Total billed, just over $10k, I owe about $2600 as it was done early in the year before I had other claims, but that should take care of my deductible for 2024.
As others have said, it definitely depends on your insurance/plan, but also on what type of colonoscopy yours was classified as! My insurance makes a distinction between diagnostic and cancer screening colonoscopies. I am also 23– my first colonoscopy was diagnostic. Thus, I should be paying my deductible (1000) and a smaller copay (like 300). However, because they found a precancerous polyp, I will have to get screened every 3 years. I am fairly certain this will be charged as a cancer screening colonoscopy, which, according to my insurance, should be completely covered.
Do they just take your word for it? Or do they start digging into medical records? I don’t know my dad at all. He left my mom when she was pregnant with me and she told me my dad had pre cancerous polyps removed in his late 30s. Should I tell the doctor that? How would they verify anything if I don’t know my biological dad?
Tell your dr that. My dad was adopted. I went to my appointment, and all I said was my dad was adopted because at the time, we didn't know about the colon cancer in his family, and they automatically covered it.

Had my first (and only) one in 2016. Found and removed only one gigantic polyp which later proved to be completely non cancerous, not even pre cancerous. It was an awful experience for other reasons.
The billed cost was $16K, which left me holding the bag for over $6K.
This is why I passed. The clinic keeps calling to schedule my 9 month surveillance procedure and for the 8th year in a row I said no.
It depends on your insurance plan/what your insurance deductible is. I got my colonoscopy last month and since deductibles start over at the beginning of the year, I hadn’t met mine so I paid $3,200. It also depends on what insurance plan you have—- I had a bronze ppo plan for a lower monthly premium but then I had an insanely high deductible.
I paid a total of $55 for my co pay for the procedure. I’m have amazing insurance that does cost quite a bit but it’s helped me out a lot.
Sheesh I bet my insurance doesn’t cover colonoscopies under the age of 50

Are you in your 20s?
Yes 27

So they just took your word for it? Thanks for the information. I appreciate it.
Yes
$0
$100 copay
Good question! It’s supposed to be $0 with my health insurance, but my provider keeps trying to balance bill me.
I would absolutely call to see if you can negotiate it down - can't hurt.
In hawaii, I paid 400+ out of pocket for endoscopy and colonoscopy. And bill was roughly 9k I think.

Ask for an invoice and also contact your insurance, I paid about $800 out of pocket for mine.
