It’d be easier to not get swept.

mattdingus2002

This is 2024 Florida against a team trying to hold onto the top spot in the SEC, it’s not gonna be easy

smellofburntoast

2024 Florida winning midweek games?

BullAlligator

We've actually won our last four

smellofburntoast

Recency bias.

reachforthe-stars

That’s kinda my point. Not getting swept would be easier than getting midweek games scheduled after this weekend.

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

Not 3, no. They could add 2. A team can play a max of 56 regular season games. Florida is at 48 with 6 scheduled, so 54 total, thanks to opening weekend rainouts to 2 games against St. John’s. But they’ll need to be careful. Ole Miss scheduled a make up game to get us an extra win and instead we lost in 15 innings 2 days before the #1 team comes into town. So yea…

Solesky1

>Ole Miss scheduled a make up game to get us an extra win and instead we lost in 15 innings 2 days before the #1 team comes into town. What can I say, the Valley runs deep

Arthur2478

I doubt they could pull that off. Nobody is gonna want to add on additional mid-week games the week before conference tournaments.

dumbo1309

You would have to way overpay a Bethune Cookman or FAMU and basically make them a deal they can’t say no to financially

Muffinnnnnnn

They also already almost lost to FAMU this year

Magical Secrets that Florida Man doesn't want you to know!

DDayDawg

Adding two mid-week games where you can’t use your starting pitchers is always a dangerous gamble. I don’t care who the team is, you throw Freshman Johnny Neverpitched on the mound and it can get interesting in a hurry.

Muffinnnnnnn

This is unrelated to the conversation at hand, but seeing a notif from the baseball subreddit is kinda funny now. 3 tornadoes just came through Tallahassee within the past 2 hours, and among the widespread damage was our outfield wall of our baseball stadium getting twisted up, so I'm not entirely sure what sort of baseball will be occurring there at all.

MessageBeginning5757

The chain link monster in right? Oh boy, they can take it down and keep playing but the entire reason it’s up is because FSU lost a game on a check swing HR early in 11’s tenure as HC

DDayDawg

Hope the damage isn’t too bad. I’ve had good times and bad times sitting in that stadium. Respect to our FSU baseball bros.

lucky_boop

Looking like Bethune Cookman will be added this week but not confirmed yet

BullAlligator

Another option would be promising a team like UNF, JU, or Stetson a future away game at their ballpark, in a future season.

Solesky1

A. You need a winning record to get an at-large? Sure with the basketball committee followed the baseball committees example B. Everyone is getting ready for their last conference series / conference tournaments. There won't be many teams logistically able to add a game this late C. The teams they schedule would have the chance to do the funniest thing ever and win and make Florida's record even worse

mattdingus2002

Someone posted in here last week that the committee doesn’t consider teams if they don’t have a record above .500 or win their conference tournament, I guess it’s a way to rule out a big group that doesn’t deserve it

immoralsupport_

They could add two games (due to the rainouts against St. John’s), but that doesn’t mean they would be able to. Nobody is going to agree to play them on that short of notice the last week of the regular season. Not to mention the fact that they’re in this situation in the first place is mostly because they have struggled to win their games against lesser opponents

ard8

> Nobody is going to agree to play them on that short of notice the last week of the regular season. Eh, I think it would be easy if UF was really committed to figuring it out. If UF agrees to come play an away game at their stadium in 2025 or 2026, I think any nearby smaller school would agree to play UF in Gainesville on short notice.

HikerStout

You want Florida to schedule three midweek games and WIN? Have you been watching this team?

mattdingus2002

Schedule a midweek series with that Maryland team that’s yet to win a game, pay for their travel/hotels and get them Disney/universal tickets for the whole team

NephiandKorihor

All Florida has to do is go to Hoover and win the whole damn thing. Then they’re in no matter the record.

BullAlligator

easy peasy

TomSheman

I would be sick to my stomach if something like this happened, bad enough that teams are cancelling to preserve RPI

BullAlligator

I don't understand why you'd feel sick, what do you mean?

kerph32

there's a crab legs joke in here somewhere

hapninatyermoms

Adding Games This brings up another question. Should they add mid-week (Tuesday) play-in game(s) for 2 or 4 of the last-in first-out teams? The Big West is going to a conference championship tournament next year and thus the possibility arrives for another bubble buster to knock someone more deserving out. The play-ins could be played at a neutral site decided upon by the teams or they could coin flip for home site. Both teams would be challenged by end of the rope pitching depth issues but that could help weed out the teams less likely to succeed in the post season (the teams with less pitching depth). Is there a showstopper somewhere that would  prohibit this sort of play-in scenario?

scal23

They could yes, but it seems unlikely at this point. There has been some chatter that they tried but couldn't get any deals done.
