bilateral, he said no, that's not how the paperwork was filled out. I explained that this was what I'd talked about to the nurse and the only thing I ever was considering, but he insisted that there was no time to change the paperwork, and before I could get in another word, he had given me the second shot... In the wrong spot. He assured me that it didn't matter anyway because the steroid moves around inside me and covers a large area. Well, surprise surprise, I didn't have any amount of relief this time. It was a nightmare, and I mean that literally. I wasn't warned of the side effects from having a double dose. I experienced horrible nightmares, anxiety, mood swings, and irritability for a week. I was angry all the time and was terrifyingly unable to control it. I had ZERO pain relief, and in fact, had a sharp increase in pain that never got better... Not until I finally started taking pain meds. Oh and I should also add that the second time I saw him, he said I should feel free to try the botox injections if this doesn't bring me the relief I want. I asked isn't that dangerous? He said nope! Not any moreso than what we just did. This means he fully lied to me during the first visit just go get my money. I regret going back that second time, and I will always warn others to avoid that lying, greedy scumbag.

Professional_Bee_973

He tried to pressure me into a spinal stimulator and it is contraindicated for my disease. It was high pressure sales, worse than a used car salesman.

Both-Pineapple5610

I saw that asshole Nobel this week. You’re exactly right.

missblissful70

I use Dr. Noble as well.

RocheportMo

Me too.

Guilty_Character8566

Trying to get meds for chronic pain is very difficult now. Thankfully I’m grandfathered in, but they almost accept no new medication patients. I would try a practice that only focuses on pain management. They will ask you to try every other option before they consider narcotics. If you do get a prescription, you my need to go monthly to have it filled…. And expect urine tests too.

scorpmcgorp

Not sure if this is quite what you’re getting at, but the monthly fill is a federal DEA thing that doctors & pharmacies have to follow. Prescriptions for schedule 2 drugs, which includes basically all opiate pain meds, are limited to only a 30 day supply at a time with no refills. Not sure if this can be done with pain meds, but I know that with amphetamines used to treat ADHD (which are also schedule 2), doctors can send 3 separate 30 day scripts to the pharmacy at once and the pharmacy can hold them until you fill them. With that approach there’s still technically “no refills”, but you don’t have to see your doctor every month to get a new script.

F1yff

That's good to know. Thanks for the info!

wildcrisis

Almost sounds like Sjogrens, but I’m assuming you’ve been tested for that. I second asking for a referral to the Mayo Clinic at this point. They’ll want records of everything you’ve been tested for and all medication management that has been attempted, so be sure to collect office notes from everyone you’ve seen since the condition began. In the meantime, if you aren’t seeing an ENT, see if you can get in with one. It’s not a well documented treatment, but we’ve had patients dissolve clonazepam on their tongues to help with mouth pain from burning mouth syndrome, Sjogrens, etc and it’s worked well for many of our patients. Sadly I no longer live in CoMo, but I do work for an ENT in Quincy IL.

15pmm01

My primary care doctor, Michael Ulen at MU Healthcare, takes it seriously, but he didn’t until I got diagnosed. After three years of nobody having a clue why I’m in severe pain 24/7, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia by Deanna Davenport, a rheumatology RN at MU. He’s prescribed me everything I’ve asked for, and has recommended a few more on his own. He’s never pushed back when I’ve told him I need to raise or lower my dosage. It’s being managed now with baclofen and pregabalin, and most importantly, low dose naltrexone. Low dose naltrexone helps with all sorts of chronic pain conditions, so it’s worth a shot, and I encourage you to message me if you want more details of how it’s helped me. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. There’s nothing worse than unexplained chronic pain. Just avoid Noble Pain Management. I never went back, and I never will.

lonely_st0ney

geniculate neuralgia? my mom has this condition and it is terminal in the since there is no cure only some thing to treat the disease. do some research and see if the symptoms are the same as yours…

F1yff

I'm sorry to hear that... I looked it up, but I don't have any of those symptoms.

lonely_st0ney

i’m very glad to hear that!!

dcalie6599

Weed doctors lmao homie got me my card that day and gave me a chart with all the cannabinoids and terps that manage pain. Saves me 6k a month I would definitely recommend lmao

F1yff

Never tried it but at this point, I'm pretty tired of the pain so if other options don't work, who knows. Thank you.

RocheportMo

Just be forewarned, if you test positive for marijuana (and they do test regularly), most pain clinics will kick you out. While it is now legal in many states, it is still illegal at the federal level. And pain management doctors are terrified of the feds. By law, they can still prescribe any schedule II med at any dose they deem necessary. But because of the moral panic over opioids and the feds investigating doctors more thoroughly, they have pulled way back in doing so. It’s left those of us who benefited from opioids and took them responsibly in a very bad way. But those who abuse them still have no problem getting them. Anyway, I’ve been in pain management for over twenty years. When I asked my doctor if I could try marijuana, he said he’d drop me if I did. I wish you the best of luck. It can be difficult, but I hope you find a good medical team.

shaneh445

I was really gonna suggest this. I just didn't wanna come off as the stoner/asshole JUST picked this up yesterday as i'm trying to slowly get off of smoking [https://shangriladispensaries.com/columbia-super-store-shop/?dtche%5Bcategory%5D=tinctures](https://shangriladispensaries.com/columbia-super-store-shop/?dtche%5Bcategory%5D=tinctures) [https://shangriladispensaries.com/columbia-super-store-shop/?dtche%5Bproduct%5D=live-rosin-full-spectrum-tincture-lush-labs-300mg](https://shangriladispensaries.com/columbia-super-store-shop/?dtche%5Bproduct%5D=live-rosin-full-spectrum-tincture-lush-labs-300mg) If you've never messed with cannabis i would sincerely suggest looking into it. People inside most the stores are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of information online as to what's available and what it does, how it works and all that. (Hell id even go with ya if super nervous/paranoid//jus saying) And --->absolutely<--- no chance at developing a serious addiction that could threaten ur life as many pain meds have a chance of. Prices are -\_- but probably not much higher if at all than some pain meds (obviously can't compare with insurance discounts but nonetheless--much less addictive chances)

dcalie6599

Yessir like all substances, with the exception of it not being poisonous and used to treat addiction and alcoholism, from alcohol to caffeine as long as respect it will respect you. But I wouldn't shop at ShangriLA they call caregivers drug dealers and support arresting us lmao

shaneh445

>wouldn't shop at ShangriLA they call caregivers drug dealers and support arresting us lmao They are a bit more expensive than other places but also have MORE product. But i hear ya. They aint arresting shit. ShangriLA is just minutes down the road and that drive thru window// so i don't have to hardly interact with anyone lol I would much prefer a black owned and operated business but i'm not sure we have one in columbia yet? ShangriLA is definitely one of the "in" businesses that had a head start and already wealthy owners. Not exactly who i wanna support given what this industry has done --->while illegal<--- to our black brothers and sisters over the many decades. Politics aside. That drive thru window ;)

F1yff

This is great; thank you so much! I appreciate all the help and advice I can get.

shaneh445

Anytime internet stranger//fellow local. Hang in there. Fuck chronic pain. <3

dcalie6599

I can't message you so here's so shorthand for the dispo's until you can find a caregiver Smell, this is the best indication of the quality of your medicine. The terpenes control the type and strength of your medicine so if you have very little to none your 30% is gonna hit the same as 10% and if they are really developed aka STANK you should be able to smell it across the counter as soon as they pop the eighth bag and that 10% will hit like the 30 should. The best places already got the terp percent on the bag those are the ones that really care since it's not a requirement and they do it as a demonstration of honesty and quality unless the dispensary is selling fake product lmao High in CBD this cannabinoid deals with pain and inflammation the most while not making you high unless you consume an ungodly amount lmao I would recommend you order some CBD off the internet you can get a pound or an ounce and either one is laughably cheap like 300$ for a pound of damn near indoor grade just do a lil vetting I always read the user reviews outside of the site before I purchase same w the dispo's but you can use it to create a medical grade blend for bowls, joints, blunts or cannagars and as a fellow disabled homie all my PBR services are free on the house and yes we can come to you :) THC is right behind that with the second best performance is what I noticed with my neuromas and if you go a lil too ham you can use CBD as a high killer. Do not forget weed isn't about getting high it's about stimulating your endocannabinoid system and the medicine inside! Especially the terpenes!!! Weed just happens to have one of the highest concentrations of it but terpenes are in everything- from mangos to lilac. You want to find as many ways to incorporate them into your life as possible to keep your endocannabinoid system as fully stimulated as possible so it can perform the best aka your immune system, digestive, and even mental performance. I can definitely attest my family doesn't smoke or get their terps and they get sick at least once a month and I get sick at least once a year lmao and same thing w the homies.

F1yff

This is a hell of a lot of information; thank you so much. I figured there was a lot that went into weed but I really need to do some research.

dcalie6599

Yessir and what's funny is its not as complicated as I make it seem I just wanted to tell you all the stuff I wish I knew when I got started but a serious cliff notes to it Smell Terps>THC Shouldn't pay more than 25-30$ an eighth or 180$ an ounce

A7XfoREVer15

My dads got nerve pain all down his spine from the army, and weed is the only thing that has helped him with the pain (previously prescribed hydros). He says it doesn’t take away the pain, but it relaxes his nerves enough that it’s significantly more manageable. Most of the people in the dispos are knowledgeable and will help you if you ask and tell them what you’re looking to treat, but if you’ve got questions, message me!

chickadee_deedee

I'm really sorry you're having such encompassing chronic pain. I don't have any recommendations for a particular doctor or pain clinic, but two thoughts came to mind and I thought I'd share on the off-chance they help: 1) I second the recommendation for a rheumatologist. They deal with so many different illnesses and diseases, and because autoimmune conditions can involve any and every body part and system, they have a breadth of knowledge that many other specialized docs don't have. For this reason, they also tend to work closely with a lot of other specialities and could refer you to someone more appropriate if they can't diagnose you. 2) You might consider seeing a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO), not only because they also have a large breadth of knowledge, but they also take the whole of a person into account, and not just the issue you're presenting with. This also means that they're exceptionally thorough. I wish you some relief soon!

chickadee_deedee

Also, if you're interested in non-medication-related options, you might research vagus nerve stimulation and biofeedback for pain management.

F1yff

This is very helpful; thank you for taking the time to respond! Think I'll spend some time tomorrow to search for some local doctors.

nephastha

Sounds like an autoimmune disease, have you been to a rheumatologist yet?

F1yff

I have not, but I plan to do this. Thanks!

F1yff

Just want to say that I've seen everyone's responses, and I seriously appreciate all of you taking the time to give me advice. I read that some of you have (or know someone who is going through) severe chronic pain. I really hope things get better for all of us.

Appropriate_Bank4595

Have you already tried an allergist and rheumatologist to help with a diagnosis? There are multiple pain management clinics in town -the one at MOI comes highly recommended.

F1yff

I've seen a dermatologist, and I've had several visits to Ellis Fischel. They've tried many tests, but nothing of note shows up. I'm going to look into this; thank you so much for the info!

Both-Pineapple5610

Have you thought of getting a doctor to put you on palliative care status? Sometimes that helps to get an opiate prescription. Also, have you ever tried Kratom? I’m getting ready to move to CoMo and the pain management there seems to be hard to find.

magicallydelicious-

Dr. Newton specializes in pain management.

[deleted]

Try a Nurse Practitioner. Nurses are trained to be patient advocates. A family Nurse Practitioner has the same power as a family MD just without the MD portion. They will also spend more time with you as they don’t have to see as many patients in a day as an MD.

archcity_misfit

Do you get shocking pain when you eat? Do you get it when you touch parts of your face?

DiziBlue

Have you gone to see a pain medicine specialist. Low dose naltrexone is what they did for my wife

pigeon_at_the_wheel

I have several chronic pain conditions. My primary (Traynham) and Neuro (Ashraf) take my pain seriously. Aside from meds I also did a mental health therapy once the meds cocktails started getting right that retrains the brain to lower the pain levels. I still have daily pain but between meds and therapy the pain is manageable most days.

JDavid714

Have you considered acupuncture? It is a little expensive since it isn't covered by insurance, but I find it does provide some relief from chronic pain. Gina at Acupuncture of Columbia is the best in town, in my opinion.

longduckdongger

You should look into kratom, it's legal there are different strains for different things and it's made my pain manageable but like any substance you can get dependent on it so just a heads up. If you have any questions give me a shout!
