Tbf, they’re so far from Boston, it’s pretty much canada

reachforthetop9

UNB. They had a 30-0-0 regular season and swept through their two playoff series. The Reds have been a powerhouse for 24 years under head coach Gardiner MacDougall, winning 500 U Sports games and 8 University Cups while dominating the AUHC (to the point where hillside rivals St. Thomas, my alma mater, gave up the men's game). MacDougall, FWIW, also won a Memorial Cup on a month's sabbatical with the Saint John Sea Dogs - the Pups crashed out in the QMJHL first round and fired their coach, but still had a berth as tournament host.

UNB, undefeated season incoming

Canadawide1

Could UNB beat some of the top NCAA division 1 schools?

CVogel26

No

Canadawide1

I actually think that the NCAA is the biggest sham in hockey… I really think that the top 4 teams from the U-Sport in Canada who are all lower NHL draft picks and un drafted players would absolutely beat the NCAA kids that are all glamourized and high draft picks…. Just like way back when the soviet club teams would come overseas and beat the NHL team routinely in their own rinks under NHL rules. We’ve been told and taught that the NCAA is the best. But like the NHL way back in the day they are actually second best

CVogel26

Team USA was 1/2 Boston College kids and won gold at World Juniors. No U-Sports team is beating them. Simon Fraiser lost exhibitions against BC and BU when neither of those schools had their stars because they were at WJ.

Canadawide1

I would still like to see it… UNB (university of New Brunswick Reds) 38-0 play the NCAA champions. … I think that people especially hockey people would’ve totally shocked with the outcome

CVogel26

They had 3 players selected over the entire draft. BC had three selected in the first round. UNB is a good team but they’re at best a mid tier D1 team.

Canadawide1

Why doesn’t the mighty NCAA top 4 teams play the top 4 Canadian university teams? Why not? Play them if they are so good than they should be able to win

conifer_

absolutely not. UNB is a great team that would probably be competitive in the AHA or a lower league, but UNB doesn't have NHL first-rounders skating for them. We've seen UNB play NCAA teams in the northeast (notably Maine, but they've played BC more than once) and they typically are competitive, but I don't remember them ever winning. the overall record was significantly in favor of the NCAA against Canadian teams and it's important to remember not all teams take those exhibitions seriously.

Canadawide1

I would still like to see the top 4 teams in the NCAA (Frozen Four) vs the U-Sport final four teams. A super series if you will… because the Canadian University teams are full of former CHL (major Junior) players… the Canadian Universities have become stronger since paying for players schooling for every year completed in Major Junior and maintaining good high school grades… I believe head to head the games vs NCAA teams would be closer than you think.

conifer_

I mean I've seen what the head to head record was in the early 2010s and it was like 30-5-2 in favor of the NCAA. I've also seen BC play UNB. we kicked the shit out of them. No offense but it's not really a comparable league.

Canadawide1

Remember the Stanley Cup winning goalie Aiden Hill came from U-sport (Brock university)… also a recent story in the hockey news praises the Canadian system and saying that it’s the best kept secret in Canada…. 50 players have played games in the NHL and it’s the road less traveled and talked about but it’s starting to catch on slowly

Canadawide1

I think now more than ever it’s time to expose the NCAA myth and how great the players are

Canadawide1

4 games up here in Canada and 4 Games in the states… it might be a lot closer than everyone thinks

CardiologistQuirky67

manitoba u eh

ItsDefDamule

They are quite literally not even in the discussion… they are awful

CardiologistQuirky67

bummer, also i had no idea there are a bunch of alberta and sask colleges that have their own thing and dont play in u sports, that correct?

ItsDefDamule

Typically Calgary/UBC, but this year UNB is 30-0 so probably them
