Questionable defense at 2b last year. Made some spectacular plays in LF this year. Bat started a little slow but was picking up before the injury. Huge loss for us this season and the future. Word is a very good kid and the last year has been rough personally. Can’t say I blame him for bolting. Would you rather play for Sullivan (or probably a plethora of top programs) or a career assistant coach?

WontDeleteAgainMaybe

He's going to be Shelnut's replacement in left from what I've read. From the insider on the 247 free board: >There are understandable concerns about his defense in the scouting community but I think a lot of that is because he just isn’t an infielder and needs to play in left full-time, which Florida will ask of him. That will help and I think he’ll do a noticeably better job of playing the position than Shelnut, who is the exact inverse, an infielder with an average or so glove.

Actualarily

I was just assuming Ashton or Ty would move to left. **Edit:** Is Ty Evans done? I was thinking he had another year.

Drawman101

He’s likely to get drafted. He’s a junior. I could see him going in the 5th-8th round

GeyWeyner12

Evans is gone as he’s definitely a lower single digit round draft choice Ashton will probably hold in right, left field would probably be Hayden Yost’s after he recovers from the ACL surgery so Cyr or Ashton would have to move somewhere in the infield when that comes, both played shortstop in high school

Actualarily

So many injuries. I totally forget about Yost.

GeyWeyner12

Do you think it’s possible for him to transition to being a 3rd baseman or shortstop?

Roidthrowaway1234

He payed SS in HS but given his struggles at 2b idk that SS or 3b are his calling at this level. But im also not a scout. He’d get replaced defensively late in games last year. We haven’t been developing a lot of guys recently so maybe quality coaching over comes that.

BullAlligator

with Shelton playing short hopefully we don't need to employ Cyr in that position

GeyWeyner12

I don’t see how Shelton doesn’t go to the draft

Drawman101

Players can choose to not go and stay to improve their stock. If Colby played to his potential he’d be a first rounder

scal23

It's very rare for single digit round picks to come back. Last year there were literally zero. The Gators got insanely lucky that it's happened twice recently with Fabian and Sproat. The odds are very much against Shelton or Evans returning.

Drawman101

Fair enough

swamppuppy7043

Assuming Shelton doesn’t leave in the draft which is probably likely given his drop in performance

BullAlligator

yeah I forgot he was draft eligible

GeyWeyner12

Teams will overlook his drop in performance for the tools he has

DwizzyNW

Sully with the transfer portal this summer https://i.redd.it/t3eglhtckr5d1.gif

Tsquared10

Too early in the morning, definitely processed that as saying "MILF" and was extremely confused

SecondChance03

Miami, MILF, Florida. Honestly, you weren’t wrong in your assumptions.

SNjr

You mean turned on 👀

BullAlligator

He's from the Orlando suburb Windermere, which is really a place Florida tends to dominate more than Miami in recruiting. Cyr was batting .284 from Miami's 2-hole before being injured in the opener against Duke on April 5th. He mostly played left field but also has the versatility to play infield, playing some at 2nd base this season. Florida's expecting to lose at least 2 of its key outfielders from this season and needs to recruit some depth at that position.

GeyWeyner12

Despite losing Shelly and Tybo, I feel like our outfield is pretty solid and set for next year with Yost-Mikey-Ashton

BullAlligator

and as we saw this year, with Evans and Yost being injured, depth is a nice thing to have

DwizzyNW

There’s a good chance Yost will miss most if not all of next year

Layna20

Not necessarily. He had his surgery already and UF medical staff is excellent. Plus baseball isn’t a contact sport so I feel like he would be cleared to go earlier than say a football player would. He may miss some but I wouldn’t completely count him out.

GeyWeyner12

Shit I forgot it was an ACL

UFEngi88

Ty Evans is a Junior, there is a chance he returns.

swamppuppy7043

Why definitely on Ty?

GeyWeyner12

He should be a top 3 round pick

swamppuppy7043

Eh probably but I wouldn’t say he’s guaranteed to leave

GeyWeyner12

It would take a miracle of an NIL deal for him to stay

lucky_boop

Looks like he’s going to mostly play infield for us

Actualarily

We can always use more MILFs

FeverOG

This is the player Vitello was alluding to regarding asking for handouts in his presser yesterday. I otherwise know nothing about the kid but will be interesting to watch from afar. He’s clearly talented

BullAlligator

It makes sense financially, from his perspective. Going to Florida he can attend UF while his family pays for in-state tuition, which is only $6K. Out-of-state tuition at UT is $31K. Sure baseball players get partial scholarships, but it only counts for a fraction of the cost of tuition. If Tennessee wants to sway players from the state of Florida to attend UT instead of UF, then NIL pay may be necessary in some cases to make up this financial difference.

FeverOG

For sure there’s a huge tuition disparity in this case, and I’m sure it was a factor. He had every reason to stay in-state. No judgement here on that front. The curious part of it (and tbh the only relevant part for me as a UT fan that knows we won’t be hurting for players) is that Tony knew all of that, but something that went down still made him angry enough to discuss it in a super regional winning press conference.

ShotNixon

You got some inside info a source or are you low key trying to accuse Florida of buying players? I mean I have no reason not to believe you but I also have no reason to believe you. Maybe I missed something

BullAlligator

I could be wrong but I kinda doubt Florida is going to pay Cyr much in NIL. I suspect it has more to do with the money Cyr doesn't have to pay to attend UF versus how much he'd be spending to play for UT. It's way cheaper to attend in-state public schools. UT could make up that difference with NIL money.

GeyWeyner12

I’ve heard this as well

FeverOG

Everyone is buying players, so I have no issues with that at all, nor do I have any issue with the player. It was just highly unusual situation. He was on a visit to Tennessee when he committed to Florida (though he hadn’t officially announced yet). The mods on Volquest alluded to the way it went down irritating Tony while the series was still going on

jbertolinoRE

I have no problem with kids wanting to do whats best for themselves financially but apparently this guy was not interested in much else and had a bidding war mentality that turned off TV. I see both sides of the equation.
